In this episode, Dan Lust is joined by Evan Mattel and Matt Tympanick to discuss breaking issues in the world of Sports Law. Jeff Molina is a UFC fighter who was suspended due to involvement with a betting scandal created by a former UFC coach, James Krause. (8:06) Providing an update to the story, the UFC officially suspended Molina after completing the investigation into the betting scheme led by Krause. The betting scheme came to light because it seemed that Krause, as a coach in the UFC, used inside information to recommend bets. Jaden Rashada's NIL deal in Florida. (11:47) Jaden Reshada is one of the top high school quarterbacks in the country. There were reports that he was trying to decide between the University of Miami and the University of Florida. Rashada chose Florida following a NIL contract that was signed with the University of Florida collective. On December 7th, the CEO of the collective sent a termination letter regarding the contract. The NIL deal reportedly changed from eight figures to seven figures. Rusty Hardin is being sued for legal malpractice in relation to his representation of a sports agent Ben Dogra. (21:03) Dogra previously worked at CAA and upon leaving the company sued for unearned wages. Dogra retained Hardin at a fee of $1.575 million. Jeff Molina is a UFC fighter who was suspended due to involvement with a betting scandal created by a former UFC coach, James Krause. (8:06) Providing an update to the story, the UFC officially suspended Molina after completing the investigation into the betting scheme led by Krause. The betting scheme came to light because it seemed that Krause, as a coach in the UFC, used inside information to recommend bets. Jaden Rashada's NIL deal in Florida. (11:47) Jaden Reshada is one of the top high school quarterbacks in the country. There were reports that he was trying to decide between the University of Miami and the University of Florida. Rashada chose Florida following a NIL contract that was signed with the University of Florida collective. On December 7th, the CEO of the collective sent a termination letter regarding the contract. The NIL deal reportedly changed from eight figures to seven figures. Rusty Hardin is being sued for legal malpractice in relation to his representation of a sports agent Ben Dogra. (21:03) Dogra previously worked at CAA and upon leaving the company sued for unearned wages. Dogra retained Hardin at a fee of $1.575 million. Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are BACK tonight – Sat, Oct 23rd, to breakdown the UFC Vegas 41 ‘Paulo Costa vs. Marvin Vettori' event. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. (SPOILERS...) This afternoon the UFC brought us yet another (the 9th in a row actually) Fight Night card from the smaller octagon at the APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, airing LIVE on ESPN+. The UFC Vegas 41 event showcased top-ranked MW Championship foes, Paulo ‘The Eraser' Costa, (No. 2), & ‘The Italian Dream' Marvin Vettori, (No. 5). Neither combatant had fought since their defeats at the hands of Israel Adesanya at UFC 263 & UFC 253, respectively. The main event contest became a 205lbs catchweight/LHW bout just a few days ago, when “The Eraser” failed to make weight. This brawl became an instant classic. Costa was warned about his hands more than once & had a point removed for an early eye-poke in the 2nd Rd. We got a solid 5 rds of action, pressure, blows, strikes & aggression from both men. After all of that, the judges decided Vettori was the unanimous victor, it was close, but this felt like the right call. Prior to that, our LW Co-Main event today had Grant ‘KGD' Dawson enter the Octagon on an 8-fight win streak against Rick/y ‘The Gladiator' Glenn. In a solid back-n-forth effort from both men, it went the distance resulting in the judges deciding on a Majority Draw, which is always a major bummer for everyone involved. On the 8-fight prelims card, our featured prelim won FOTN for the overall event -- Gregory Rodrigues proved victorious with a standing TKO via punches in the 2nd Rd over Jun Yong Park. Gregory hit Park with gigantic right hands, rocking him & sending him stumbling, took advantage of his foes weakness, followed it all up with a massive uppercut which put him to sleep standing. Also, in our 4th bout of the night, we had Jai ‘The Black Country Banger' Herbert strike the crap out of Khama ‘The Death Star' Worthy over the course of about 2+1/2 mins or so - 1st Rd stoppage. Overall, this massive 14-bout card saw 2 1st Rd finishes, 4 KO/TKO's, 1 sub, & 8 decisions, 1 split. Plus, 1 majority draw. Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado are back tonight, Saturday, April 24th., 2021, to breakdown the ‘UFC 261 - ‘USMAN VS MASVIDAL 2’ event, featuring three title fights, which was broadcast from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, Jacksonville, Florida; with our first live full capacity crowd since the COVID-19 shutdown last year. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event in the player above, or on our Bloody Elbow Presents YouTube Channel and BE Presents Podcast Network. (SPOILERS...) The reigning UFC Welterweight Champion, Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman, was entering the bout with a remarkable 18-1 record, on a 19-bout win streak – Having last fought and defeated Gilbert Burns by technical knockout back in Feb of this year. Masvidal, currently holding the ‘BMF’ Championship belt, after defeating Nate Diaz for it at UFC 244, was holding an impressive 35-14 record when he entered the octagon tonight – coming off his last loss to Usman; having not competed since that first face off between them at UFC 251. Tonight, the “Baddest Mother F*cker”, was defeated handily a 2nd time around by Usman. In the co-main event, we had a brief battle for the Women’s UFC Strawweight Title between Champion Weili ‘Magnum’ Zhang and Top Contender ‘Thug Rose’ Namajunas. Weili was on an unprecedented 21-fight win streak. Namajunas was coming off a win to Jéssica Andrade. Rose did not fail to impress us with a shocking & dominant 1:18 1st Rd finish, via KO/TKO, Head Kick. Also on the card, an exciting 3rd title fight for the Women’s UFC Flyweight Championship between the undisputed reigning Champion, Valentina ‘Bullet’ Shevchenko, and her contender, Jéssica ‘Bate Estaca’ Andrade (aka: ‘Pile Driver’). Shevchenko was on a 6-fight win streak with a storied 20-3 career record; while Andrade was sporting a 21-8 record. Shevchenko added to her win streak with another KO/TKO victory, this time with bloody elbows from Crucifix at just 3:19 of Round 2! These bouts were preceded by a wicked freak injury to Chris Weidman when he threw a devastating leg kick to Uriah Hall.
