Sean Strickland. And Again. Once again in the familiar spot of being a massive underdog in a middleweight title fight, Strickland outlasted Khamzat Chimaev to win a split decision and claim the championship for a second time in the main event of UFC 328 on Saturday. Strickland now has a handful of options for his next challenger—including a potential rematch with Chimaev—so who gets their shot at the surefire UFC Hall of Fame inductee? And what in the world do we do with Chimaev after that bizarre performance? On an all-new edition of On To the Next One, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Alexander K. Lee discuss who should fight Strickland first in his second UFC title reign and whether Chimaev is going to move up to 205 pounds or stay put at 185. Additionally, future matchups are discussed for Joshua Van coming off of his first successful title defense over Tatsuro Taira, where Taira goes from here, plus main card standouts Alexander Volkov, Sean Brady, and King Green, and more. Uncanny Japan - Exploring Japanese Myths, Folktales, Superstitions, History and Language
A vengeful princess rides a giant toad into battle while a monstrous skeleton tears through castle walls — and these two legends are connected in ways you might not expect. In this episode, I dig into the story of Takiyasha Hime, daughter of the infamous Taira no Masakado, and the terrifying Gashadokuro. How did a princess become a sorceress? What kind of magic involves frogs? And is that famous skeleton in Kuniyoshi's print really what everyone thinks it is? I even found the actual spell she used to summon the skeleton. Should I read it aloud? [Please Note: Some of the links are affiliate links (both Amazon and other). Jim and Matt open the show with lightweight finisher Jalin Turner, who joins ahead of his return against Edson Barboza at UFC 323. Turner explains how training with Ian Machado Garry and reconnecting with his faith pulled him out of a brief retirement, helping him rediscover balance, purpose, and confidence. He also discusses studying the sport differently, and what he expects when he steps in with a tricky veteran striker like Barboza. The guys then shift into their UFC 323 predictions, breaking down a stacked card — from Merab Dvalishvili's push for a historic fourth title defense of the year to Pantoja vs. Van, Moreno vs. Taira and more!Later, former light heavyweight champion Jan Błachowicz checks in to talk about making one more run at 205, how he views the danger posed by surging finisher Bogdan Guskov, and what “Legendary Polish Power” looks like in this stage of his career. Finally, Jim and Matt close out the episode with deeper analysis on some of the remaining UFC 323 matchups.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A Nash Holos Feature Interview with Nick Buderatsky, a patriotic Ukrainian volunteer who was mentored by legendary combat medic Taira and went on to become a civilian paramedic working on Ukraine's front lines, including Avdiivka and Irpin. I met Nick back in 2015 when he took me to visit a Donetsk airport Cyborg in a military hospital in Kyiv. Brian Campbell and Luke Thomas are live in studio to talk UFC Vegas 108 and much more! Flyweight contender Tasuro Taira rebounded from his first career defeat to easily finish unbeaten South Korean Hyun-Sung Park. What did this performance say about the 25-year-old Japanese prospect's standing as a future threat to the UFC 125-pound title? Back-to-back main card bouts on Saturday in the 155-pound division produced incredible TV bangers as Esteban Ribovics decisioned Elves Brener and Chris Duncan outlasted Mateusz Rebecki. Both bouts shared FIGHT OF THE NIGHT honors. Which fight was better and does either one belong in the 2025 fight of the year discussion as we kick off the second half of the year? Plus, Thad Jean continued his breakout 2025 campaign by winning the welterweight tournament, $500K and gaining entry into PFL's Champions League. BC and LT recap PFL 8. Happy Morning Kombat Monday, Donks!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
UFC Vegas 108 delivered a lot of action — especially on the main card, but it was the final three bouts of the UFC's return to the APEX that will steal headlines for the next few days. In the main event, Tatsuro Taira destroyed Hyun Sung Park with relative ease via second-round submission to bounce back from his lone career loss. Following the event, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Jed Meshew react to the card, Taira's spectacular performance, his post-fight interview getting awkward with Michael Bisping, and if he could get a title shot next. Additionally, they discuss the two Fight of the Year contending lightweight bouts between Chris Duncan and Mateusz Rebecki, and Esteban Ribovics and Elves Brener, other standout performances from the Fight Night event, and much more. Uncanny Japan - Exploring Japanese Myths, Folktales, Superstitions, History and Language
Ever wonder who Japan's first samurai was? Or whether severed heads can actually fly? This episode has both answers in the incredible story of Taira no Masakado - a legendary 10th-century warrior who became one of Japan's Three Great Vengeful Spirits. Discover the supernatural tale of his severed head that refused to decay, the three months it spent on display in Kyoto's marketplace, and its legendary flight back to what would become Tokyo. Learn about the cursed head mound that still stands today, the mysterious deaths that plagued anyone who dared disturb it, and why frogs have become sacred symbols at his shrine.
