James & Kevin take you into the world of trailers, where they dissect, speculate, and ultimately rate teasers, trailers and more! Also, James has a sick Patrick Warburton impression.
Oh, ya thought we'd leave without saying goodbye?! NOT ON KEVIN'S WATCH. The boys return with their long overdue farewell to provide context for why the show ended, one last parting story, and their final thank you's. If you should have been included in those thank you's and haven't been... sincere apologies! We'll shout ya out on socials and such. Speaking of, we were meaning to look at the Trailer Hitch email one last time, but we unfortunately... can't get into it? Either we've forgotten the password or we've been hacked. Either way, if we ask you to donate gift cards to us, DON'T TRUST IT. We love ya, we miss ya, and we Double Need to See ya.
After lobbing some curses at The Tragedy of Macbeth, the boys cram as many Chappie references as possible into their review of Finch, and try not to take the vilification of the Green Bay Packers personally in American Underdog. The Tragedy of Macbeth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZcLLAx30Pw Finch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0bYWnP3jH4 American Underdog https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OyATVvN9oQ
After a brief delay, the boys find time for No Time to Die once more, try to find a new joke for the Doc Oc meme with Spider-Man: No Way Home, get lost in their dresses while talking about Spencer, and lament they weren't to bring Lazarus on as a guest to talk about The Matrix Resurrections. No Time to Die https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_gD9-Oa0fg Spider-Man: No Way Home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt-2cxAiPJk&feature=youtu.be Spencer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUnsoxe7K4g The Matrix Resurrections https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ix7TUGVYIo
James & Kevin wonder if the Eternals will last before looking back at the trailer for The Green Knight having seen the movie, marveling at how much that thing spoils in retrospect even though they didn't feel that way while watching the movie. After a hearty head's off to The Green Knight, they put a couple glocks in their pocket and go Free Guy.
Greetings from the past! The boys record early so Kevin can get an experimental procedure in Guam, but they still manage to get a review of Ghostbusters Afterlife in there. They also take a look back at The Mitchells vs. The Machines, seeing if their initial criticism of the trailer seeming to give too much away holds merit, and get In the Heights since they need the vantage point to keep track of all the characters. Ghostbusters Afterlife https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaG_5ZZ2PyM The Mitchells vs. The Machines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ak5dFt8Ar0 In the Heights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0CL-ZSuCrQ
The aftermath of the Bucks Championship win reverberates through this episode, whether it be in sudden basketball references or Kevin's hangover. But there's also something to celebrate within the episode itself... and that's trailers, baby. The boys give their first impressions of The Last Duel, paint the town red with their opinions on Turning Red, manage to only make one Euphoria reference while looking at Dune again, decide if Malignant is benign, and get in the shopping cart one last time for Jackass Forever. The Last Duel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgygUwPJvYk Turning Red https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3p9xw9rPLE Dune https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g18jFHCLXk Malignant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gczt0fhawDs Jackass Forever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j61KACwuAjM
After some culotte adorned rest and relaxation, James & Kevin return -- recording in person! -- to review trailers, figuring things probably wouldn't be too crazy while they were gone. QUITE THE CONTRARY. They hit the ground running, Courtesy Honking enough to sound like a car alarm, passing out free thoughts on Free Guy, getting down on one knee for Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, winking at The Eyes of Tammy Faye, blow up Tick Tick Boom's spot, decide if Halloween Kills is where they wanna be, fall off of a Clifford the Big Red Dog trailer, be enchanted by Encanto, and try to figure out if the big exit sign has anything to do with getting out of Escape Room 2. Which is quite a bit! So the boys decide to take a breather-- QUITE THE CONTRARY. They hop on a plane and head to Cannes, eager to check out this year's crop of movies from around the world, and dunk on any film that had the audacity to show up without a trailer (not even a clip, Sean Penn?! CHRIST.) Who will win the coveted Palm Door from Trailer Hitch this year? Will Wes Anderson take offense if the boys tell him his movie was better when it was a two and a half minute montage? Have they gotten any closer to figuring out what the hell is going on in Annette, or why it absolutely slaps? Join them in France to find out! The boys are going on vacation! But, before they don the culottes and drink something out of a coconut, James & Kevin give a Tune-Up to Jungle Cruise (they... really had vacation on their minds...), decide if Eternals will last the test of time, have something to say about Last Night in Soho, and finally decide if they can see anything of themselves in Old. Jungle Cruise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJZ82pwwJqA Eternals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8wxsGl-rMA Last Night in Soho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB9WUIv9KH8 Old https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4U2pMRV9_k
That's not a car alarm outside, the boys are just Courtesy Honk-ing *a lot*. They find some fun in The Amusement Park, go in depth on Jenny's husband's opinion of Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, and decide if The Forever Purge will last. Granted, that's a lotta honking, so off to the shop the podcast goes... and, hey, while they're there, they give a quick Tune-Up to A Quiet Place Part II. Then, James & Kevin, hankering to talk about a movie, decide to give a quick Trailer in the Rearview of Mortal Kombat to finish the discourse on it. Finally (big episode this week!), they say good night to The Green Knight and indulge in the chaos of Venom: Let There be Carnage. HOPE YA LIKE SEGMENTS. James and Kevin give a Courtesy Honk to Marvel's first feature trailer in over a year with Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, then head into the Teaser Trailer Showroom to give the jazz hands of West Side Story a shake, all before performing a Tune Up on Luca. Winded, but still going, James and Kevin try to catch the nuances of Annette and ask Wrath of Man to maybe mellow a bit. James & Kevin may have missed the boat on the new Space Jam trailer, so they introduce Brake Check to get some thoughts out on whether it had enough Larry Bird. Then, they place their bets on Army of the Dead, all before refreshing themselves with F9.
With the Snyder cut in the rearview, the boys look ahead... but not too far ahead, because they recorded before the new Space Jam trailer came out. They give their best guess on their opinion, and welcome *your* guesses on their opinion at trailerhitchmailbox@gmail.com In the intermediary, they tune-up The Mitchells vs. The Machines (fka Connected), dust off an old segment for The Suicide Squad's red and green band trailers, all before circling back to Spiral. After giving them a years' time to shimmy in the wings, the boys give In the Heights another shot. Then, speaking of second chances, James and Kevin decide they were a bit mean to Disney, so they take another look at Cruella. They cap things off with the sacrilege of The Unholy, and decide if all that origami's for naught with The Paper Tigers. In the Heights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5pTICZ2oeg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4CRPvel2Vc Cruella https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmRKv7n2If8 The Unholy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmQiJPLYzPI The Paper Tigers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zM3IpjY3CI
James and Kevin dive in to Luca, get their boots on the ground for Army of the Dead, see if they can cut any slack for Slaxx, and come out in full Thunder Force. After a quick Courtesy Honk for Justice League (something something society), the boys decide if they'll give any mercy to Cruella, and test their might on Mortal Kombat. Then, with weeks of hyping it up, James and Kevin see Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, and decide if the trailer's idiosyncratic style of humor works for longer than two minutes.
The boys get their first look at Raya and the Last Dragon before getting their second trip in to Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar. Then, they weigh in on Godzilla vs. Kong, and appreciate some Moxie. Raya and the Last Dragon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VIZ89FEjYI Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odM92ap8_c0 Godzilla Vs. The boys?! Unfiltered?! But what of their, "Um's"?! It's a risk they're willing to take, especially because they have a lot of great content to dissect. After questioning the utility of a sizzle reel after seeing Netflix and HBO Max's offerings for the year, James & Kevin head into the teaser trailer showroom to bask in the weirdness of Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Rey. Then, they have a taste of Cherry and spend a night at Willy's Wonderland.
"Woof, what a year." "Lemon, it's January." Right, plenty happened already, so the boys take a breather before giving a passing glance at Coming 2 America (... are you absolutely sure you want to come right now...), check in with their favorite pasta-making couple Malcom & Marie, and, for something different, go get Locked Down. Then, to escape a little, the boys leave this plane and head to a spiritual one to discuss Soul. Will this finally be the Pixar trailer that the boys like in retrospect? Will they latch on to the film's message, which seems like "pleasant Albert Camus"? Will they realize the first film they reviewed in 2020 was Cats, and the first film they reviewed in 2021 also heavily features a VFX cat? Give 'em an hour, and they'll answer all that and more.
In a year of "trying times", these were the trailers that tried... and succeeded... at making 2020 just a little better. From Palm Springs to Deerskin, from the bizarre to the goofy fun, these were the trailers that resonated the most with James and Kevin! There are plenty of firsts to be had in these Top 5's (well, beyond the trailers that got first place, anyway), so tune in to hear which Never Need to See trailer wound up on one of these lists, and more!
It's a whacky episode, so in lieu of my usual schwupping (a word we made up; I told you it was whacky), I choose to quote poet-of-my-generation, Bill Murray: Star Wars! Give me those Star Wars! Nothing but Star Wars - Don't let them end. Ah, Star Wars! If they should bar wars, Please let these Star Wars stay! And hey, How about that nutty Star Wars bar? Can you believe all the creatures in there? And hey, Darth Vader in that black and evil mask - Did he scare you as much as he scared me? Star Wars, Those near and far wars, Star Wars!

With the holiday fast approaching, James couldn't resist talking about The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, and with whiskey o'clock fast approaching, Kevin couldn't resist talking about On the Rocks. Then, the boys spend One Night in Miami and shuffle on to Chaos Walking.
With their ride adding the weight of a wedding ring, the newly un-bachelored James and freewheeling bachelor Kevin dive head first into trailers of love. Whether that be Kevin's love for the esoteric movie you have to read (Another Round), or James' love for Star Wars that he never talks about (The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special), the boys give you the 411. They also say neigh to Black Beauty, and see if Happiest Season lives up to its name.
After a wild All Saints Day, James & Kevin check out the Mexican jumping beans of Mank, are glad it's November while reviewing Halloween Kills, head off to Dreamland, and try to shake the Stardust off a Bowie biopic.
Finally atoning for their goofs, James & Kevin get in the (spooky) trenches for Ghosts of War and do a deep dive on Deep Blue Sea 3. It's a lot to tackle, so thankfully Bad Movie Correspondent, Social Media Manager, James' Roommate... and maybe James' fiance?... Jenny Hoks helps the boys look in the rearview, bringing extensive Deep Blue Sea knowledge and a whole lotta puns.
James & Kevin stop the presses for Fatman, and discuss its hilarious premise, whether they can accept Mel Gibson as the lead, and who they'd get to play Cupid in the spin-off.
James and Kevin comb through the Bad Hair trailer, enjoy the Sound of Metal, and truncate the title of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
It's high time the boys got early. After being a few weeks too late for DC Fandome, they decide to celebrate Halloween early, exclusively reviewing horror movie trailers! Oop! Never mind, Dune came out. Well, that box of pain looks scary, so maybe that half counts. After admiring a big ol' worm, the boys laugh their way through Mass Hysteria, decide if Hubbie Halloween is a trick or a treat, get Freaky, wonder if Scare Me is a little desperate, foreclose Welcome to the Blumhouse, all before bearing down for Grizzly 2. NOTE: It has come to our attention there is some inaccurate information in this episode, regarding the choir noted in the Dune review, and if the trailer for Welcome to the Blumhouse noted what streaming service it would be dropping on. This will be addressed in the next episode which, by this rate, will be Valentine's Day themed. Oh! Turns out DC Fandome had a lotta stuff going on. The boys show up fashionably late to unite for Snyder's Justice League, turn back the clock for Wonder Woman 1984, don't get too attached to The Suicide Squad, and address their thoughts to The Batman. To cap things off, they rush through No Time to Die.
It's so hot. To beat the heat, James & Kevin decide to get in an air conditioned car and go Cross Country to try to find cooler land. They make a deal with The Devil All the Time, order a stiff one for On the Rocks, curse their gas powered cars with Tesla, have a sobering moment with The Binge, regard the royalty of Get Duked, forgive past betrayals with Judas and the Black Messiah, and applaud the horniness of Death on the Nile (the steaminess was worth breaking the pun run, trust me). They also spend more time on Space Jam 2 than the marketing team did, and tease DC Fandome. Please note at the time of recording, they had no idea what (if anything) would premiere, so forgive Kevin's hesitancy to participate since he was still rubbed raw by this year's lackluster Comic Con. Now knowing what was in store, he agrees he could, in more ways than one, afford to chill. Trailer Hitch is officially in the triple digit club! Having conquered 100 episodes worth of trailers, they celebrate by conquering Comic Con 2020... Which is basically a victory lap. Due to the pandemic there are alarmingly few trailers, but due diligence demands it, damn it! James & Kevin see if there's anything new with The New Mutants, mount some Antlers, try to harmonize their "Whoa's" for Bill & Ted Face the Music, make lifelong foes outta Archenemy, and though they agree Kilroy Was Here they wonder why.
James & Kevin, equipped with a clunky show name to honor a certain football team, go Rogue and wonder when The New Mutants is coming out. The boys also get their first screener... for Money Plane. They note the irony that their first free movie they've gotten for the podcast is called Money Plane and go sky high. Finally, cause who doesn't wanna get away these days, they go to Palm Springs and talk ad infinitum about the possibilities the premise belies.
Have you ever noticed just how many things are connected to electricity? Well, Kevin sure found out when the power cut out mid-recording for this episode. Luckily, the boys are able to generate some spark with a look at Halloween Kills, The One and Only Ivan, and An American Pickle. Also, ayyyyyyy the boys watched a movie! They pour their sweat and tears into Da 5 Bloods, and determine whether the trailer that blew them away still does after seeing the film.
With an ever growing list of trailers, but an ever shrinking amount to say about some of them, James & Kevin introduce Courtesy Honk, where they touch on various trailers that they only have a paltry quip for. Through this, they give you notably abridged thoughts on Greenland, the 450th trailer for The King's Man (aforementioned number is a horrific overestimate), Waiting For the Barbarians, and Peninsula. Those trailers alone are worth entire episodes, though (well, maybe except for The King's Man...)! What could possibly top those?! Quite a bit, it turned out! The boys get the fatigues scared off of them with Ghosts of War, admire the Broken Hearts Gallery, take a repetitious trip to Palm Springs, and go off the deep end with a request to review Deep Blue Sea 3. Worth noting that we indeed had technical difficulties this episode, which will lead to a MIGHTY NOTICEABLE dip in audio quality on Kevin's end. While we sincerely regret this, we're slightly heartened that this happened during the review of Deep Blue Sea 3, which is arguably too perfect.
Even with a multitude of injustice in the world, James manages to find something new to be enraged about: Kevin hadn't seen The Shawshank Redemption until last week. Luckily for James, Kevin also saw the trailers they're talking about today. They grade Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga a high-C, wonder how Joseph Gordon-Levitt got their company credit card PIN in 7500, take a franc ferry to Money Plane, and tune their instruments to Bill & Ted Face the Music.
Things are pretty tense out there, so James & Kevin go Cross Country to get away for a while. On their journey, they donate some time to Da 5 Bloods, pay their respects to The Old Guard, go a bit Unhinged, don't quite find self-actualization with The Transcendents, reckon with a Force of Nature, bury the past with Relic, decide if The Wanting Mare could be a little less demanding, find out how much room and board is with Tenet, all before arriving at their final destination of Antebellum (... again.)
Nestled in their respective apartments, the boys are perplexed that they have three major trailers to talk about this week. Do these trailer editors get notes saying, "Remove the title card that says, 'In theaters on ¯_(ツ)_/¯'"? There are a lot of unanswered questions, but thankfully, our hosts have some opinions to compensate. James and Kevin don't call that trailer Shirley, admire the good hair in Becky, and crown The King of Staten Island.
Another couple of weeks of quarantining and... someone's still making trailers?! BLESS YOUR HEART, WHOEVER YOU ARE, CAUSE YOU'RE GIVING US STUFF TO DISSECT. James & Kevin pick sides for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs. The Reverend, and determine if We Are Little Zombies is dead on arrival, and talking about the critical woe of wanting to love something but just not being able to connect with it. Next, another couple of weeks of quarantining and... there still aren't too many new movies! BLESS YOUR HEARTS, WHOEVER YOU ARE, BECAUSE YOU'RE CLEARLY QUARANTINING TOO. As such, James & Kevin take a look at another VOD staple in our trying time: The Hunt. They talk about great fight choreography and why satire is such a tightrope walk.
Another fortnight in containment yielded a surprising amount of trailers -- we had initially anticipated zero -- so the boys determine if they, um, like Valley Girl, and drum up an opinion about some bootlegged Capone footage. Then, James & Kevin look Onward. Though they never reviewed the trailer for the show, they manage to give you the 411 on if the trailer properly conveyed the film, and their thoughts about the controversial ending.
James & Kevin are known for their overkill. Though they only have to be six feet apart, the boys chose to be a mile and a half apart, recording in their respective, quarantined apartments. But their distance makes their hearts grow fonder for trailers, and they got a couple doozies. They begin with The Main Event, then flunk out of Bad Education. Next, they introduce Hi-Beam, Lo-Beam, where one person watches all of the promotional material before seeing a movie, while the other goes in blind. James hadn't heard of One Cut of the Dead before watching it for the show, whereas Kevin saw all of the spoiler-y trailers. Will this lead to the experience being soured for the latter? Can a trailer spoil a film but not its experience? They investigate... separately.
Take a listen to the "before times"... when we were still able to record podcasts in our friends' dining rooms before that was illegal. Also listen to when the "before times" became "the times" about 20 minutes into the recording, when one of our guest hosts had to leave cause all of her stuff was at work and she had to go grab it before she'd get locked out of her office. Needless to say, it's been a wild few weeks, and we're here for ya, to confront the anxiety of "the times" head on and to distract you from it with some jokes about Jungle Cruise, Soul, and a bunch of jokes about The Christmas Prince 3: The Royal Baby. Huge shout out to our Bad Movie Correspondent Jenny Hoks and returning guest Micah Pollard for coming along for the ride. Stay safe out there! We'll be back in some way shape or form in two weeks time. Digital elbow bumps from Trailer Hitch.
The boys may have slept on the Oscars this year, but they didn't forget to award the first annual Best Trailer Picture to their favorite trailer of the Best Picture nominees. Too little, too late? The winner of our non-existent trophy will decide... But before they can decide, the boys hit the road and go Cross Country once again. Their journey brings them all the way to The French Dispatch, taking in the heartland to admire some Deerskin, getting something to eat with Candyman, make it a point to stay connected with... er, Connected, all before arriving at their final destination of Antebellum (probably coulda picked a more cheery destination, but it'll do.) Finally, James & Kevin saw some movies! They look at Sonic the Hedgehog and decide if the arduous trailer history that little blue guy had was worth it, and then cap things off with The Invisible Man, and whether or not that trailer shoulda stayed invisible too.
With the Oscars distributed, the reactions exhaustively archived in meme form, and now forgotten in the constant shifting media cycle, James and Kevin figured, "Yeah, what the hell, let's go see Little Women." They take a look back at a trailer that hides the film's idiosyncratic structure and debate whether that was a welcome surprise or coulda helped get people on the fence to show up. Then, the boys process how they feel about Little Women (neither have read the book or seen any other adaptation), which one of them is totally the Amy in the group (it's Kevin), and how Laura Dern in the this movie is just THE BEST MOM EVER.
James & Kevin spin out of control trying to make sense of Chris Rock's 600 Tuesdays line from Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Next, the boys rank this year's Super Bowl spots! Whether it be with a rigorous method of criticism or a series of disinterested grunts, they give you the lowdown on this year's mini-trailers. Which trailers played like Pat Mahomes in the first half of the Super Bowl, throwing their potential into the dirt? Which trailers played like Pat Mahomes in the second half of the Super Bowl, finding their target 40 yards down the field for a momentum shifting play? Trailer Hitch's official power ranking will give you the scoop!
James & Kevin stumble over Standing Up, Falling Down, and get a few bats up in here with Morbius. With the Cats out of the bag, the boys catch up with a far less maligned 2019 film with 1917. They look back at a trailer that had to juggle selling a concept that (as far as they can surmise) can't be sold in a trailer and several narrative twists, all before getting into the trenches of the film itself.
James and Kevin start the year horribly wrong by going to see Cats as punishment for a failed segment last year. Luckily, Micah Pollard from the podcast Shark Bites and Carter Wedl from... his apartment... join the boys on this ex-purr-sion. They stare deep into the VFX abyss and report back on whether the trailer can adequately prepare you for the film, and how time becomes a meaningless void after the fourth Judi Dench verse delivered directly into camera. But all is not bleak! They also take a look at the new The New Mutants mutation that hit a few weeks ago, and shout their way through A Quiet Place 2. Be sure to check out Micah (and his co-host Charlie's) podcast on iTunes! And be sure to, I dunno, send Carter a tweet. He's around. He'll probably reply.
We came, we saw, we watched some trailers! As evidence of this, James & Kevin go through their respective top five trailers of the year, giving you the very best of this year's excellent crop. But wait! There's a late bloomer in those crops! Perhaps Christopher Nolan was trying to sneak one by the boys, but send a late rent notice to Tenet all the same. Does its inclusion in this episode mean that it places highly on one of their lists? That could be one of five reasons to listen to Trailer Hitch's Top 5 Trailers of the year! Special thanks to all of our expats, be they in the music, art, or social media realms for their fantastic work this year, and to you for listening (or scrolling by on social media or Apple Podcasts)!
Trailer Hitch has seen STAR WARS EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER... and Kevin & James have opinions! Listen to our spoiler filled review of the film, and how it compared to the trailers! We laughed, we cried, we pumped our fists in the air... (during the podcast... you'll have to listen to find out if that's what we did during the movie as well!)
While most critics are winding down at the end of the year with Top 10 lists, James & Kevin are just getting warmed up with a full 11 trailers to review just in time to wrap out 2019! To accommodate all of the trailers, James & Kevin hit the road in a new segment called Cross Country, where they give themselves five minutes a pop to dissect each one. They're incentivized to go quick though, because any time they save goes directly to talking about In the Heights, their final destination on their road trip. If the boys fail to talk about all eleven trailers in less than 50 minutes... then they have to watch another Double Never Need to See Film. Tune in to find out if they faceplant, and to hear thoughts on all these trailers: Black Widow Togo No Time to Die The Assistant Mulan Promising Young Woman Wonder Woman 1984 Escape From Pretoria Ghostbusters: After-Life Free Guy In the Heights
James & Kevin decide if the new Cats trailer is top of the feline, marvel at a great juxtaposition in Antebellum, and commit regicide with The Christmas Prince 3: The Royal Baby. Then, the boys get their first instance where a trailer wildly mis-sold a movie! They dive into the implications of dramatically altering the story for a trailer (especially when it's a better creative choice) while giving Little Monsters a fair shake on its own merit as a film.
James and Kevin run head first into the new Sonic The Hedgehog trailer, taking in both its new design and storytelling approach, sell their souls to get a peak at Pixar's latest teaser for Soul, get more than they bargained for on Fantasy Island, and (somehow) see The Invisible Man. After establishing their clout in the world of movie trailer reviews, the boys audition for the Clio Awards, a marketing committee that commends the year's best trailers. They pick the winners while pitching why they'd make good additions to the Clio voting board (James could be this esteemed committee's rough-and-tumble bad boy, for example).
