The MMA Vivisection Shows: 'Main Card Preview' & 'Prelims Card Preview'
The UFC is back on PPV this week, and while UFC 287 isn't their strongest offering ever, it's a solid enough card with a few gems for fans. The main event features the quadrilogy bout between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, with just as many questions hanging over it as their first three meetings. The co-main between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal isn't nearly so compelling, but bouts for Adrian Yanez, Kevin Holland, and Raul Rosas Jr. should make for a strong event. The UFC 287 prelims have a couple notable highlights… much like the main card of this week's UFC 287 PPV event, the prelims are…fine, not great. A middleweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Chris Curtis is set for the feature prelim slot and looks like a strong crossroads bout for both men, but might also just be a slow-simmering staring match. Michelle Waterson and Gerald Meerschaert hope to slam the gates on upstart prospects, while Karl Williams looks to keep his train rolling. For those looking to dive deeper into the Main PPV card, check out the Main Card Vivi released today on the Bloody Elbow Podcast Network, and right here on Substack it is found in the ‘MMA Vivisection Shows Tab' at the top of the homepage. The Bloody Elbow MMA Vivisection Podcasts are listener-supported broadcasts. Hunter Campbell, the promotion's chief business officer, announced Friday in an email that all fighters that those who are still coached by Krause or still train at his gym will not be allowed to participate in UFC sanctioned events while the government completes its probe into James Krause. The ban of any fighter trained by James Krause comes in the wake of ongoing investigations on potential insider betting and suspicious line movements surrounding a November bout between Darrick Minner and Shayilan Nuerdanbieke at UFC Fight Night 214. Abnormal line activity was picked up hours before the fight, Darrick Minner who is coached by James Krause, quickly went down with an injury in the first round of the contest, which led many to believe he was injured entering the fight. Brendan breaks down the most recent UFC fight night and then previews this Saturday's star studded UFC 281 card including Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira and why he believes it would be disastrous for the division if Alex were to win, Dustin Poirier vs Michael Chandler and why he won't make an official pick between the two, Weili Zhang vs Carla Esparza and why if you're a Rose Namajunas fan you should be rooting for Weili, Frankie Edgar's retirement fight against Chris Gutierrez and why if you're not rooting for Edgar you can't call yourself an American, and Dan Hooker vs Claudio Puelles and why everything's on the line for Hooker this fight. He also speculates on the betting controversy surrounding Darrick Minner and Shayilan Nuerdanbieke and the potential involvement of Darrick's coach James Krause, does a deep dive on Mark Hunt's career in the wake of his boxing victory over previously undefeated Sonny Bill Williams who is 11 years Mark's junior, and makes the case for why Hunt is in fact the biggest gangster in all of MMA. Finally he responds to Jake Paul's justification for the lower than expected PPV numbers for his Anderson Silva fight, Paolo Costa calling out Jake Paul, and Polyana Viana's salacious claims about Colby Covington. Amanda Lemos had herself a night at the UFC APEX and delivered with the biggest performance of her career in the main event against Marina Rodriguez. As impressive as her victory was, did it put Lemos in a position where she is the new No. 1 contender at 115 pounds? On an all-new edition of On To the Next One, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Alexander K. Lee attempt to answer that question from a matchmaking perspective following Lemos' third-round TKO win over Rodriguez in the strawweight headliner. Additionally, future matchups are discussed for Neil Magny following his third-round submission win over Daniel Rodriguez in the co-main event, along with fellow main card finishers Shayilan Nuerdanbieke, Tagir Ulanbekov, Grant Dawson, and more in the aftermath of the promotion's go-home event heading into UFC 281. Bloody Elbow fight experts, Dayne Fox & Eddie Mercado, are here to breakdown the UFC Vegas 43 Fight Night event, which was broadcast from the APEX Center in Las Vegas, NV. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. The UFC showcased a Women's Bantamweight clash in the main event of UFC Vegas 43. We had the No. 7 ranked, Brazilian BJJ grappling phenom, Ketlen ‘Fenômeno' Vieira with a 12-1 record, entering the octagon to combat the returning No. 8 ranked, Miesha ‘2.0' Tate; a pioneer in Women's MMA — former Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion, former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion and former VP for ONE Championship. with a storied 19-7 career record. ‘Cupcake' returned March 24 this year, after over four years away and went right into the top ten. Vieira was originally scheduled to face Tate on October 16, 2021 at UFC Vegas 40. However, on September 22, the bout was pulled from the card when Tate tested positive for COVID-19. Tonight the five-round headlining match-up finally took place. Meanwhile, the co-main event featured veteran Michael ‘Maverick' Chiesa and up-and-comer Sean Brady, facing off in a Welterweight grappling master class. No. 13 ranked, Brady, who was listed on tapology tonight as being on a 19 fight win streak with a 14-0 official record was matched up with No. 6 ranked Chiesa, who possessed a 17-5 record heading into the bout, but was coming off a loss to Vicente Luque. Prior to the headlining bouts, we were graced with promising showdowns including, a Performance of the Night from Women's Flyweight, Brazilian Taila Santos over Muay Thai specialist, fight veteran, Joanne Wood (formerly Jojo Calderwood) with our only finish of the entire event. In our main card opener, we had our Fight of the Night occur between Bantamweights, Adrian Yanez, who was on a seven fight win streak, and the Brit, ‘Dangerous' Davey Grant. For much more detail on the main card and plenty of tidbits about the prelims, be sure to hit play on the show and hear what our fight experts have to say about the event tonight! Overall, this now 11-bout card saw 1 1st Rd finish, 1 sub, & 10 decisions, one split. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Taila Santos; FOTN honors went to Davey Grant vs. Adrian Yanez.
