Shawn and Paul Finally Meet In Real Life - 294

Shawn and Paul finally meet in real life! Shawn is from Canada. Paul is from England. They have been podcasting together for over 9 years. They have spoken over Skype and Zoom. However, it was not until this week that the two friends finally met in person. This is the episode where they discuss their history, their visit, and a huge pile of other topics! Paul, his wife Linda, and their two boys have come to Canada to visit Paul's aunt. It was 1994 the last time Paul and Linda made the trip. Since the two friends started podcasting they have vowed to one day meet in person. The trip to Canada was Paul's perfect opportunity to visit Shawn. So, after a week in Toronto, the boys flew home to England and Paul and Linda flew up to Sault Ste. Marie. Everything is bigger in Canada. The cars are larger. Road lanes are wider. Cheese is in all the foods. There is more land and everything is more spread out. On Paul and Linda's bucket list was trying a genuine Canadian poutine, which they did. They also enjoyed the beaver tail pastry, Dairy Queen blizzards and Tim Horton's coffee. Trying to visit the United States also became quite the ordeal. Shawn and Paul finally meet in real life! However, they have quite the podcasting history. Paul was Shawn's UK Correspondant on the old Rusted Robot podcast. They then created and co-hosted the Sci-Fi Waffle podcast for 40 episodes. Dan later joined them and they created the Cosmic Pizza podcast and the Epsilon Three podcast. This week's podcast promo: Cosmic Pizza Podcast

Is it stress or just life that causes you to feel the way you do? This week on the podcast, we are taking a look at what has been on the mind of your host. As of late, there has been a bit of nostalgia on the mind. And as such, it might be time to look ahead to what might be coming. A return to the Rusted Robot Podcast might be in order. Shawn hosted that pop culture podcast for about 7 years. Rusted Robot was your weekly dose of geek style news and reviews. Its return might be in the forecast. Kirstie Alley's death would have been a major topic on this week's episode had the podcast still been a thing. The Etsy shop is going well. It is called Rusted Robot Toys. If you are looking for some pop culture gifts, the Etsy shop should be your first stop. My YouTube channel is also called Rusted Robot Toys. Check it out! In other news, I purchased my first hour glass this weekend. I have wanted to collect hour glasses for 30 years but never did so. Will this be the start of a new craze? Time will tell (haha)! You also get to hear the newest promos for my 3 podcasts! Is it stress or just life? That really is the question. When I lived in Timmins I was always sore. I went to a massage therapist on a regular basis. My back and legs were always in pain. Ever since I moved to the Soo I have not needed to see a massage therapist. I didn't realize until recently how much pain and stress was caused by my living situation. This week's promo: ES DCU

Your host is both wired and tired on this week's episode of the Soul Forge Podcast. It's a fun, random episode filled with the usual irreverant humour you have come to expect! Why are we wired and tired? Well, Shawn has been exhausted and irritable as of late. This has been going on for many months. He is often out of breath and has a short fuse. So, the doctor hooked him up with a sleep lab study. In this episode, you hear all about that experience. Just take a look at the cover art to see how it looks to be hooked up! Because I posted the picture of me with all the wires on Facebook, some controversy erupted. You see, I didn't put any caption to give the photo context. My aunt freaked out. My dad (who I have not spoken to in nearly a year) called me a dumbass. It's quite a fun story! Other random topics are touched on in this episode. I'm thinking of doing a Rusted Robot pop culture segment. I'm going to have an ax enthusiast on an upcoming episode. I also talk a bit about my Etsy shop. Yard sales and nerd conventions and sales and stuff too! And wait until you hear about the new podcast that me and the boys from our Cosmic Pizza Podcast are doing! Boss Level Sweet Tooth and other updates! This week is a bit of a mixed bag. No major topic of discussion, but we do have many smaller, bite-sized things to discuss. Just enough to whet your appetite and bring you back for next week's episode! Starting off with Father's Day. It's coming up this Sunday. What did you get your father-figure for his special day? For those of you lucky enough to have a father, or a good relationship with your father, I hope you make the most of this time! Kickstarter campaign news! We're talking about the latest figures from my first attempt at fundraising. It is not going so well. As of this recording we are only 9% funded. I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos as of late. I'm learning everything I can about antiques and how to set up a store. I'm also a bit obsessed with G.I. Joe Classified action figures. Dog stuff! We have a couple updates about the puppies. In fact, you can hear Daisy the Golden Doodle barking in the background. Nimoy the teacup Yorkie is doing well, He's a happy dog. He eats anything and everything. Potty training is not fun! Residential school stuff. Bad things have happened in Canada. 215 bodies were recently found in Kamloops, BC. I offer a brief history of Native treatment here in Canada. I don't have a lot of knowledge, but I share what I do know. Store stuff! I have a five year plan. I am really very excited to get this operation up and running. Recently, I updated the Facebook page for The Rusted Robot. I've also added some products that are for sale. A real website should also be up and running soonish. We end the show by talking about some recent shows I have been watching. On Netflix I recommend Sweet Tooth. It's a cute 8 episode show about human-animal hybrid babies and the end of the world. Boss Level on Amazon Prime Video is a time-loop movie. Highly recommend both of these! Don't Mask Your Passions is a companion piece to episode 312 of The Rusted Robot Podcast. While recording episode 312 we got into a really in depth conversation about the nature of fandom and how one goes about displaying that passion. The chat was so good and so long it needed to be its own show. Voila! We have episode 177 of Soul Forge! Everything started by talking about Dave, an artist who paints pop culture into old paintings. By repurposing something, nothing goes to waste. This got me thinking about wearing your passions loud and proud. I often find it difficult to display my affections for everyone to see. However, at other times, I have no embarassment. Perhaps I still get stuck in the 1980s mindset of hiding your inner self. Growing up in the 80s was difficult because bullying was so prevalent. And yet, it is no longer the 80s. People can't hurt you for what you like. And so, the podcast covers many topics this week. We're talking about crazy fans, toxic fandom, and watching shows that aren't age appropriate. Plague doctor replica masks and 1950s style for Kitty. T-shirts with nerd logos, nerdy tattoos, Star Trek vs Star Wars and unnecessary limits. It's our third and final show covering Saturday morning TV from four decades ago, and we've arrived at NBC. The network offered an odd cartoon lineup in 1980, consisting almost entirely of reruns! Even Godzilla and his tricky pal Godzooky were in reruns at this point, along with Hong Kong Phooey, Daffy Duck, Jonny Quest, and more. Hanna Barbera's only new series was The Flintstone Comedy Show, a crazy revamp co-starring Captain Caveman, The Shmoo, and monster family The Frankenstones! Meanwhile Filmation supplied reruns of Batman (and Bat-Mite!) along with some long-forgotten heroes (Superstretch and Microwoman, anyone?) that eventually landed the studio in court for copyright infringement. But that didn't matter to the kids in 1980; we just chomped our Lucky Charms and watched it all... Success in love. This year the Soul Forge is including as many chats with successful couples as it is possible to find. These types of episodes are important in a world that can often seem lonely, cruel and cold. This week, we have a conversation with my co-hosts on my other podcast, The Rusted Robot. Josh and Kitty have known each other since she was 14 and he was 17. Find out when and how they met, and how long their story has been unfolding. They built the relationship on a solid foundation of friendship; friends who shared similar interests and outlooks on life. What started as mutual long-term crushes became official dating on August 18, 2000 at 11PM. Josh would go on to rent a room in Kitty's parents' house. They were practically living together almost from the very start. Kitty knew it was meant to be when she build a sign in shop class with her future last name on it. In all their time together, they have only had 2 minor fights, and 3 somewhat major ones. They have survived living with various room-mates, and have struggled financially. They attribute their success to communication. It is vital to leave emotion out of discussions. Always try to remain calm and rational. They think like a team, as in "how do we solve this problem together?" Try to avoid drama at all costs. Josh's breakup limit rule. This week's podcast promo: Terminus Doctor Who Podcast

The lonely Shawn, also known as, the sad Shawn episodes were a series of Rusted Robot Podcast shows. For a time, Rusted Robot was co-hosted by husband and wife team Shawn and Brigitte Vanderloo. For a variety of reasons, that relationship fell apart. Yet, the team decided to continue on hosting the show together. However, due to various circumstances, this was not always possible. Shawn felt the show must go on, even if there wasn't always a co-host around. Shawn was so dedicated to his audience, that he felt it important to always be providing new content. Episode 79 of Rusted Robot is a prime example of a lonely Shawn episode. On this episode of Soul Forge, Shawn lays out the history and repurcussions of recording episode 79 by himself without a co-host. It is of course 100 years ago that World War One started and it seems only fitting we offer this as our nod of respect to those who have fallen. Promos played this month are of Hypnobobs and Rusted Robot so please listen to them for their location details. Also as usual we throw in a little cheeky clip at the end of the show. To listen direct just press the little play button on the podbean site , or download via iTunes or Stitcher Radio. Waffle On is available on all portable devices so please just use your standard podcast catcher. We have a ever growing Facebook page so head over there and join in the fun. Cheers Meds, Kell and Peter.
