WOKE UP THIS MORNING, GOT OURSELVES SOME MICS! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, proudly welcome a very special guest who is also our topic! Get your crew together as we celebrate the many works of the world's most beloved goomba... STEVE SCHIRRIPA!!! Arguably best known for his role as BOBBY "BACALA" BACCALIERI on the legendary HBO series, THE SOPRANOS, Steve Schirripa has an amazing story. Starting out as the entertainment director for The Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas (where he was very kind to a young, up and coming comedian named Matt Weinhold), Steve went on to carve out an extremely successful career as an actor, voice artist, host, producer, writer, and podcaster. Aside from starring in multiple seasons of THE SOPRANOS, Steve Schirripa has appeared in such varied films and TV shows as CASINO, THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER, WONDER WHEEL, JERSEY BOYS, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, UGLY BETTY, HOLLYWOOD SQUARES, NICKY DEUCE, LAW AND ORDER, GEORGE LOPEZ, KARMA'S A B*TCH, NOTHING PERSONAL, TIM & ERIC AMAZING SHOW, GREAT JOB, and many, many more! Always keeping busy, Steve continues to dazzle viewers as Detective Anthony Abetemarco on the long running CBS series, BLUE BLOODS. But what would an awesome MONSTER PARTY guest be without some super cool genre credits? Steve guest-starred in fan favorites like BLACK SCORPION, ANGEL, STARGATE ATLANTIS, and the two-part STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE story, "Storm Front." He's also lent his voice to many animated projects including, JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED, THE REPLACEMENTS, AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE, AMERICAN DAD, and the OPEN SEASON film series. If that were not enough, Mr. Schirripa definitely hit a MONSTER PARTY sweet spot by appearing in the very last episode of COLUMBO! Frickin' COLUMBO people!!! THIS VALENTINE'S DAY, DON'T CELEBRATE IT WITH A MASSACRE, BUT WITH A HEART-SHAPED BOX OF STEVE SCHIRRIPA. AND TRADE IN THE "BLING" FOR SOME "BADA-BING"!

Terry Gilliam has been a very “confusing” director. His films are sometimes called inaccessible. Whether it is TIME BANDITS (1981), BRAZIL (1985), or FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS (1998), his work is very distinct. In 1995, his film 12 MONKEYS did have his various traits and also was a well received science fiction film with originality. In apocalyptic 2035, where people live underground, prisoner James Cole (Bruce Willis) is sent to the surface for samples so a cure for a pandemic that killed most of humanity. Scientists however have a plan. They are able to send people back to the past so to see if they can stop the disease itself. When James heads back to 1996, he discovers that a group of environmental terrorists called 12 Monkeys may be the culprit.Directed by Gilliam, the screenplay was written by duo, David and Janet Peoples, based off a French short film LA JATEE by Chris Marker. The cast includes Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, David Morse, Christopher Plummer, and Madeleine Stowe. Your co-hosts take a look at this very interesting film and give their thoughts.

In our efforts to add some more variety to the show, Jack leads us on a whirlwind historical tour through the directorial works of acclaimed Monty Python member Terry Gilliam and his likely unprecedented run of just absolutely horrendous luck. We cover his entire non-Python feature filmography: Jabberwocky (1977) Time Bandits (1981) Brazil (1985) The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) The Fisher King (1991) 12 Monkeys (1995) Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (1998) The Brothers Grimm (2005) Tideland (2005) The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) The Zero Theorem (2013) The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018) Jack tries to get through all of this while trying to outrun his birthday hangover. We cover how not to watch Brazil, the impact of the Civil Rights Movement on Gilliam and likely an entire generation of poli-sci majors, the use of "gorilla" versus "guerilla," Gilliam's weaponization of the press and the consequences of his own actions, the importance of perspective when you're told you made someone feel unsafe, when a producer becomes a PROBLEM and why you should always get things in writing, the impact and loss of the massive talents of Robin Williams and Heath Ledger, the importance of context with focus groups, further evidence that horses are awful, a tangent about great WWE matches between the Undertaker and Mankind, the goddamn Weinstein Brothers, Matt Damon and whether or not he just has a thing for nose prosthetics, the invention of the "Dress Pattern Makers" film credit, Joe's favorite cheese, Gilliam's political inconsistencies in the face of the Me Too movement, an unexpected rant about Scientology, and the absolutely maddening events that lead to the documentary Lost In La Mancha (2002) and how none of that could account for the influence/interference of producer Paolo Branco. We also delve into some of our own film set misfortunes in our time as Ramming Speed Pictures. Take a seat away from any ladders or easily-breakable mirrors and enjoy this wild ride. Who knows, maybe one of these films will go just swimmingly! CW: Full spoilers for Brazil, descriptions of alleged unsafe working conditions and child endangerment, sexism, misogyny, discussion of the sexual assaults committed by Harvey Weinstein, mention of the deaths of Robin Williams, Heath Ledger, and Hunter S. Thompson. Podcast Plugged In This Episode: Doom Generation (@DoomGenPod on Twitter) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/derazzled/support

The possibility of physical and mental collapse is now very real because in this episode of the What's It About?! Film Podcast, we're discussing the drug-fueled cult classic, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. Even just a tiny taste of this film was enough to send us into conversations about drug experimentation, addiction, societal pressures, freedom from fear, and deep feelings of existential dread. No one should be asked to handle this trip... but we did anyway! "Hotel Lobby Unc", the intro to Migos member Takeoff's debut album is reminiscent of one of their first hits, "Versace". It is an autotune based slow jam with rapid adlibs and a relative slower tempo than most of Migos's tunes, which creates a dreamlike vibe. It is produced by Buddah Bless. Migos‘ Quavo and Takeoff have released a new single as a duo, prompting their bandmate Offset to unfollow them on social media. Kirshnik Khari Ball, known professionally as Takeoff, is an American rapper. He is best known as a member of the hip hop trio Migos along with his uncle Quavo and first cousin once removed Offset. Quavo and Takeoff have announced a new project under the name Unc and Phew, releasing debut single ‘Hotel Lobby'. You can hear the new single, along with Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas themed visuals below. Since they released the song, Offset is no longer following either of his bandmates on social media, fuelling rumours of the trio's breakup. His wife Cardi B has also apparently unfollowed Quavo and Takeoff. Quavo is Takeoff's uncle, so some of the promotion surrounding their new track “Hotel Lobby” has referred to them as Unc & Phew, but the song is officially credited to Quavo & Takeoff while still incorporating the Unc & Phew branding into the cover art. The song finds them busting out their signature triplet flows over a slow-creeping trap beat by Keanu Beats, Fabio Aguillarr, and Murda Beatz. Basically it sounds like a more ominous, Eastern-tinged “Bad And Boujee,” which I'm not complaining about. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ava-live-radio/message

It isn't just PSAs with our brains as a fried egg. Sometimes it's Euphoria's Mouse, a Latino drug dealer with face tattoos who forces a young girl to take fentanyl at knifepoint. Other times it's reruns of Robert Downey Jr. in Less than Zero, or Tupac and Tim Roth in Gridlock'd—characters suffering the predictable consequences of using heroin in the movies: their lives falling apart. But always on our televisions we are given a single story about drugs and those who use & sell them: failure and destruction. Media teach us things. We learn from what we see on screen, even if we know it isn't true. In this episode I talk about drugs on TV and in movies, and I unpack the way we learn things from the films we watch, even though we know they aren't real or true.  Bill Yousman's work related to media, prison and learning is available here. The LAST ANIME REVIEW of the first ever season of the ANIME NOISE PODCAST. This week we breakdown the music from a super gory, very philosophical sci-fi thriller called Parasyte: The Maxim. This ""Netflix original"" is based off the award winning 80's manga Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Rumors claim that the main character, Migi, could have been inspired by a real life medical condition called "Alien Hand Syndrome" where the sufferer has a hand that acts on its own without the person's control. Crazy, right? Anyway, although we weren't huge fans of how OST 1 was used in context with the anime, OST 2 kicked ass and we had piles of notes about this score and the spectacularly challenging art of film scoring for anime. It has been such a pleasure reviewing anime with you all for an ENTIRE YEAR! And although this is the last review, FEAR NOT my fellow weebs! Lorne Michaels, then a young producer, took along his friend Lily Tomlin one night and caught Newman's act and cast her for a spot on the 1975 Emmy Award winning THE LILY TOMLIN SPECIAL (Newman's television debut).Lorne would return months later to The Groundlings to recruit her for his new variety series for NBC, then titled NBC'S SATURDAY NIGHT, where (at 23 years of age) she became one of the original cast members - known as The Not Ready for Prime Time Players - appearing on the show from its inception in 1975 through 1980.On, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, Newman is best known for her roles as Connie Conehead, Valley girl Sherry, and Christie Christina, the ditzy co-host of E. Buzz Miller's (Dan Aykroyd) public-access television cable TV show.  Newman also played a TV news reporter for WEEKEND UPDATE with anchor Chevy Chase (Season 1) and later Jane Curtin (Seasons 2 thru 5).As a member of the original cast of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, Laraine Newman was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2017.On film she appeared in AMERICAN HOT WAX, WHOLLY MOSES!, PERFECT, Woody Allen's STARDUST MEMORIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and as Lawanda Dumore in PROBLEM CHILD 2. On television she was seen as Phoebe's step-mother on FRIENDS, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN, AMAZING STORIES, LOS ESPOOKYS, among other hit sitcoms. As a voice artist she can be heard on MONSTERS, INC., THE OBLONGS, DOC McSTUFFINS, AMERICAN DAD!, THE GRINCH, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, the DESPICABLE ME trilogy, MINIONS, INSIDE OUT, WALL-E, CARS, as well as countless others. Her acclaimed new Audible book MAY YOU LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES is not only a fascinating memoir of her growing up in Los Angeles along with her years at SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, but is also filled with incredible backstories and is a detailed snapshot of 1960s Los Angeles and 1970s New York City. Newman is also the mother of comedian, actress and writer Hannah Einbinder (of HBO Max's HACKS) and actress and writer Spike Einbinder (of HBO's LOS ESPOOKYS). Fields, Buster Keaton, Bröderna Marx, Edgar Bergen och The Three Stooges debuterade först inom vaudeville. Recognized as one of the most successful folk rock duos of the 70's, Brewer & Shipley have remained true to their original form throughout five decades. Constantly touring Brewer & Shipley could be found performing in such notable venues as; Carnegie Hall, The Bottom Line, The Troubadour, The Roxy, Keil Opera House, and Arrowhead Stadium.  Because of their broad appeal, they became a favored support act for major tours, sharing the stage with a diverse list of artists, including:  Elton John, The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Bonnie Raitt, Electric Light Orchestra, Jethro Tull, Humble Pie, Ted Nugent and Black Sabbath among others.  In 1979 after more than a decade of writing, traveling, and performing, Brewer and Shipley parted company to pursue personal interests.  Michael Brewer continued to make music, recording a solo album for Full Moon Records entitled "Beauty Lies".  This release featured guest artists such as Linda Ronstadt and J.D. Souther, and was produced by longtime friend Dan Fogelberg.  Tom Shipley began working as a television producer/director, eventually forming his own production company (Tarkio Communications).  He later founded the Oral History of The Ozarks Project, a not-profit organization producing documentaries about life in the Missouri Ozarks.  In 1986, at the request of  a Kansas City classic rock station the duo reunited for a concert to celebrate the stations first birthday.  Unsure of what to expect having been out of the public eye for so long, the duo was overwhelmed as they walked on stage to over 10,000 cheering fans welcoming their return.  Having come full circle from their days as staff songwriters living in Los Angeles, Brewer & Shipley began writing together again.  Their first project?  The soundtrack for one of Shipley's documentaries...the award winning, "Treehouse - An Ozark Story". In recent years, the duo has witnessed rejuvenated interest in their music, beginning with BMG's purchase of their catalog and subsequent re-issue of the critically acclaimed "Tarkio" release.  This was soon followed by the inclusion of "One Toke Over The Line" on the "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Limited Edition 25th Anniversary CD" (Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Rcds).   The same song was later featured on the "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" motion picture soundtrack (Geffen Rcds.).  In addition, the duo contribute guest vocals to their trademark song on "Hempilation II" (Capricorn Rcds.).  Brewer & Shipley continue to tour and record regularly, having released 2 albums since reuniting - "Shanghai" and "Heartland.”  Regarding Brewer & Shipley, Ron Sylvester (The Branson Note) wrote,  "An actual group from the 70's still capable of making vital music...For a duo best remembered as 70's folkies, this is a solid blast into the present...undeniable proof these guys can still make evocative music".   www.brewerandshipley.com

Kavanaugh vote, FBI Report, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Brett Kavanaugh and a look at a terrific new book every bibliophile will love, 1,000 BOOKS TO READ BEFORE YOU DIE -- oh the fun we have this week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, the podcast posted at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com when my guests are author James Mustich and joining me at my table for our weekly politics segment, Podcast America, is journalist Matthew Cooper. As we do every week, newsman Matthew Cooper joins me for our politics segment, PODCAST AMERICA, in which Matt and I slice and dice all things politics. Matthew Cooper is known for his in-depth reporting and analysis from Washington. Mr Cooper has worked for some of America's most prestigious magazines including Time, Newsweek, The New Republic, National Journal and U.S. News & World Report. He now serves as a contributing editor to Washingtonian magazine. For the record, Cooper also earned national attention during the CIA leak case when he was held in contempt of court and threatened with imprisonment for his refusal to name his sources and to testify before the Grand Jury regarding the Valerie Plame CIA leak investigation, a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court. He has appeared on 60 Minutes,Meet the Press, Hardball, The O'Reilly Factor and This Week with George Stephanopoulos. He has covered Donald Trump extensively, his hard-hitting and insightful profiles of “The Donald” always well-worth the read.We take a brief respite from politics in our second half-hour when I am joined by James Mustich, the author of 1,000 BOOKS TO READ BEFORE YOU DIE: A LIFE-CHANGING LIST. If as I do, you love books, boy do I have a book to recommend for you today and an interesting conversation when I speak with the book's author James Mustich, the co-founder of the acclaimed book catalog, A COMMON READER. In his new catalogue of the greatest books of all times, as compulsively readable, entertaining, surprising, and enlightening as the thousand books it recommends, organized A–Z by the author, the selections takes the reader on a rollercoaster of entries: For example, Flora Thompson's LARK RISE TO CANDLEFORD is followed by Hunters S. Thompson's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and then by the children's favorite, ELOISE. The result is an unexpectedly revealing juxtaposition of literature packaged in a beautifully designed book, enlivened throughout with extensive illustrations, its compilation of brief, yet informed and thought-provoking essays accompanying each title, giving the reader a sense of the work's historical and literary context and the reason why the book is on the list. Extensive, intelligent, it's a lively library in a book in which readers of all ages will find books to add to their personal collections and to-be-read piles. It is the ultimate gift book for bibliophiles, a veritable treasure trove that brings reading back to the center of our cultural conversation.Kavanaugh vote, accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Brett Kavanaugh, The Senate, the Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade, books and more books, a fascinating show this week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, the podcast posted at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com.

This drug-fueled trip through the American dream was a critical and commercial disappointment upon release, but the past two decades have seen its star rise (in a large part due to its inclusion in the Criterion Collection) and it's become one of Gilliam's most popular films. In this week's episode we look at the work of enfant terrible, Terry Gilliam. First known for being the animator in MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS, he took his unusual style into the movies. His films have a visual style that is distinctly his own. Mostly working in the fantasy realm, his films can be comedic, surreal, claustrophic and magic. He is also known for his battles with Hollywood, as in taking on Unviersal Studios in THE BATTLE OF BRAZIL and getting his cut released. Terry Gilliam is a master filmmaker. The films under discussion are BRAZIL, TWELVE MONKEYS, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and THE BROTHERS GRIMM. Movie Heaven Movie Hell is a show where filmmakers Simon Aitken (BLOOD + ROSES, POST-ITS, MODERN LOVE) and Keith Eyles (FEAR VIEW, DRIVEN INSANE, CROSSED LINES) go through the A-Z of directors. Simon and Keith talk about their favourite and least favourite film from that director's body of work. Let's get down to brass tacks. We're talking about FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS for this episode of the Nighthawks Podcast. This deceptively deep movie is from film auteur and former Python, Terry Gilliam, and stars Johnny Depp as the enigmatic Dr. Hunter S. Thompson- er... Raoul Duke. Hunter S. Thompson's book is said to have defined a generation, and within it beats the soul of a man who is looking for one last grasp at the sixties. What follows is a true-to-some-degree story about a drug addled journalist and his drug addled attorney taking on Sin City. Will Vegas be the paradise they seek, or just another money making shill? We lost Dr. Thompson 11 years ago, this month. The Nighthawks present this discussion as our humble tribute to an American folk hero.
