What does it mean to be good? The world defines "good" as something completely different than God does. Goodness is the fruit of choosing good in your everyday life. We are wrapping up the summer series with McCade, our 7th child! McCade is practically perfect in every way (just kidding!) McCade is the youngest of seven and remembers all his siblings being older and stronger. As the 7th kid, he learned to be independent, courageous, and very tough. McCade is 16 years old now and is discovering who he is, what he believes, and how he wants to interact with us (the old parents he is stuck at home with). Now that he is the only child at home, we see the next few years being a sweet time for us to invest in his life and prepare him for what's ahead. Here are a few things he said in the episode for parents who are raising teenagers: Allow kids as much freedom as you can (responsibility = freedom!) Let them solve their own problems (stop coddling them!) Be a place for them to share, talk, and not be ridiculed We learned how powerful a parent's voice is in a teenager's life. Even if they roll their eyes and act like they don't care, they do. Cade shared how his relationship with God has been growing because he has watched his older siblings, and parents live out their faith. He has been watching and learning from us all these years. Parents, as your teenagers is trying to build their life, it's not too late for you to come alongside them. Be a parent who encourages, challenges (in love), and believes the best in your child. Jace had never met McCade before, but invited him to tag along while he checked some trail cameras. He told McCade to bring his bow. The next day, Jace helped McCade bone-out and pack-out the 6x6 bull he was able to harvest. Jace showed his true colors, and was all smiles the entire day! In this episode, McCade recaps an incredibly rare opportunity, that both he and Zach had recently. In summary, only two words are needed: Buffalo Hunt!!! It was totally random, and definitely unplanned, but the two of them were able to help a once-in-a-lifetime buffalo tag holder, harvest his trophy buffalo!! Zach and McCade originally took a trip to the Henry Mountains of Utah, to film and photograph big rutting Mule Deer bucks, Thanksgiving Weekend. They did get a lot of footage of some pretty great bucks, too! You have to tune in, and listen to the crazy story unfold! Be on the lookout for the video of the buffalo hunt, on their YouTube Channel, in the very near future. As he recaps some input on topics to discuss, from the SAHN social media platforms, McCade also drops some words of wisdom, and talks about being kind to others. He challenges the listeners to go out of their way, to be kind to one person, every day! Nowadays, especially with the social media influx, hunters seem to be bashing other hunters, more than ever. "We all need to work on being kinder, and supporting one another," McCade concludes. In this episode, McCade recaps an incredibly rare opportunity, that both he and Zach had recently. In summary, only two words are needed: Buffalo Hunt!!! It was totally random, and definitely unplanned, but the two of them were able to help a once-in-a-lifetime buffalo tag holder, harvest his trophy buffalo!! Zach and McCade originally took a trip to the Henry Mountains of Utah, to film and photograph big rutting Mule Deer bucks, Thanksgiving Weekend. They did get a lot of footage of some pretty great bucks, too! You have to tune in, and listen to the crazy story unfold! Be on the lookout for the video of the buffalo hunt, on their YouTube Channel, in the very near future. As he recaps some input on topics to discuss, from the SAHN social media platforms, McCade also drops some words of wisdom, and talks about being kind to others. Episode 15 was a fun and easy episode to record. McCade spent the day shed hunting with Jeff Barlow, of Nimrod Outdoors, and his boy. Jeff found a nice single elk shed, while McCade ended up just hiking his guts out, as per usual! After a long day spent outdoors, they met up at the Barlow home in Emery County, and recorded their conversations. Jeff started Nimrod Outdoors, as a way to get more involved with his kids in the outdoors, and to share the adventures they have together! As a father of 7 kids, 6 boys and 1 girl, and living in the age of social media, he found it was a great way to connect with his growing children. Nimrod Outdoors has now expanded outside of the Barlow family, and includes 6 other fathers. With the expansion, they are getting more and more kids, who may not have an opportunity otherwise, involved in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. The name Nimrod, is derived from the Bible. Nimrod was known as a powerful man on earth, as well as a mighty hunter. As a religious man, a good father and husband, and a passionate outdoorsman, the name was a great fit, and the page Nimrod Outdoors was born! In one of their YouTube videos, Jeff’s oldest boy, Josh, shot a bull elk on a limited entry hunt in Utah. The bull ended up dying in a very challenging place to recover. Jeff recounts the “fun” memory of recovering the bull! Definitely go watch the video! Jacob, the second oldest Barlow bow, is a very talented baseball player! He loves hunting so much that he decided to quit baseball this year and spend more time on the mountain, shed hunting. Everyone knows that Jacob has incredible eyesight, and seems to ALWAYS be able to spot critters! Recently, little Joe, at 14 years old, was able to harvest his first turkey, and starts off the podcast by recounting his hunt. Also, go watch Joey’s first deer hunt on the Nimrod Outdoors Youtube Channel. His reaction is PRICELESS!!! Jace is turning 12 this year, and is very excited to hunt! The lonely daughter in the family, Maddy, makes her dad proud! She has her very own bow, and even asked for a BB Gun for Christmas. The two youngest boys watch hunting videos and participate in some outdoors adventures. Momma Nimrod also hunts, and with 20+ elk points, is looking forward to drawing a coveted Limited Entry Elk Tag in Utah soon! With some expected mule deer and elk tags, they want to be physically ready for the challenges associated with hunting these animals. We don't claim to be experts on the topics of nutrition, excercise, fitness, or anything else for that matter! We just know from experience, that the demands of the mountain are made much easier when you're healthy and fit! How do you prepare for hunting season? Colorado! Ian, Dillon, and McCade were fortunate enough to draw Colorado 3rd Season Mule Deer Buck Tags in 2017. They internet scouted their drawn unit, and Ian visited the area on several occasions throughout the year. In this episode, the trio sits down and recounts each day of this memorable hunt!
