Scott Thompson was born and raised in Logan, UT. He’s a Mule Deer fanatic, and has been very successful at hunting them over the years. He’s also a part of the family business, Thompson Long Range. Scott’s father Mark, started Thompson Long Range in the early 90’s. He’s always been looking for ways to stretch his rifles, and shoot longer distances. Thompson Long Range holds a shooting course, from April to August each year, and teach people how to put a rifle together, mount a scope, learn ballistics, and load development. Then they head out to the range, and help each of their students learn the fundamentals of shooting their rifles out to 1,000 yards. On this episode, Scott breaks down some of the basics of getting started in long range shooting. He say’s that even though you don’t necessarily want to be shooting animals at 1,000+ yards, it’s more effective as a hunter, to be practiced and comfortable at longer ranges. Take one look at his instagram page, and you’ll see that he’s no amateur when it comes to his trade! He’s even started making his own replica skulls! After earning his Masters of Business, Austin was hired at Eberlestock, to be the Sales Director. That was pretty short lived, and he changed positions to his current role, as Marketing Director. Glen Eberlestock, the founder of the Eberlestock Brand, was an Olympian that competed in the biathlon. He recognized a need for a lighter-weight rifle stock, that was still durable. He started making rifle stocks, and drastically changed the times that the Americans competing in the Biathlon events. Later in life, after a career in the military, Glen recognized a need for a better way to carry a rifle, attached to a backpack, while hunting. He also felt a need to develop some tactical packs for the military, after September 11, 2001. Currently, Eberlestock’s business is roughly 50% hunting packs and 50% tactical packs. Eberlestock makes “The Legos of Backpacks,” as Ian calls them. You may be familiar with some of their older packs, such as the the Dragonfly and Blue Widow packs. They were built bombproof, but as with such durable materials, they came with some of the additional weight. Eberlestock has since brainstormed, engineered, tested, and repeated the whole process countless times since. Today, they have created some incredible, lightweight packs, that are super customizable and durable! The guys from Sahn Outdoors are some of the most down-to-earth, fun, and chill guys I think I've ever met. They love the outdoors and live every day with the #sahnliving mindset. Jace “The Machine” Guymon is one-of-a-kind! He eats, sleeps, breathes all things hunting! McCade had the opportunity to meet Jace the fall of 2016, when he had an archery elk tag in Utah. Jace had never met McCade before, but invited him to tag along while he checked some trail cameras. He told McCade to bring his bow. The next day, Jace helped McCade bone-out and pack-out the 6x6 bull he was able to harvest. Jace showed his true colors, and was all smiles the entire day! Follow Jace’s instagram account, and you’ll see that he’s no stranger to finding big bucks and bulls. Not only can he find animals, but he puts hunters on them and talks the hunter through the process of successfully harvesting these critters! Their meeting stemmed from a social media joke, regarding an errant arrow, in which McCade tagged Jules in. Thankfully, Jules laughed it off, and ended up shooting with McCade and his buddy Jeff, the following day. They had a great time and were finally able to catch back up at the Hunt Expo, in Salt Lake City, in February of 2019. In this podcast we talk about her recent promotion to the President of Carbon TV, the "Sports Center for the Hunting and Outdoor Industry." We talk about who Jules is and how she got started in the Hunting Industry, her writing contributions to several different hunting publications, and works with various conservation groups, and getting new females into the hunting and outdoor industries. Jules is a fantastic role model for all sportswomen and men! We also touch on turkey hunting, which is a major passion for Jules! In Episode 28, of the SAHN OUTDOORS PODCAST, Zach and McCade recap some of their fitness goals that they each set at the beginning of the year, in an earlier episode. It was totally random, and definitely unplanned, but the two of them were able to help a once-in-a-lifetime buffalo tag holder, harvest his trophy buffalo!! Zach and McCade originally took a trip to the Henry Mountains of Utah, to film and photograph big rutting Mule Deer bucks, Thanksgiving Weekend. They did get a lot of footage of some pretty great bucks, too! You have to tune in, and listen to the crazy story unfold! Episode 15 was a fun and easy episode to record. McCade spent the day shed hunting with Jeff Barlow, of Nimrod Outdoors, and his boy. Jeff found a nice single elk shed, while McCade ended up just hiking his guts out, as per usual! After a long day spent outdoors, they met up at the Barlow home in Emery County, and recorded their conversations. Jeff started Nimrod Outdoors, as a way to get more involved with his kids in the outdoors, and to share the adventures they have together! As a father of 7 kids, 6 boys and 1 girl, and living in the age of social media, he found it was a great way to connect with his growing children. Nimrod Outdoors has now expanded outside of the Barlow family, and includes 6 other fathers. With the expansion, they are getting more and more kids, who may not have an opportunity otherwise, involved in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. The name Nimrod, is derived from the Bible. Nimrod was known as a powerful man on earth, as well as a mighty hunter. As a religious man, a good father and husband, and a passionate outdoorsman, the name was a great fit, and the page Nimrod Outdoors was born! In one of their YouTube videos, Jeff’s oldest boy, Josh, shot a bull elk on a limited entry hunt in Utah. The bull ended up dying in a very challenging place to recover. Jeff recounts the “fun” memory of recovering the bull! Definitely go watch the video! Jacob, the second oldest Barlow bow, is a very talented baseball player! He loves hunting so much that he decided to quit baseball this year and spend more time on the mountain, shed hunting. Everyone knows that Jacob has incredible eyesight, and seems to ALWAYS be able to spot critters! Recently, little Joe, at 14 years old, was able to harvest his first turkey, and starts off the podcast by recounting his hunt. Also, go watch Joey’s first deer hunt on the Nimrod Outdoors Youtube Channel. His reaction is PRICELESS!!! Jace is turning 12 this year, and is very excited to hunt! The lonely daughter in the family, Maddy, makes her dad proud! She has her very own bow, and even asked for a BB Gun for Christmas. The two youngest boys watch hunting videos and participate in some outdoors adventures. Momma Nimrod also hunts, and with 20+ elk points, is looking forward to drawing a coveted Limited Entry Elk Tag in Utah soon! With some expected mule deer and elk tags, they want to be physically ready for the challenges associated with hunting these animals. We don't claim to be experts on the topics of nutrition, excercise, fitness, or anything else for that matter!
