Well we have done 500 shows, and we would do 500 more, but first we want to celebrate the fact that we've made it this far! Therefore, this is a special episode of Baconsale because Joel, Kent, and Zack recorded it live in front of patrons and listener at The Studio at Parker Theatre. We'll give a bit of a Baconsale sampler platter to the audience as we complete a menu quest bracket, tier some bands we've discussed before, and do a streaming services category show. We'll also play some rounds of the Parents Guide Game and the game of Baconsale with the crowd before opening the microphone for a Q&A session. Things may get a little chaotic, and the show may run a little long, but we hope you enjoy the silliness and the sentimentality of our 500th episode. Don't give to peer pressure, but make sure you know who Teri Garr is before you press play.

Trek Untold: The Star Trek Podcast That Goes Beyond The Stars!
Carey Foster appeared in the original TOS pilot, "The Cage," with Jeffrey Hunter as a character who ended up not making the final cut. However, she returned as a Starfleet officer clad in blue in the background of many episodes during the first season of the show.Foster's time in Star Trek was the next step in her relationship with Gene Roddenberry, her uncle, who had previously cast her in an episode of "The Lieutenant." Her Hollywood career had little to do with acting until that point, predominantly working as a dancer in big budget musical movies and several features with Elvis Presley - a superstar she briefly dated!Carey Foster stops by Trek Untold to tell us stories about working on these many sets, her dancing pedigree, and what she does today as an educator in the Montessori system of learning. Plus, her longtime friendship with Teri Garr, the risque choices of Gene Roddenberry in the original Star Trek pilot that almost got the show cancelled before it began, and the actual name of the Starfleet officer she played that was never revealed on TV!Please subscribe to our brand new YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@trekuntold .There, you will see all the old episodes of this show, as well as new episodes and all of our other content, including shorts and some other fun things planned for the future.Visit my Amazon shop to check out tons of Trek products andother things I enjoy - https://www.amazon.com/shop/thefightnerd View the Teespring store for Trek Untold gear & apparel- https://my-store-9204078.creator-spring.com Support Trek Untold by becoming a Patreon at Patreon.com/TrekUntold.Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and leave a rating if you like us!Follow Trek Untold on Social MediaInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/trekuntoldTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/trekuntoldFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/trekuntoldFollow Nerd News Today on Social MediaTwitter: Twitter.com/NerdNews2Day Instagram: Instagram.com/NerdNewsToday Facebook: Facebook.com/NerdNewsTodayTrek Untold is sponsored by Treksphere.com, powered by the RAGE Works Podcast Network, and affiliated with Nerd News Today.
In this week's tribute episode, Janet, John, (and Pen) celebrate the life and career of an American actress with “Hollywood in her DNA,” known for her comedic roles in film and television in the 1970s and 1980s. A true courageous and magical talent.. Teri Garr! Born in Los Angeles to a theatrical multi-hyphenate father and Radio City Rockette mother, Garr was trained in ballet and would go on to appear as a dancer in five Elvis Presley movies. After studying acting in New York City, she had her breakthrough appearing in the episode Assignment: Earth of Star Trek in 1968. From there she starred in Francis Ford Coppola's thriller The Conversation in 1974 and found increasing success in films like Oh, God! (1977), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), The Black Stallion (1979), One from the Heart (1982), After Hours (1985), and Tootsie (1982) which earned her the nomination for an Academy Award. This week, we're tearing up the baseboards and getting funky on the saxophone as Gene HackMarch rolls on with a Coppola classic surveillance thriller that he snuck in between Godfathers. It's 1974's The Conversation, written, directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gene Hackman, John Cazale, Harrison Ford, Allen Garfield, Cindy Williams, Frederic Forrest, Teri Garr and Robert Duvall. Needless to say, Hackman is terrific at the heart of an essential 70s paranoid thriller -- though is it really paranoia if you know your fears are true? His Harry Caul is a meticulous professional, a cunning and inventive man who is very good at his work having to reckon with the evil that work may bring in to the world. And can even the best spies really tell good from bad when they only have a piece of the picture? It's a great movie, and a first time watch for both hosts. Plus: J Mo's been to the theatre so we've got a full discussion of Mickey 17, and Hayley's finally captured her great white whale VHS tape. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our discussion, The Conversation is currently streaming on Criterion Channel at the time of publication (and can also be found in full for free on YouTube). Other works discussed on this episode include E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, When Harry Met Sally..., MouseHunt, Sneakers, Runaway Jury, Enemy of the State, Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, Morbius, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Outsiders, Megalopolis, Dog Day Afternoon, Practical Magic, The Lives of Others, and a last minute Corrections Corner on Crimson Tide. We'll be back next week to close out Gene HackMarch with our monthly canon consideration, as this month we induct The Royal Tenenbaums into the hallowed halls of the pod-canon. It is currently streaming on Disney+, Crave, and Starz. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!
This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mike back on the show as we discuss the 1985 dark comdey After Hours. In this Marin Scorsese directed love story to the seedier side of New York, an American Werewolf is just trying to get home after a terrible date, but just can't seem to pay his way back. Apparently in 1985, it was ok to leave the house in NYC with $20 and expect round trip service (and pay for a date too). This cast is deep, with a lot of up and comers (including Kevin McCallister's parents) and E&N fav Teri Garr. Scorsese aways mixes laughs into even his hardest dramas, but it's nice to see a straight up comedy from one of the all time greats. We all had a great time discussing this all-time classic. Enjoy the podcast!

Welcome back to the Video Store! Valentine's Day is almost upon us and if you're here looking for movie selections instead of out buying flowers or making dinner reservations, then sir or madam, I salute you. For this week's episode of the show I've picked four movies that feature unconventional relationships. After browsing the stores aisles looking for this week's film recommendations, I ended up rewatching all four of these movies (a couple of which I hadn't seen in decades) and for the most part they have all aged well. Harold and Maude (1971)Harold is a young adult obsessed with death, while Maude is a 79-year-old woman infatuated with life. The two share a hobby in common — attending the funerals of strangers — and soon this odd couple forms a close relationship. Wikipedia describes this film as a “romantic black comedy drama,” which only begins to describe it. It's sweet, it's funny, and it's emotional. While critics originally hated it, the film as gone on to appear in many “best of” film lists. Something Wild (1986)The last person you would expect a New York banker like Charlie to get involved with is a carefree person like Lulu, but after she kidnaps the yuppie for a weekend of reckless fun, Charlie finds the adventure exciting… until things get out of hand. When Lulu's husband discovers what the pair has been up to, he is none too happy. Someone — or perhaps everyone — has been lying. This not-to-miss thriller stars Jeff Daniels as Charlie, Melanie Griffith as Lulu, and a terrifying Ray Liotta has Lulu's husband, Ray. After Hours (1985)Have you ever had one of those days? After work, Paul Hackett heads to a local diner where he meets a woman named Marcy. The two exchange numbers and later, she invites him over to her apartment. This starts off a chain of events that will have Paul running around the streets of New York from one mess to the next. Before the end of the night his face ends up on wanted posters, he's chased by an angry mob, and he becomes involved in a city wide crime ring. It's a night that Paul will never forget — or maybe, survive. Featuring a star-packed cast including Griffin Dunne (An American Werewolf in London), Rosanna Arquette, Linda Fiorentino, Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, Bronson Pinchot, Dick Miller, and even Cheech and Chong. Directed by Martin Scorsese.Valley Girl (1983)Randy (Nicholas Cage) is a punk rocker from Hollywood. Julie (Deborah Foreman) is a Valley Girl. Their worlds are complete opposites and it seems that everybody and everything will try and stop them from getting together, but sometimes, love finds a way. This classic 80s film was directed by Martha Coolidge and will take you back to the sights, sounds, and music of the 1980s.Thanks for checking out the podcast. If you don't have plans this Valentine's Day, you can have a great time renting and watching one of these films. And if you would prefer to get out of the house, you can always drop by a stranger's funeral. You never know who you'll meet! This is a public episode. We discuss a cross-section of highlights from her body of work, from her 9 appearances as a background dancer in Elvis movies, to tv and commercials in the seventies, to her breakout role in Young Frankenstein, her Oscar-nominated performance in Tootsie, some of her lesser-known but interesting parts and her legendary status as David Letterman's favourite talk show guest, which cemented everyone's love for her. But we also discuss how brutally honest and aware she was about showbiz sexism and how it helped (and hurt) her career. JFD is back to help you ease into November and this month we pay tribute to Teri Garr by taking a look at three of the goofiest entries in her filmography. Up first, OG SNL writer Tom Schiller directs a short for Cinemax Comedy Experiment in 1988 titled Flapjack Floozie starring Teri Garr as a turn-of-the-century singer with and addiction for pancakes that almost spells her demise. Then, the director of License to Drive and the writers of Bill and Ted tell the tale of a boring middle-aged suburban couple (the disgraced Jeffrey Jones and the wonderful Teri Garr) who are kidnapped by an alien dictator (Jon Lovitz) in the visually impressive Mom and Dad Save the World from 1992. And finally, Teri Garr plays the mother of a young boy played by Ben Savage who befriends an alien played by Sinbad, who he finds in a box of cereal and helps him defeat an intergalactic threat in the made-for-TV movie Aliens for Breakfast from 1995. We begin November with an absolutely packed episode of movie reviews and news here at Breakfast All Day. First, we discuss the worst of this week's new movies: "Here," which reunites the director, writer and stars of "Forrest Gump." The idea behind Robert Zemeckis' film, based on a graphic novel, had potential: The camera doesn't move the whole time as we watch peoples' lives play out over centuries and decades. Among them are Tom Hanks and Robin Wright's characters, stuck as everyone is in the same living room. It's ambitious, but we kinda hated it. In theaters. Next is a movie we loved: "Blitz," from writer-director Steve McQueen ("12 Years a Slave," "Shame," "Small Axe"). Saoirse Ronan and excellent newcomer Elliott Heffernan play a mother and son struggling to get back to each other after being separated during the London Blitz of World War II. You know from the first shot that you're in the hands of a true artist. In theaters now and streaming on Apple TV+ starting Nov. 22 (but you really should see it in a theater if you can). Then, we review "Juror #2," which may be 94-year-old Clint Eastwood's final film as director. He's made a solid, old-fashioned courtroom drama about a juror in a homicide trial (Nicholas Hoult) who realizes he knows more about the case than he'd like to admit. This is an extremely well-made movie for grown-ups, with a strong supporting cast that includes Toni Collette, Chris Messina, J.K. Simmons and Zoey Deutch. In limited release. Finally, we also really loved "A Real Pain," starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin as estranged cousins who travel to their beloved grandmother's homeland of Poland after her death. Both give nuanced performances and Eisenberg, as writer and director, shows a great mastery of tone. In theaters. And if it's Friday, it's time for Movie News LIVE! Among today's topics were Teri Garr, Disney +'s Look Ahead, Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer and the trailer for the new "Paddington" movie. Join us for our livestreams every Friday at Noon Pacific. She's best known for her role as the dim witted seductive lab assistant to Gene Wilder's mad scientist in Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein. She was later nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Tootsie. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Garr became a spokeswoman for MS research and support.
