We end Book to Screen April Movie with a film that's more an experience and less a straightforward narrative that not only challenges the audience to think about the American Dream but also how it would feel to go into the depths of a heavy drug binge, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Author Andrew J. Rausch stops by to talk all about Hunter S. Thompson, his effect on both of their lives, and what Doctor Gonzo really stands for.Starring Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro, the film chronicles the adventures of Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo as they embark upon a drug-fueled odyssey through the surreal wonderland that was '70s Las Vegas. Along the way they encounter some truly one of a kind characters and scenarios that could only come from the mind of Hunter S. Thompson and Terry Gilliam combined. For more episodes of the Kulturecast along with many more podcasts that are guaranteed to be your new favorite audio obsession, check out Weirding Way Media at weirdingwaymedia.com.

We can't live like every day is a vacation – we'd probably die (and we'd definitely blow through our savings). So most of our days on the road are like real life, with a vacation thrown in here and there. Back in more optimistic times, we had planned to spend my 40th birthday in Vegas. But then things went weird again. What was it like in Vegas in September, 2021? We'll tell you what we saw. 1:26 - Why Vegas? 4:16 - Checking in like Raoul Duke 7:57 - How things felt both the same and different 17:36 - All the ways Nevada is an underrated state 20:18 - Camping around Vegas Link to the wave speech from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1074-strange-memories-on-this-nervous-night-in-las-vegas-five This episode was written, recorded, edited, and produced by Lisa McNamara, with additional recording and editing by Paul Olson.

Marc and Luke take a look at the pitch centered around journalist and cultural icon, Hunter S. Thompson. Following the arc of the pitch, Marc and Luke take a look at a very interesting period in Thompson's career and life."We know the Hunter S Thompson of lore, the hard drinking, gun shooting outlaw and literary genius holed up in his Colorado ranch. Who we don't know is the man that came before and the circumstances that shaped his transformation from the optimistic intrepid reporter to the rogue anti-hero known as Raoul Duke. How did he get there and who did he meet along the way until he eventually blurred the lines between his own persona and the lead character in his most famous novel Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas?"
Raoul Duke is a long-standing player of the series faithfully representing the European community for many years. He acted as a “lighthouse” for the european community. A member of the famous theot clan which was formed during THPS3- he was one of the first members to get invited at the onset of THPS4. He has never quite considered himself as a pro, but wouldn't call himself casual either. He starred in the infamous THUG1 Video: THUG - Televizzle, along with multiple other great style lines videos, improv videos and was a great Create A Park creator.
Our tenth episode in which we watch and review the 1998 film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro, and directed by Terry Gilliam, the movie is a satirical film based on the 1971 book of the same name written by Hunter S. Thompson, based on his own experiences. The loose plot follows journalist Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr. Gonzo's trip to Vegas to cover the Mint 400 race, which devolves into a drug-fuelled exploration of the city which brings to light the failure of the American Dream. We give our rating and give recommendations, then look back on our first ten episodes. Terry Gilliam's adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's acclaimed memoir is a diatribe against Nixonian America, account of a motorcycle race, drug travelogue, and only now the kind of advertisement that the Las Vegas chamber of commerce could get behind. But it's really the story of Thompson's proxy Raoul Duke's (played by Johnny Depp channeling a sort of mumbly Jim Carrey) desperately trying to channel the destructive energy of his drug buddy/lawyer Dr. Gonzo (played by Benicio del Toro channeling some kind of potbellied, vomit soaked, sweat demon.) So it's funny. If you'd like to watch ahead for next week's film, we will be discussing and reviewing Jane Campion's An Angel at My Table (1990) with special guest host's AJ and Richard of Cult Popture.
Desert raised, art school attendee ; metal head for life, 18 years strong tattoo artist, secretly invented 8 biker slang terms, and is credited for using the name Raoul Duke when checking into different hotels in the Vegas desert area. Heading off for a savage journey to Heart of the American Dream, Matt and Mark discuss the pros (Matt) and cons (Mark) of the Hunter S. Thompson adaptation Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Terry Gilliam. Matt attempts to slice and dice the absurdity, comparing such existential musings with the likes of Sartres and Camus, while Mark shrugs his shoulders at the irredeemable assholes which are Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo. It's hard to argue either way.Download: 116 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

In this episode, Alan and Joe are pleased to invite comedian and video artist Todd Graham onto the show to discuss his Overrated pick; Terry Gilliam's adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Come with us on a savage journey into Hunter S. Thompson's iconic tale of the depraved and paranoid exploits of Raoul Duke and Dr.Gonzo. Is there any sympathy for this devil of a film, or is it all one bad acid trip? We'll also discuss another film about an equally madcap pair of bohemians struggling to survive the end of the 60s. We'd love to hear what our listeners think of these films, but first you gotta buy the ticket, take a ride... and press play.
Let's get down to brass tacks. We're talking about FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS for this episode of the Nighthawks Podcast. This deceptively deep movie is from film auteur and former Python, Terry Gilliam, and stars Johnny Depp as the enigmatic Dr. Hunter S. Thompson- er... Raoul Duke. Hunter S. Thompson's book is said to have defined a generation, and within it beats the soul of a man who is looking for one last grasp at the sixties. What follows is a true-to-some-degree story about a drug addled journalist and his drug addled attorney taking on Sin City. Will Vegas be the paradise they seek, or just another money making shill? We lost Dr. Thompson 11 years ago, this month. The Nighthawks present this discussion as our humble tribute to an American folk hero.
This week we're talking about a trio of films created from the works and character of the late doctor of Gonzo Journalism, Hunter S. Thompson: Where the Buffalo Roam, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Rum Diary.
