The conversation centers on the recent “We Are Not a Monolith” statement issued by Latino pastors, scholars, and ministry leaders calling for greater nuance and accountability in how Latino Christians are represented in national media. Calvillo explains why many faith leaders believe Rodriguez has come to function less as an advocate for vulnerable immigrant communities and more as a defender of Trump-era immigration policies and conservative political networks. En el marco de Change Now, importante congreso consagrado a soluciones para el medio ambiente y que tiene lugar cada año en París a fines de marzo, la joven mexicana Xananine Calvillo participó y explicó su combate para preservar el saber tradicional de sus raíces autóctonas del Valle de Tehuacán. Ella forma parte de Re.Generation Future Leaders Program, auspiciado por la Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco. Por Ivonne Sánchez Xananine Calvillo es una joven ecologista, del Valle de Tehuacán en el estado de Puebla, ubicado en el altiplano central de México. Su colectivo se llama Jna Tsjo, que quiere decir "Cerro de la Flor".  Ella milita por una justicia climática que tome en cuenta también la preservación de la cultura autóctona a la que pertenece, la cultura Ngiwa, una minoría cuya lengua está en peligro de extinción. En Belém, los delegados de la COP30 tienen plazo hasta el viernes para negociar un acuerdo ambicioso contra el cambio climático, pero la sombra del cabildeo vuelve a cernirse sobre la cumbre con la presencia de un número récord: 1.600 representantes del sector de los hidrocarburos. Informe de nuestro enviado especial a Bélem, Raphael Moran. El sector agrícola es responsable de al menos un tercio de las emisiones de CO₂ en el mundo. A pesar de ello, cientos de cabilderos de la agroindustria defienden sus intereses en los pasillos de la COP30 en Belém. A diez minutos del recinto de Naciones Unidas, donde delegados de todo el mundo negocian el futuro climático del planeta, transnacionales del sector agroindustrial como Bayer o el sindicato brasileño del agronegocio CNA se pintan de verde y prometen una agricultura sostenible mediante spots, charlas y degustaciones. Según el medio de investigación brasileño The Intercept, varias empresas implicadas en escándalos ambientales —como JBS, Vale o la transnacional del aluminio Hydro— patrocinan a medios brasileños a cambio de una cobertura favorable durante la COP30. Organizaciones de la sociedad civil denuncian la cantidad inédita de miembros de grupos de presión, en particular de los combustibles fósiles. "Hay 300 delegados que representan a las grandes industrias de la agricultura y la ganadería aquí en la COP30", señala Xananine Calvillo, activista indígena Ngiwa de México. "Esto representa un aumento del 14 % respecto a la conferencia del año pasado. Y muchos de ellos, el 25 %, participan en las negociaciones con acreditaciones expedidas por los Estados que representan. Es decir, están entrando a las negociaciones, algo que los pueblos indígenas no podemos hacer". ¿Quiénes les pagan?  Calvillo exige también más transparencia sobre los intereses de los participantes en las cumbres climáticas: "Para esto de los lobistas hay una campaña que busca esa transparencia, pidiendo que ellos digan quiénes son y por quiénes están siendo pagados". Naciones Unidas, organizadora de las cumbres climáticas, propone —pero no obliga— que los participantes de las COP indiquen su eventual afiliación a intereses corporativos. Esta declaratoria no incluye a los empresarios acreditados por delegaciones oficiales. Francia acreditó, por ejemplo, al presidente de la transnacional petrolera TotalEnergies. La sombra del cabildeo planea sobre las COP desde hace varios años. En 2018, un alto cargo de la petrolera Shell celebró que sus propuestas para la creación de mercados de carbono figuraran en el artículo 6 del Acuerdo de París.

Welcome back to another episode of Let's Taco About It and this week we bring back a conversation we were lucky enough to have with non other than UFC fighter Cynthia Calvillo! This episode was recorded back on May 29th or 2021.

In this episode we're joined by Jesse Calvillo, a content creator who makes comedic skits on social media often with his family. Jesse shares on his journey with addiction, being a self proclaimed "try everything at once" kind of guy which eventually spiralled down a path of heroin addiction. He openly shares on his escapades, from entering rehab and only learning it was better to shoot up heroin than smoke it, getting into trouble with the law to overdosing and crashing his mother's car on an abandoned highway, he was left with the choice of jail or entering a sobriety program. Whilst the program was challenging and incredibly strict, including spending several days in jail for failed drug tests, Jesse completed the 18 month program and stayed off heroin for good, despite it being in his words the best feeling he's ever experienced, with help and support getting involved in AA and completing the steps. He elaborates on his journey with sobriety, having a good level of conscious self awareness to keep an eye on his participating in taking substances is potentially a gateway back to the needle. Jesse and Will reflect on their past being creators on the original video app Vine, creating comedic content with his family contributing to a deeper bond with his brothers. He talks on his struggles with physical therapy and social anxiety and taking life one day at a time and being strong for yourself despite his physical limitations. The UFC is back on PPV this week, and while UFC 287 isn't their strongest offering ever, it's a solid enough card with a few gems for fans. The main event features the quadrilogy bout between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, with just as many questions hanging over it as their first three meetings. “The UFC is back on PPV this week, and while UFC 287 isn't their strongest offering ever, it's a solid enough card with a few gems for fans. The main event features the quadrilogy bout between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, with just as many questions hanging over it as their first three meetings.
