Whether it's recovery, business, or just becoming a better human, he sees guidance as a lifeline. Liz? Not so much. Enter email marketing, an age-old tool that's as effective today as ever.Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Email Marketing for Podcasters01:36 The Power of Email Marketing03:10 Common Misconceptions and Challenges of Podcasters06:33 Effective Newsletter Formats for Podcast Hosts09:57 Creating Consistent and Engaging Content 17:36 Tools and Strategies for Success for Podcast Hosts19:33 Conclusion and Special OfferThe Hidden Gem in Podcast MarketingMany podcasters shy away from email marketing, overthinking its complexities and harboring misconceptions about what a successful newsletter entails. But here's the truth: email marketing can drastically increase your chances of monetization and help grow your podcast audience. I've tested the strategies I'm about to share not only for my brand, The Podcast Space, but also for my clients who have longed to start a newsletter but felt defeated by the dreaded "empty page syndrome."Why Email Marketing MattersDid you know email marketing offers one of the best returns on investment? For every dollar you spend, you're likely to gain $36 back. That's a staggering 3600% ROI! Despite being one of the oldest marketing tools, it's highly effective in connecting with audiences and driving sales. One of the biggest advantages for brands is its trackability, which can be murkier in the podcasting realm. The Power of ConnectionFor podcasters, newsletters offer a level of intimacy and directness that social media often cannot. Unlike the noise on social media feeds, where only about 1-4% of your audience sees your content, emails land directly in your subscribers' inboxes, offering a distraction-free way to engage with your content. This direct line to your audience is invaluable.Resources mentioned in this episode:Let's work together to grow your podcast. As the host of The Podcast Space, I've seen firsthand what makes podcasts soar to success. It's not just about consistently releasing content or maintaining high quality—it's about having a (bold) vision, pushing the envelope, and ensuring you're not navigating this journey alone. That's where a podcast content strategist comes into play. What is a Podcast Content Strategist?A common misconception is that podcast strategists are interchangeable with podcast producers or editors. However, these roles are distinct. While an editor hones in on the technical aspects and aesthetics of audio and written content, a strategist takes a comprehensive, data-driven approach to ensuring the content aligns with your brand, audience, goals, and market trends.Understanding Your Demographics: The Key to Podcast SuccessA podcast strategist delves deep into the analytics of your podcast, examining your data, demographics, and audience behavior. Whether you're launching a new podcast or hoping to reinvigorate an existing one, understanding your audience through analytics is essential, guiding decisions on content format, length, and themes.Chapters:01:22 Role of a Podcast Strategist03:14 Data-Driven Podcast Strategies05:36 Maximizing ROI and Listener Engagement07:48 Effective Marketing and Platform Optimization09:58 Reviewing Marketing Actions and Accessibility11:34 Content Mismatch in Podcasting13:12 The Role of a Podcast Strategist13:32 Navigating Podcast Platforms and Tools14:01 Best Practices for YouTube Podcasts15:55 Monetizing Your Podcast Effectively17:06 Leveraging Expertise Over Volume19:09 Crafting a Unique Podcast Strategy19:47 Conclusion and Next StepsResources mentioned in this episode:Let's work together to grow your podcast:https://bit.ly/PPodPartyFor the full list of links, resources and show notes, please visit:https://www.thepodcastspace.com/podcast/s2-82-what-is-a-podcast-content-strategist-and-why-does-your-podcast-need-oneSubscribe to the Podcast on Audio Platforms: https://bit.ly/3Y4bF2c Subscribe to our newsletter for more Podcast Tips: https://thepodcastspace.ck.page/32680fa82e

In this joint podcast episode with Vicars' Crossing and Future Christian, Kevin, Rob and Martha talk about why as busy pastors leading churches they carve out time to be part of hosting podcasts. What are the conversations that the church needs to be having? What has been difficult for the church to talk about? What do we see as the value of making time and space for conversations with different voices from a variety of perspectives figuring our leadership in our churches today? What do we hope to offer the church on Vicars' Crossing and Future Christian, and what have we been learning in the process? Vicars' Crossing is a theological and church leadership podcast cohosted by Anglican priests Kevin George and Rob Henderson.  Rob Henderson currently serves as rector of Holy Trinity St. Stephen's Memorial Anglican Church in Ontario.  His previous parishes have been in the town of Essex and the city of Windsor. Before his ordination in 2008, Rob worked in radio broadcasting in Chatham and Leamington. He has been co-hosting the Vicars Crossing podcast with his friend and colleague Kevin George since 2019. Rob is married to wife Margie and has 2 boys.   Kevin George was ordained in 1997 in the diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador, and has been a priest in the diocese of Huron since 1998. Kevin has served in the Parish of Labrador West, NL; St Marks by-the-Lake Tecumseh, ON; and is currently the Rector of St Aidan's Church London, ON. Kevin earned a Bachelor in Education degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, a Master of Divinity Degree from Huron University, and a Doctorate in Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary. His thesis research was focused on faithful baptismal response in interfaith settings. Kevin is married to Catherinanne, who is the Director of Campus Ministry at Brescia University, and a chaplain in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. Kevin is a loyal Habs fan, prays for the return of Les Expos, and has learned what suffering looks like from being introduced to the Detroit Lions by Rob! Kevin is an avid reader, loves being involved in the community, and enjoys an appropriate adult beverage with friends. So in this episode of The Podcast Space, I invited Yesenia Bocanegra, host of the Focus and Bloom podcast to dive into the concept of fostering community through podcasts and the ripple effects of even the smallest actions. Yesenia shares her personal journey of overcoming limiting beliefs and the power of authenticity in content creation. Mastering the Art of Podcast Growth: Secrets to Extraordinary Success during SabbaticalsA sabbatical - an extended break or hiatus - is a concept most of us are familiar with. In academia, it's a well-established practice. In the corporate world, it's gaining recognition. But have you ever thought about taking a sabbatical from your podcast? In this podcast episode, I'm sharing my recent experience of taking a 5-week sabbatical from my podcast and business. I'll be updating you on the unexpected journey, the lessons learned, and tips for other podcasters considering a break. I'll also break down how I prepared for my time away, and how I took my knowledge in content strategy and listener behavior to craft a plan that worked for my podcast while I was gone. Embarking on a Podcast SabbaticalMy sabbatical was an opportunity to reconnect with myself, friends and family, taking time from the week-to-week rut of publishing podcast content, but also to think bigger picture about what truly lights me up.By scaling back on social media and emails, I've opted for a "post and ghost" strategy, expecting it to be a viable option to provide educational content to my audience while I was away. However, this tactic confirmed what I expected, causing a noticeable decrease in my social media reach, especially on Instagram. Engagement matters, and if you're planning a sabbatical, consider how you'll maintain audience interaction- in my case, Instagram will be off the books. The Unexpected Surge in Podcast PopularityWhile away, I've noticed something unusual. My podcast downloads surged by a staggering 1200% over the month, catapulting The Podcast Space into the top 15 Marketing charts in Portugal and Sweden. Initially, I've suspected bot activity but realized that this unexpected popularity had more to it - at least in the organic aspect of it. The engagement on Spotify and Apple Podcasts also grew, and I've received several positive messages from listeners, revealing that the content was being appreciated and consumed heavily even during my absence. My sabbatical proved that taking a break doesn't necessarily mean losing your audience or your business momentum. Instead, it can result in unexpected benefits, like a surprising surge in podcast popularity or listener appreciation.Planning for a Podcast SabbaticalA sabbatical doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing proposition. There are three types of sabbaticals: one where you do absolutely nothing, one where you focus on learning something new, and a hybrid of both.During my break, I chose the hybrid approach, taking the time to upskill by reading and learning new things, speaking a few different languages (I'm multilingual after all) while also disconnecting from work. The Aftermath of a Podcast SabbaticalIn conclusion, a podcast sabbatical, when planned and executed correctly, can be a beneficial move. Not only can it provide the much-needed break for the host, but it can also lead to unexpected growth and engagement for the podcast. If you're considering a sabbatical, this podcast episode is a must-listen, packed with practical insights, personal experiences, and invaluable tips to ensure your podcast doesn't just survive your break, but thrives.Full resources mentioned in this episode: Let's work together to grow your podcast:https://bit.ly/PPodPartyhttps://thepodcastspace.com/podcast/34-a-1200-download-increase-listener-engagement-wins-sabbaticalFeeling stuck? The ebbs and flows of the journey of a content creatorWhat happens behind the lens and microphone of a content creator? A lot.Being a creator and podcaster today can mean a variety of things. But how do you figure out what works for you, and how long to do it for until it's time to switch it up?Lloyd George is a content creator by night & project manager by day. His company Cre8tor Hub helps content creators start, manage and grow their podcast. I first met Lloyd after scrolling through TikTok and stumbling (and obsessing about his) incredible videos about his podcast journey. Since January 2022, he's accumulated over 1.5 million views and has continued building a community of aspiring podcasters through tips, giveaways, and resourceful content for beginners. Lloyd started dabbing into the podcasting world in 2018, and I've invited him on the show so that he could share his experience of starting a podcast and how it has increased his confidence not only in the podcasting world but in his personal life as well. No one says, 'if you're not going to be a multi-book author, don't write.'(Podcasting) is a creative journey of exploration, and the more you do it, you'll find out if you like it and not, but you'll never know if you never try. Lloyd GeorgeIt's all about Mindset and CommunityMindset can be limiting, or freeing, and so Lloyd and I also dived into the scarcity mindset that many creators have (especially podcasters!) and how instead of viewing other creators as competition, you can support and share their content or use it as a starting point for your own episode. Spoiler alert: we're stronger together!Lloyd and I share our love for creating community through authentic content, and this episode ended up being more of a conversation of two creators who ‘met' (virtually) after months of following and admiring each other's work online, so I also ended up unveiling a lot of my own process of The Podcast Space's online strategy, building a Membership, a course, and allowing myself to figure it out as I go. We speak about the ups and downs of the content creation journey and the importance of being part of a community in order to stay motivated in the long run.We also focus on the importance of making small tweaks to your content creation process, which can have a big impact on your podcast: Lloyd shares how tweaking his podcast flow almost doubled his episode downloads. And what you need to know in order to create content that performs well on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and more.Topics discussed in this episode:Podcast processThe journey of the content creatorPodcast content strategyLimiting beliefs as a podcasterHow to start your journey in podcastingTakeaways from this episode:Try new things regularly: Try new things every 2 weeks to keep your content fresh and interesting. This can lead to finding a new approach that works better for you and your audience.Optimize your content: Optimize your content for the platform you have chosen to focus on, for example, for YouTube, use keywords in the title and tags, have an attention-grabbing thumbnail, and upload from your desktop to increase likelihood of success.Be part of a community: Being part of a supportive community can help you overcome challenges and stay motivated. Support other creators and use their content as a starting point for your own ideas.Make an impact: Instead of trying to produce the perfect piece of content, focus on making an impact and getting someone to think....
