Hi. My name is Wages of Cinema. You might remember me from such Podcast as.... wait, that's a different property Disney gobbled up into its coffers! But yes, once again it has been a little too long since you heard from us here, but we have been off doing... whatever wages we have to pay and so on. But we have returned to bring our thoughts on the new Biggest-and-Spectacular-and-Amazing-and-Superior and all the other Superlatives that have been ear-marked for new titles for SPIDER-MAN over the past decades, and on the new Tom Holland-led feature Dramedy Blockbuster. How dramatic or comedic, you ask? Well, SPOILERS will be web-shot at you 8 minutes and 10 seconds in, so it may be best to see the movie first and then come back to listen to us - being Jack, Trash-Panda Korey and Guest Star Matt (of https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com) - expound on all things 2026 Peter, Spidey, MJ, why (REDACTED) is in the movie and also why (REDACTED) is not. (Features clip from the trailer to the film, and to Marvel's Spidey and His Amazing Friends)
If there's one thing we know about Dracula, it's that he's supposed to be sexy. Not so much on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, where the "Bride of Dracula" episode makes the famous vampire decidedly unappealing. Firestar gets kidnapped to be his bride and is therefore out of commission for almost this entire episode, much to our chagrin. Meanwhile, Spider-Man and Iceman spend the whole episode ragging on each other and competing over Firestar in the process of trying to rescue her, which isn't that fun to watch either. We do make it fun to recap, though, and we also manage to make several references to Castlevania and Ryan's self-insert fanfiction about his vampire OC Fearix Wolfgang. One of the biggest comics announcements of San Diego Comic-Con was the reveal that Matthew Rosenberg will become the next ongoing writer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and this week he's here for his first in-depth interview about the series. Rosenberg opens up about initially turning down the job before IDW came calling a second time, why his run is inspired by the raw energy of the original Mirage comics, and how he plans to put the turtles through a relentless fight across New York City. We also discuss his love of Eastman and Laird's work, collaborating with artist Juann Cabal, bringing forgotten characters back into the spotlight, and why this story will embrace every corner of TMNT history while carving out its own identity. Those are some massive touchstones. What qualities from those stories became your creative north star for this new era of TMNT? Your story begins immediately after Gene Luen Yang's "The City That Never Dies" storyline, which sounds like it leaves the city fundamentally changed. How did Gene Luen Yang's finale create opportunities that wouldn't have existed otherwise? One of the biggest hooks is that the Turtles are being hunted over the course of a single night. What made that compressed timeline appealing, and how does it change the pacing compared to a more traditional TMNT story? You said the team hunting the Turtles is assembled specifically for this mission. Without spoiling who's involved, what makes this group uniquely equipped to challenge all four brothers at once? 10:59 Juann Cabal has shown he can handle kinetic action and expressive character work across Marvel and DC. What is it about his storytelling you're excited to see in TMNT? You've mentioned your love for Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Mirage Studios era. Were there specific themes or storytelling techniques from those early comics that you wanted to bring back for modern readers? Your comics often balance brutal action with sharp humor and strong character voices. How do you approach writing the Turtles so each brother feels distinct, especially when they're under constant pressure? You've written everything from street-level crime stories to huge superhero events. Where does TMNT fit creatively for you, and does it scratch a different storytelling itch than books like What's the Furthest Place From Here? or your Marvel work? You're taking over with issue #25, which already feels like a milestone. Looking ahead, what do you hope readers say about your TMNT run after they've finished that first story arc? Here's the audio-only version of the wild-ass YouTube performance that Maddy, Ry P, Ry T, and Todd did to raise funds for The Trevor Project (https://tilt.fyi/lWsgWRSOJc). We re-enacted the entirety of the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends episode, "Seven Little Superheroes," featuring the Chameleon kidnapping the Spider-Friends along with Doctor Strange, Namor, Shanna, and Captain America. Despite facing a copyright strike from YouTube near the end of the show for showing footage of the original episode, the Mutant Agers persevere and continue their performance in a second video (both available on our YouTube channel, reinstated thanks to fair use guidelines). The Ultimate Sci-Fi and Nostalgia Showdown: Reboots, Toys, and Tech Turmoil Ever wondered how our favorite childhood franchises are making a comeback, or how the tech industry's hidden drama affects what we buy? If you’re a sci-fi fanatic, toy collector, or tech geek, this post is your guide to the latest in fandom, nostalgia, and industry secrets. From the hype around Thundercats reboots to the fascinating conspiracy behind computer RAM shortages, we’ll cover it all — and share actionable insights to stay ahead of the curve.Get ready to discover how animation is dominating with quality storytelling, why blockbuster sequels are crushing records, and what the mysterious RAM shortage might mean for your next upgrade. Whether you’re here for the nostalgia trip or to understand the tech chaos, this comprehensive breakdown will keep you informed and entertained. Nostalgia Reboot Madness: Thundercats, Toy Story, and the Power of Reimagining Classics The nostalgia wave is crashing hard on modern media, bringing beloved 80s cartoons and movies back into the spotlight. But careful—if not done right, these reboots can go south fast. Fortunately, recent discussions from passionate fans reveal both the excitement and the caution needed when revisiting old favorites.Thundercats Returns: Nostalgia Meets Animation InnovationFans of Thundercats are buzzing as talk of a reimagined reboot surfaces. The plan? A full-length animated movie that honors the 80s original while incorporating modern storytelling. This shift to animation — moving away from live-action pitfalls — seems to be the right move, especially following successful revivals like Masters of the Universe. The idea is to bring back the essence of the classic but with a fresh, mature storyline that appeals to both nostalgic adults and new viewers. What makes this promising? The focus on quality animation and storytelling, similar to Young Justice, which has been praised for its deep character development and compelling plots. Fans are hopeful that this approach will capture the essence of the original, avoiding the pitfalls of poorly executed live-action adaptations.Toy Story 5: An Unstoppable FranchiseOn the film front, Toy Story continues its record-breaking streak. The latest installment surpassed expectations, pulling in over $160 million domestically in its opening. Fans rank it as the second-best in the series, with some suggesting the franchise is still strong despite past criticisms of the fourth film. Key tip: When animation and story are combined with heartfelt moments, even a franchise approaching its fifth film can feel fresh and relevant. If you haven’t caught Toy Story 5, it’s worth a trip to the theater — and a reminder that staying true to the original formula pays off.The Power of Quality Animation in RebootsWhether it’s Thundercats or Toy Story, the common thread is stunning animation paired with engaging storytelling. The success of series like Batman Nightfall or Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends demonstrates that fans crave nostalgic characters but with modern visuals and mature narratives. Animation is not just a medium; it's the key to longevity in the superhero and sci-fi universe. Special Guest Insights: Why Animation Dominates Modern Sci-Fi and Superhero Content In lively discussions, experts emphasize that animation allows for creative freedom and detailed character design, which live-action sometimes struggles to match. Shows like Teen Titans Go and Young Justice illustrate the appeal of animated series—they are versatile, visually stunning, and can adapt complex stories for all ages. Pro tip: For die-hard fans, investing in animated reboots or series is a safe bet for quality content. Plus, these series often serve as a testing ground for future live-action adaptations, ensuring the core essence remains intact. Tech Industry Secrets: The Hidden Drama Behind RAM Shortages and Price Hikes Switching gears, recent conversations unveil a less-known but significant industry story: the mysterious RAM shortage. This isn't just about supply chain hiccups; it's about a possible conspiracy involving major RAM manufacturers. The RAM Saga: Old Scandal, New CrisisHistorically, giants like Samsung, Hynix, and Micron have played hardball in the RAM market. Back in 2002, these companies pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, allegedly manipulating production to inflate prices. Fast forward to today, and a new class-action lawsuit claims they're doing the same, with shortages blamed on high demand from AI centers — but the truth might be more sinister. Why does this matter? Higher RAM prices mean more expensive computers, gaming consoles, and tech upgrades for consumers. The scarcity also hints at deliberate manipulation, akin to a historical scandal replayed for modern earnings.Impact on Consumers and IndustryThe scarcity affects hardware prices for gamers and professionals alike. Expect to see increased costs for PCs, consoles, and even smartphones. Critics argue this is a smokescreen to inflate profits under the guise of AI-driven demand—a classic case of industry insider games that secretly raise costs for the end user. Actionable advice: Stay informed about industry lawsuits and conspiracy theories. Recognize that tech prices might not always align with supply and demand but could be strategic moves by monopolistic players. The Power of Animation and Industry Trends: What's Next? Looking ahead, animation will continue to dominate storytelling for superheroes and sci-fi, especially with high-quality productions like Batman Nightfall. The upcoming trilogy promises dark, immersive, and visually stunning narratives that rival blockbuster films.Meanwhile, the industry's behind-the-scenes drama over hardware supply chains could lead to further shortages and price hikes, changing how and when we upgrade our devices. As a consumer, staying updated helps you make smarter purchases and avoid inflated bills. Next actionable step : Keep an eye on upcoming release dates, industry lawsuits, and animation projects. They are indicators of where entertainment and technology are headed. Final Takeaways: Staying Ahead in a World of Nostalgia and Industry Secrets Nostalgia is powerful: Reboots like Thundercats and Toy Story prove quality animation and storytelling remain king. Animation is the future: It's the best vehicle for bringing classic characters to life in a modern, engaging way. Industry secrets matter: Hidden lawsuits and conspiracy claims about RAM shortages could influence hardware prices and availability for years to come. Be informed and proactive: Follow industry news, support quality series, and consider investing in animation or digital content—both are booming. Want to get ahead? Subscribe to updates on upcoming animation projects and tech industry revelations—your future self will thank you. FAQ Section: Deep Dives into Your Favorite Topics Is the Thundercats reboot official yet? While official details are still emerging, plans mention a full-length animated movie that respects the original 80s design while modernizing the story. Why is the Toy Story 5 box office so successful? It's a mix of nostalgic appeal, high-quality animation, and emotional storytelling that resonates across generations, keeping the franchise relevant. What's really behind the RAM shortage?Evidence suggests major companies may have colluded in the past to manipulate RAM prices, and current shortages could be a strategic move to inflate profits—possibly leading to another industry scandal. Will animation always outperform live-action for superhero stories?Policymakers and fans alike argue that animation offers more creative freedom, cost-effectiveness, and visual richness, making it the preferred medium for many future projects. How can I stay updated on industry conspiracies and entertainment releases?Follow trusted podcast sources, industry watchdogs, and official announcements. Being informed gives you a leg up on price hikes and content quality. This is Firestar's origin story, arguably a more accurate and official one than the (worse) one that she gets in the comic books later on because Angelica Jones was invented specifically for Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. We loved this origin story for her because it involves her pushing back against a sociopathic mean girl at school and, perhaps best of all, the X-Men are in this episode. Storm makes the mistake of asking Firestar for her backstory, which is why we get to hear an extremely lengthy summary of every single time Angelica got bullied for being a mutant (and for being poor). You know who else is in this episode? The Juggernaut, bitch. We all know Peter Parker's origin story, but Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends was obligated to give it to us all over again, because this is Spider-Man's show. Before we get to the mandatory flashback depicting Uncle Ben's death, we get a modern-day story about a villain named The Shocker whose superpower involves vibrating people. We make all the jokes you'd expect us to make about that, but also, most of this episode is about how Ryan's apartment has been haunted by an old-timey shopkeeper who was murdered there in the early 1900s. Why is that something we discussed on this episode, and so often? Who knows??? Kingpin makes his debut on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and he actually comes off pretty well, devising a plan to brainwash Captain America and steal a multi-purpose ray gun developed in secret by the US military. The brainwashed version of Cap enlists Iceman to help him, and Iceman doesn't need any brainwashing in order to do whatever Steve Rogers tells him to do, including treason and murder. Spider-Man and Firestar have to help their gay BFF out of trouble, as usual. Remember the Black Knight from the movie Eternals (2021)? The Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends episode "Knights and Demons" actually does a better job introducing this character. Prior to the events of this episode, the Black Knight banished Modred (not to be confused with Mordred) to the Land of Shades, so Modred sends an enchanted gargoyle statue to Earth to steal the Black Knight's magic sword from a museum at the Spider-Friends' college. The gargoyle and the Black Knight both show up to fight over the sword in the NYC streets (and skies), so the Spider-Friends get involved, but they sure aren't helpful. The entire rest of the episode plays out like a Dungeons & Dragons game in which the Black Knight has surprisingly few points allocated to dexterity. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends does a very strange send-up of the film industry in "Spidey Goes Hollywood," in which Mysterio has built an elaborate lair underneath a studio lot on which a famous director named Sam Hollywood is filming a Spider-Man movie. Mysterio kidnaps Sam and forces him to get the real Spidey to star in the film, but Spider-Man won't agree without bringing along his friends Firestar and Iceman. Mysterio's real plan is to make a snuff film in which Spider-Man literally dies on set, and he needs to distract Iceman and Firestar from saving their friend so he creates sexy robots to seduce them. Now, you read all of that, and I bet you were thinking, "You know what this episode needs? For the incredible Hulk to show up!" That's what Marvel apparently thought. Why? Who knows. Who knows! We say farewell to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends… and hello to Iceman's sister, Lightwave! Todd, Ryan, and Maddy meet Video-Man for the first time (well, kind of) in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and we find out that he was originally created by the villain Electro, who may or may not be a video game developer. Either way, Electro lives in an underground lair beneath Manhattan, and he's been sending Video-Man arcade cabinets to select locations. That's because Video-Man has the power to leap out of his arcade machine, suck people into it, and also collect various pieces of metal for Electro to use to build a high-powered transformer. Flash Thompson gets sucked into a game cabinet first, in a game of Pong — actually, uh, it's called Pongo — and soon after, Bobby and Angelica get stuck in a game cabinet as well. It's up to Peter to save them all, which he actually doesn't need to do because everything just explodes at the end and Electro dies. We think? Also a bunch of other random shit happens along the way that doesn't even matter. What is this show?! Ryan, Todd, and Maddy meet their new favorite character, the Chameleon, in "Seven Little Superheroes," the latest wacky episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. This supervillain is a gender-fluid shape-changer who has a grudge against Spidey, Iceman, Firestar, and also four other random superheroes (Captain America, Namor, Doctor Strange, and Shanna the She-Devil). All seven of these superheroes get a mysterious invitation to the Chamelon's private island, which is a lot bigger than it looks and is full of traps designed to entice and ensnare them all. We love the Chameleon and we love how goofy this episode is. Ryan, Todd, and Maddy watch the Cold War-era horror story that is "Swarm," an episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends in which Earth is suddenly under threat from a mysterious object from outer space. The outer space object first lands near a beehive, which results in the bees transforming into a human-shaped swarm that has the power to shoot brainwashing beams at people to turn them into insect-like worker drones. Iceman and Firestar are susceptible to these beams, but Spider-Man isn't, because he's already a bug. Except he's also a free-thinking, individualist human, darn it! Maddy and Ryan invite Todd to the wild ride that is Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, specifically the episode "Sunfire" in which, you guessed it, the mutant Sunfire shows up alongside his evil uncle. For some reason, his evil uncle from the comic books isn't in this episode but instead a new character named Uncle Genju is here, with a rather more kid-friendly storyline than Sunfire's uncle had in the comics. Firestar and Sunfire have the exact same power set, and that plays a role in Uncle Genju's evil plot to create a fire monster that will destroy Manhattan and facilitate his world takeover. Once Firestar figures out what's really going on, she gets Spider-Man and Iceman to help her defeat the monster and clear the way for her to hook up with Sunfire. Up until that final battle, Bobby and Peter have mostly spent the episode dicking around and helping out Aunt May with her various helicopter-related foibles. We talk about the helicopter a lot. After a brief detour of Maddy and Ryan sharing some fun facts about Ms. Lion, it's time to get into an episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends that is hard to read as anything but gay: "The Fantastic Mr. Frump." The titular Mr. Frump is an old friend of Aunt May's who suddenly finds himself out of a job and down on his luck. Meanwhile, Doctor Doom has cast a magic spell on an amulet that bestows almighty power upon its wielder, and Mr. Frump ends up grabbing the thing by accident. Mr. Frump then decides to use his new godlike power to turn New York City into a never-ending Pride parade, and that would probably be fine with Peter, Bobby, and Angelica, except for Doctor Doom manipulating Mr. Frump into attacking the superhero trio. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981) was not created during a time period when Bobby Drake was canonically gay, but watching "The Origin of Iceman" sure has Maddy and Ryan wondering about that. Thanks to the return of Video-Man (who has his own origin episode earlier in this series), Bobby Drake loses his mutant powers. Under the pretext of researching why this could have happened, Peter Parker straps Bobby into the university lab's memory machine, which allows Angelica and Peter to watch all of Bobby's embarrassing high school social gaffes on a big-screen TV. We soon learn Bobby would rather create a blizzard than dance with a girl, and even now, he can't manage to sit next to a girl on a couch. Also, this episode has some all-time great J. Jonah Jameson comedy in it, so we're excited to see him as a recurring fixture on this show. Maddy and Ryan travel back in time to 1981, when Iceman was still closeted and also was one of the three stars of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. This show also introduced a new mutant character named Firestar who got added to comic book canon later on; she sure does look a lot like Mary Jane, who isn't present on this show. Also, she's only here because (once again) the show creators couldn't get the rights to Human Torch from the Fantastic Four. We picked "The Prison Plot" to watch because Magneto is the big villain in this episode, and next time, we'll be watching "The Origin of Iceman," an episode with a title that says it all. But honestly, after watching these two episodes of this show, we've decided we're going to keep on watching the rest. It's just plain fun, and even though Bobby wasn't necessarily written to be a closeted character on this show, it's very easy to see him that way, and that's an unexpected bonus. When everyone's racing to launch big strategies, success takes more than smart tactics. It takes alignment, discipline, and deep cross-functional trust. That's how the heroes in Spidey and His Amazing Friends, the hit animated Marvel kids' show, defeat the villains. In this episode, we unpack marketing lessons from Spidey's universe with the help of our special guest Emily Ferdinando, CMO at Bugcrowd.Together, we explore what B2B marketers can learn from nailing ABM execution, building content grounded in community feedback, and turning shared goals into real, coordinated action.About our guest, Emily FerdinandoEmily Ferdinando is a go-to-market leader with a focus on pipeline and revenue growth. She brings 15 years of GTM leadership experience, specializing in optimizing operational processes and data-driven strategy. With a background in sales and operations, Emily brings a unique approach to Marketing focused on down-funnel impact and top-line growth. Emily joins Bugcrowd from Veracode where she most recently led the Growth Marketing organization. Her background includes leadership roles across the GTM engine, including Global Business Development, GTM Enablement, and Operational Strategy. While there, she led the team through multiple events and two successful exits. Emily lives in New Hampshire with her husband and two young children. She enjoys the outdoors and stretching her creative muscles through painting, fiction writing and guitar. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Spidey and His Amazing Friends:Alignment over silos. In one episode, Spidey, Ghosty, and Miles all chase Rhino with their own plans, each using their powers, none working together. The mission falls apart. “We can say we have the same goal all day, but if we're not aligned on how we get there… that's what it's gonna look like,” Emily says. In marketing and in superhero teams, the difference between success and disaster isn't talent, it's coordination.One-size-fits-all content fits no one. Spidey's world works because it's made for everyone. Each with different powers, personalities, backgrounds, and their own story. That same inclusive mindset should guide your content. “Many people did not fit squarely into one piece,” Emily says. “If we ran our strategy that way, they were missing exposure to a lot of content that was really relevant to them.” Real impact comes from serving the overlaps, not the edges.Simple stories stick. Spidey and His Amazing Friends makes complex ideas—like teamwork, trust, and problem-solving—land through bright colors and clear stakes. For marketers, that's the goal too. “Making internal assumptions without pressure testing with the people who are going to be receiving the output of your team, it's a huge miss,” Emily says. Whether you're leading kids or customers, never assume they're on board. Ask, listen, and build with them.Quote“Spidey and His Amazing Friends, they really teach you what actual in practice, collaboration is supposed to look like and not look like. And it's really as simple as…you step back. We all know what we're supposed to do. It's just really hard in practice sometimes, and sometimes you can learn from the kids' shows. You just step back and go, we know what to do, we just need to do it.”Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Emily Ferdinando, CMO at Bugcrowd[01:00] Why Spidey and His Amazing Friends?[02:20] The Role of a CMO at Bugcrowd[03:00] Origins of Spidey and His Amazing Friends[19:38] B2B Marketing Takeaways from Spidey and His Amazing Friends[29:21] Bugcrowd's ABM Launch[33:30] Repackaging Content for Better Engagement[40:13] Bugcrowd's Content Strategy and Community Engagement[47:20] Final Thoughts and TakeawaysLinksConnect with Emily on LinkedInLearn more about BugcrowdAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company.
