Captain Kirk pursues his biggest nuisance to a planet in the Arcadian system, where, sure enough, he finds Harry Mudd peddling his latest drug -- a so-called love potion -- to the miners working there. Turns out this love potion actually works and soon makes its way through the crew of the Enterprise, starting with Mr. Spock, much to the initial delight of Nurse Chapel. Completing a trilogy of sorts that started with "Mudd's Women" (one of the first "Star Trek" episodes ever produced) Stephen Kandell returned to write "Mudd's Passion" for "The Animated Series," which, fortunately, also saw Roger C. Carmel reprising his role as Harry Mudd. (Sorry, but there's no way James Doohan could have pulled that one off!) While far from being the crowning achievement of "The Animated Series," "Mudd's Passion" is an enjoyable-enough episode for "Star Trek" fans that saw the return of a beloved character. Sarah & Joe boldly go where they've planned to go before, but never quite got around to it, with It Happened One Year's look at the original Star Trek series, specifically the season two episode "I, Mudd," airing November 3rd, 1967! After an intro by friend of the show Lana Cooper, the hosts touch on what was skipped by season one's 1994 omission of Generations and The Next Generation finale, their respective (and somewhat limited) personal exposure to the film and TV franchise, and discuss just how misogynistic (or not?) the show was in its early days. There's also a quick look at the character history of Harcourt Fenton Mudd (and his portrayer, Roger C. Carmel, with his epic mustache), and also another surprising conversation around the tight-pants epidemic prevalent on Friday night television in '67.

When an android posing as a crewman hijacks the Enterprise to an uncharted planet, Captain Kirk discovers the true culprit to be his old nemesis, Harry Mudd. His plan: to strand Kirk and his crew on the planet, where they will be served by a race of androids, while he escapes to his freedom on the Enterprise. But Mudd's plan backfires when the androids turn on him and decide to leave him behind with the rest of Kirk's crew, while they set out across the galaxy to conquer the human race and "protect" mankind from itself. The stakes are indeed high in "I, Mudd," which is a stark contrast to the more lighthearted, fun and madcap tone that permeates it. It's a total departure from anything ever attempted before on "Star Trek," but the producers and cast members make it work by leaning into the farce of it all and running with it. Everyone is clearly having a ball, especially William Shatner and returning cast member Roger C. Carmel as Harcourt Fenton Mudd. This week on Episode 531 of Priority One: News is sparse as we gear up for the next season of Star Trek: Discovery, but there's plenty to discuss in the world of Star Trek gaming! TREK IT OUT Edited by Thomas Reynolds Power Seating on Star Trek: Discovery By Rosco McQueen Sonequa Martin-Green is on the interview circuit in the lead up Season 4 of Discovery. She spoke with SFXMagazine about the feeling of finally sitting in the captain's chair, and the answer isn't as simple as “soft and comfortable, and could they install a cup holder?” "It feels very humbling. But it also feels very emboldening. I'm grateful for it because you feel like you earned this position with Burnham. You feel like you were able to learn and grow and make mistakes and mature from them with her." It's a new direction with a new captain, and the new series is set to premiere next week! Don't everyone cheer at once. Image: ViacomCBS, via GamesRadar. Time Enough For Mudd By Rosco McQueen Harcourt Fenton Mudd only appeared in two live-action episodes of Star Trek, and once in animated form, but he left a lasting impression [and I guess Rainn Wilson didn't?–Ed.]. So much so that a spin-off was in the works, as revealed in an article from Fansided. The article delves into the Starlog Magazine interview archives to discover that the pitch never got past the desk of the Great Bird of the Galaxy. Gene Roddenberry told the actor, Roger C. Carmel, that the artists didn't have time to develop the project, which would have seen Mudd take the lead in the series as a space pirate/intergalactic con-man. Carmel was supposed to reprise his role in a first season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but the actor died before filming began.

The name’s Mudd — Harcourt Fenton Mudd, aka Harry Mudd! Roger C. Carmel makes his first of 2 “Star Trek” appearances in this early first season episode, which, quite frankly, doesn’t exactly represent “Star Trek” at its finest! But it still has its merits, among them being an aspirational message that upholds the ideals of what “Star Trek” stood for! Aktuális műsorunkban az ’Én, I. Mudd’ című epizódról beszélgetünk. Rövid hírszekció: • A Star Trek: Picard első évadának forgatása véget ért, az október elején tartandó New York-i Comic Conon újabb hírek érkezhetnek. Jonathan Frakes szerint a Discovery harmadik szezonja sokkal optimistább lesz. • Szeptember 14-én élő Impulzus beszélgetés lesz a Day of Stars 2019 rendezvényen. A kerekasztal témája: mindig a legújabb filmeket és sorozatokat gyűlöljük? A belépés ingyenes. A kibeszélő tartalmából: • Komédia, könnyed történetmesélés, abszurd színielőadás a Star Trekben: amikor a túlzott viccelődés a mondanivaló rovására mehet.

Harcourt Fenton Mudd: scoundrel, con-man, forger, misogynist, thief, sociopath. When Captain Kirk’s recurring villain was reinvented for Discovery, his list of crimes expanded to include murder. Previously a harmless ne’er-do-well, Harry Mudd, portrayed on The Original Series and The Animated Series by Roger C. Carmel, became more than a thorn in Captain Lorca’s side when …
It’s the showdown of the century… Bruce Lee vs Burt Ward! Or at least, that seems to have been how some young viewers — and Lee himself — saw this arc! As the Green Hornet and Kato visit Gotham, we dig into Lee’s seeming obsession with Ward. So why did the Hornet appear on Batman? Does the Hornet bring his own tone, or get his tone changed for him by Batman? Paul notes how different the Hornet looks with Batman cinematography. Meanwhile, Roger C. Carmel’s character Colonel Gumm, dismissed by most juvenile viewers, turns out to have plenty to offer us as adults. Mudd's Passion. Roger C. Carmel is back as Harry Mudd, this time swindling miners with a love potion. Yay?! Yeah, not so much. The Harry Mudd character had been pretty well mined, pun fully intended, and in the 21st century is somewhat problematic. So, what do we do when an episode may not be our favorite? Why, we dive deeper! We look at an unused shuttle seen in the background of the shuttle bay, postulate on the connection between the Ursanoids and D.C. Fontana’s original concept for a founding member species of the Federation, we even talk about spectacular failures of rail-based romantic-comedy TV shows! Character actor Roger C. Carmel died twenty years ago today. His career included roles as wide as the Batman tv series, Smokey the Bear, and "Senor Naugles" in a very popular series of commercials for the now-defunct Naugles restaurant chain. But his most famous role was that of Harry Mudd in the original Star Trek. The fall of 1986 was a pivotal time in the history of Star Trek. The fourth film was due out soon and the series "Star Trek: the Next Generation" would be coming out a year later. I talk about what Trek fandom was like in those days.Today's episode music is "Meandering in the Sun," by Seraphic Panoply. Theme music is composed and performed by Marc Rose.
