Katherine Waterston is one of our most brilliant and committed actors. She brings superstar power to indies like “Queen of Earth” and “State Like Sleep,” and a captivating authenticity to franchises like “Fantastic Beasts” and “Alien.” It was “Inherent Vice” that first brought her to my attention. In this episode, she talks about why she was “a pig in shit” making that film, why having lots and lots of time to live with a script is ideal for her, becoming "comfortable being uncomfortable," the “best feeling I can experience without breaking the law,” and her exciting new multi-part project “The Third Day,” starting September 14th on HBO. Meredith Danluck started her career as a visual artist. She soon moved into directing, starting with music videos and now feature films. Thanks to female directors like Kathryn Bigelow, Danluck knew it was possible to make it in a predominantly man’s world. Her latest film, ‘State Like Sleep’ stars Katherine Waterson, Luke Evans, and Michael Shannon. The plot follows a woman grappling with the consequences of her celebrity husband's double life after he commits suicide. In this interview, Danluck tells fans that millions of dollars isn’t necessary to make a film if the team stands behind the project. We also discuss transitioning careers, the benefits of note cards, keeping a low overhead as an artist, and the importance of fleshing out supporting characters. We're getting waist-deep in the surreal and creepy with a little mystery solving in the film STATE LIKE SLEEP, a little raw-nerve manipulation in Hulu's INTO THE DARK, and get a little... okay, a LOT... actually just COMPLETELY INSANE with Netflix's BLACK MIRROR: BANDERSNATCH!

For the last episode of 2018, I present to you a delightful conversation with filmmaker Meredith Danluck. Her latest film is STATE LIKE SLEEP, starring two of my favorite actors working today: Katherine Waterston and Michael Shannon. The story surrounds grief with a central mystery about a widow trying to uncover secrets from her husband's past. Meredith was kind enough to talk for 20 minutes about her process, influences, and what it's like directing great talent while keeping it all together. The film opens this Friday, January 4th on VOD so please do seek it out. Happy New Year to all and see you next year! 00:00 - 12:59 - Introduction / 2018 Reflection 13:00 - 36:50 - Interview With Meredith Danluck For more about Meredith: https://www.freethebid.com/directors/meredith-danluck/
