S17E9 : KP x ACS Podcast : Evolusi Asal Usul Orang Sabah - Ariff AdiputraEvolution of Sabahan : Ariff Adi Putera - AC Sabah Podcast x Kinabalu Podcast : EP.18In this podcast episode, our hosts Richado and Kenny feature a conversation with Arif Adi Putera from the Institute for Development Studies (IDS). The discussion explores various topics, including the role of IDS in policy research for the Sabah state government and Ariff's academic background in international relations and political science. They also examine cultural evolution, the concept of a "prime symbol" in civilizations, and the importance of indigenous knowledge like "adat" for sustainable practices. People should listen to this podcast because it challenges our current understanding of Sabahan identity, which is steeped in culture, modified by politics, and always shifting. Ariff provides a unique blend of personal insight and intellectual depth, making hard ideas feel familiar. It's not only about history; it is about comprehending who we are today and where we're going. If you care about Sabah, this one will hit home.

As we commemorate Malaysia Day, it's a time to reflect on the formation of the Malaysian federation and its meaning today. How did the vision of the nation's founding leaders shape Malaysia, and does the federation still hold true to those ideals? The journey to Malaysia's formation is filled with pivotal events, watershed moments, and larger-than-life figures. Unraveling the complexities of that era—before, during, and after the federation's creation—presents a fascinating challenge. In this special episode of Kopitiam Council, Haffisz and Adi are joined by Avtar Singh, a Sabahan historian and returning guest with his own YouTube channel, Avtar Singh History. Together, they explore the historical significance of Malaysia Day and dissect the key moments that shaped the nation. This thought-provoking episode honors Malaysia's past while critically examining its current trajectory. Tune in to Kopitiam Council every week on:

The topic of secession has long been a contentious issue within the Sabahan narrative, often viewed with suspicion by the Federal Government in Malaya. But does this line of thinking hold any merit? This heated topic has landed many individuals in hot water, yet it remains a conversation worth having. One region has already left the Federation and thrived, but can such success be replicated, or is interdependence and cooperation the key to joint growth? Join Haffisz and Adi on Kopitiam Council as they tackle this controversial subject, navigating through disagreements and strong opinions. They aim to respectfully and rationally discuss the potential implications and possibilities of secession for Sabah, exploring both sides of this complex issue. Explore the rich tapestry of Sabah, a region known not only for its ecological diversity but also for its cultural and ethnic vibrancy. Boasting several dozen ethnic and sub-ethnic groups, Sabah has captured the national imagination with its kaleidoscope of communities. From the hinterland groups under the Kadazan-Dusun-Murut umbrella to the Tausug people of the East coast and many more, all fall under the expansive category of indigenous peoples. However, Sabah's cultural landscape extends beyond its indigenous groups, including the well-known Chinese and Indian communities that have woven themselves into the fabric of Malaysia. Surprisingly, Sabah is also home to a substantial population of non-indigenous ethnic groups, specifically those of Pakistani and Afghani descent. Predominantly of Pashtun (Pathan) origin, these communities have seamlessly integrated into Sabah's culturally diverse ecosystem over generations. This blending has given rise to a unique fusion of Muslim, Malay, and Pakistani-Afghani culture, which has endured through many generations. Catch Haffisz and Adi, on Kopitiam Council will delve deep into this fascinating group that has not only established itself but has become an intrinsic and enriching part of Sabahan life. Join them as they uncover the stories, traditions, and contributions of this unique community that has added another layer to the cultural mosaic of Sabah. Confessor used to spend her nights at Changi Airport with her fiancé, just looking at planes taking off and talking about life. Until one night where she needs to go to the toilet and she met something that made her think twice about staying till so late there. Title pretty much sums it, she saw someone combing her long, long hair in the washroom! Confessor stayed in a house where the family bought over from a doctor that is migrating. When she moved in, things were okay at first until it was not, especially the study room that confessor said there were countless events happening there until the house was sold off. Lucky for many of us, the house is no more longer around for purchase, just an empty plot of land. From Singapore, we have confession sent in from a Sabahan about this particular lonely road in Sabah. Any Sabahan listening to this, do let us know and if you happen to have stories from Sabah, we are waiting for you to CONFESS! It must be the Hantu! We love Bebbra so much that we made 2 episodes just for her. This time all three of us discuss the Sabah film scene, Sabahan identity in her works and also her journey to make ‘Langat di Odu', ‘Eye Love' and ‘Kopi, Donut dan Bayangan Gadis Berambut Hijau'. All these and more in the one and only podcast to be recorded in Bahasa Malaysia! Originally published on 4th May 2014.
