The MMA Vivisection Shows: 'Main Card Preview' & 'Prelims Card Preview'
The UFC is back on PPV this week, and while UFC 287 isn't their strongest offering ever, it's a solid enough card with a few gems for fans. The main event features the quadrilogy bout between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, with just as many questions hanging over it as their first three meetings. The co-main between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal isn't nearly so compelling, but bouts for Adrian Yanez, Kevin Holland, and Raul Rosas Jr. should make for a strong event. The UFC 287 prelims have a couple notable highlights… much like the main card of this week's UFC 287 PPV event, the prelims are…fine, not great. A middleweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Chris Curtis is set for the feature prelim slot and looks like a strong crossroads bout for both men, but might also just be a slow-simmering staring match. Michelle Waterson and Gerald Meerschaert hope to slam the gates on upstart prospects, while Karl Williams looks to keep his train rolling. For those looking to dive deeper into the Main PPV card, check out the Main Card Vivi released today on the Bloody Elbow Podcast Network, and right here on Substack it is found in the ‘MMA Vivisection Shows Tab' at the top of the homepage. The Bloody Elbow MMA Vivisection Podcasts are listener-supported broadcasts. Peter Mandelson once said, I’m a fighter, not a quitter. Diego Sanchez once said, if I give up now, I still get the 100k win bonus though right? On this episode of Slip The Jab we debate whether or not Diego Sanchez should be labeled a quitter, if his legendary status earns him a pass, and release our STJ poll results, showing what our fans and followers think about him now as well. We recap UFC Rio Rancho, give away the annoying person of the week award, AKA the A-POT-W, preview Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 2, and answer fan questions from all you lovely savages. Lino says Ryan Garcia has the best lead left hook he's ever seen and Ian "Slips The Spoken Word". The Red dragon takes on Dan Hooker, Conor McGregor cheats with a crack head hooker (allegedly) and we give thanks that our podcast is protected by an LLC. We also give our Slip Picks for the fights this weekend and remind everyone about the Eric Challenge. Once again, a hysterical episode you don't want to miss!
In this episode we discuss Anderson vs Blachowicz at UFC Rio Rancho, Jon Jones and the Light Heavyweight title picture, the Heavyweight rankings, Diego Sanchez, Paul Felder's handshake habits and we make our picks for UFC Auckland.

Eddie Mercado & Dayne Fox are here to breakdown UFC on ESPN+ 25/Fight Night 167/UFC Rio Rancho with hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. This Saturday’s, Feb 15. 25th., UFC Fight Night event, from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, featured Corey 'Overtime' Anderson #6 Ranked Light Heavyweight entering the octagon tonight on a four-fight win streak for this highly anticipated rematch, but subsequently breaking that streak when he was swiftly defeated by the Polish champion, Jan Blachowicz, at just 3:08 of Round 1 of 5 via KO/TKO-Right Hook, leaving Jan with a new record showing three wins in a row now; thus turning the tables in their second face-off, as Corey was the victor in their prior match-up on Sept. 5, 2015; also on the card, was a disappointing co-main event showcasing the more experienced Lightweight, Diego 'Nightmare' Sanchez, who was the declared the winner via Disqualification, thanks to our second illegal knee tonight, which was thrown by Michel Pereira at 3:09 of Round 3; our first Disqualification via Illegal Knee occurred at 4:02 of Round 1 between Brok Weaver and Rodrigo Vargas, Weaver leaving the octagon declared the victor in that bout -- the undercard also brought us an exciting featured bout between Daniel Rodriquez defeating Tim Means, by wrapping it all up at 3:37 of Round 2 with a Sub via Standing Guillotine Choke, but more than anything — the fight to catch on the undercard was Scott 'Hot Sauce' Holtzman vs Jim 'A-10' Miller, they came away with Fight of the Night, in a brawl that went to the judges scorecard, ending in Holtzman walking away with a Unanimous Decision; overall, we had quite a night of fights with a few decent finishes to discuss with you... Shaun and Chuck recap a strange night of fights from this past weekend at UFC Rio Rancho and discuss Jan Blachowicz's vicious first round KO of Corey Anderson, if this was the best case scenario for Jan's title aspirations, with Jon Jones sitting cageside, and if the outcome of this fight has diminished the odds of Dominick Reyes getting his championship rematch with Jones. Then, the guys talk about the Diego Sanchez-Michel Pereira co-main event, the controversial ending involving “The Nightmare” seemingly angling for a DQ win after Pereira landed a clearly-illegal knee in the third round of a fight he was winning, Josh Fabia's questionable corner advice, and if Michel Pereira is in danger of a UFC release anytime soon. Plus, a discussion about a recent report in the New York Post that the UFC only paid its fighters 16% of $900 million in total revenue last year, a paltry sum compared to MLB, NBA, or NFL standards, which pay out 48-50% of revenues to their players. And, the guys close out the show by determining which hypothetical fight is most likely to happen and which is worse: Henry Cejudo vs. Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC Featherweight title or Israel Adesanya vs. Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight title.
