This week on The Learning Curve, guest co-hosts Charlie Chieppo and Alisha Searcy interview Leslie Klinger, annotator of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Mr. Klinger discusses Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; the creation of the Sherlock Holmes character; Holmes' relationships with Dr. Watson, Irene Adler, and Professor Moriarty; and famous Holmes cases. He also explores Edgar Allan Poe's influence on the detective genre, as well as the timeless significance of 19th-century horror stories such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in popular culture. In closing, Mr. Klinger reads a passage from his annotated Sherlock Holmes stories.
Our Summer of Chaos continues with one of the worst movies ever made: Holmes and Watson. On the plus side, our discussion is lively, and we enjoy some delicious Syrah from Washington. Enjoy! If you'd like to read my full review of this godforsaken movie, click here!

Happy Sherlock Holmes Day (May 22nd)! As big Sherlock fans, we had to take a minute to honor the greatest detective in literary history. This episode we spend some time looking at the story of Sherlock Holmes (and lest we forget Dr. Watson) throughout popular culture. The novel adaptations, the cartoons, the movies and the shows...we look at it all. The game is afoot! Listen now!
This week we bring you another early recording, that we had to throw on the shelf while Jared filed a patent for the million dollar idea he mentioned in this episode. Find out what that is, and also hear our thoughts on the 'Will Ferrell as Sherlock Holmes' movie that swept through the Razzies. Enjoy!
Where your heroes try to redeem Holmes and Watson! (PS we experienced internet delays towards the end of this one, sorry)
The great detective takes on the Great White North! The Scarlet Claw is a 1944 Sherlock Holmes picture in the series starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Once again, Roy William Neill is back to direct.Holmes and Watson find themselves in Canada for a paranormal convention. But things take a darker turn when one of the occult expert's wife is found murdered, her throat slashed by a claw. When Holmes receives a letter from the dead one, he decides to travel to the small Northern town to deduce whether malevolent spirits or more earthly dangers are afoot. Listen to Áine and Kevin scratch away at topics like ghosts, cross-Atlantic voyages during the Second World War, the hearty boomer goose, and Canada. We'll also discuss why this is our favorite Universal Holmes picture so far, and why we think it'll have you rooting for La Mort Rouge.Follow us on the usual social media suspects:FacebookTwitterInstagramAnd send us mysterious and intriguing missives at mysterytomepodcast@gmail.com.Mystery to Me is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Finn and Uther watch two anarchic, fourth wall breaking takes on the character of Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Jr. (1924) is Buster Keaton's classic crime-comedy-action-romance that combines incredible jokes with the wildest action beats of the silent era. Holmes and Watson (2018) is 90 minutes of Britain and America's finest comedic and dramatic talents failing to find anything comedic or dramatic to do.Keaton vs. Chaplin. Is it fundamentally wrong for a film to be based around dreams? Which members of the Holmes and Watson cast would have made better Holmes and/or Watsons? Uther lures Finn into a deadly game of cat and mouse, while Finn tries to list every cultural event of the late 70s. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Holmes and Watson (2018) tells the tried and tested tale of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson on another adventure, although this time, taking a comedic twist on the formula. Two legendary comedy actors: Will Ferrell and John. C. Riley, attempt to bring some laughs to the screen, while Oscar and Carl struggle to sit through the attempts, while also trying to figure out who would watch this.
What a difference over 200 crappy movies makes. Back in 2007, George watched The Comebacks starring SNL alums David Koechner and Finesse Mitchell and directed by the guy who gave us Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star. It was so terrible he broke the DVD he burned it on so it would never be played again. Flash forward to 2020 and The Comebacks is one of the best movies we've seen for this podcast. Unfairly lumped in with the spoof movies from Friedberg and Seltzer, this is a funny movie with good jokes and an actual story you can follow from beginning to end. There are a few visual sight gags that are just references to other movies of the time, but for the most part the movie will turn a reference into an actual character or storyline. Listen to George and Ben talk about their new favorite movie. Then again, this could all be some kind of insanity. Listen, there’s more than one way to become a Rude Dude, and Mike Mongiardi found that out the HARD way. ;) This episode has us jump cutting all over, cause the gang goes from Riverdale to Splitsville USA! FP’s gettin’ out of jail, so Jughead and Betty don’t have time to go around town solving mysteries, so they task Archie and Veronica with figuring out for them (big mistake). Little do they know Archie dropped the L word to Ron, and she didn’t say it back!! Meanwhile, FP’s trying to retire from the gang life (mostly to stick it to Alice) and Jug is not happy that his KING of a father is stuck cleaning Cheryl’s milkshakes off the floor at Pops. So Betty decides to throw FP a gang retirement party with karaoke. She also decides it’s going to be a good time to try and join in on the Serpent fun... This really is a MAD WORLD (Wild ride)!!! Will Veronica confess her feelings to Archie? Will we ever get Alice’s true backstory with the Serpents? WILL CHERYL KILL REGGIE LIKE SHE DID THE KNOTS ON JOSIE’S BACK?! No and that’s okay, lol kind of? And jury is still out, but Josie has/had a normal super model neck!!!!!! This week on The First Run, Chris and Matt discuss “Hobbs and Shaw” and “Holmes and Watson”. AND! It's a week of partners, friends, and attempts at humor from all involved. First up, it's a spin-off from the go-to “that's ridiculous” franchise, “Fast and Furious”. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham star as the titular Hobbs and Shaw. They're tasked to defeat Idris Elba's mechanically super-sized bad guy and save the world. All the while taking stinging jabs at each other. Oh for fun! Then Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are reunited in last summer's sure-fire comedy hit, “Holmes And Watson”. There's nothing these two can't make hilarious… Right?!? There's the always exhilarating run down of the big releases on physical media, featuring the Streaming and Straight to DVD Picks of the Week. New episodes are released every Saturday at 6pm GMT. This time, Etan Cohen's Holmes and Watson. In turn-of-the-century London, the fiend James Moriarty prepares to face trial. His conviction rests upon the testimony of heroic detective Sherlock Holmes. However, Holmes makes a startling deduction about the identity of the man in the dock, which sets in motion a whirlwind comedic misadventure. At time of recording, it was ranked 100th on the Internet Movie Database's list of the worst movies of all-time.

Good piss balls, Watson, it appears to be the most devilish challenge the Pauls have faced yet. A comedy film of such crippling ineptitude there could only be one culprit! ...and many, many accomplices, all of whom shall share the Pauls' ire. A review of Holmes & Watson. A film when under the microscope not near as bad as "they" said it was.
On the tenth episode of Much Review About Nothing, we review Holmes and Watson (2018). Again, we must point out that we haven't seen the movie. That is 100% not a joke. Everything we know about the film comes from the trailer, reviews, articles, and our own biased preconceptions. Listen along as we ponder burning questions like: What happens if you eat a "blood cake?" Is Holmes and Watson the first movie bad enough to make theaters warn people against seeing it? Can musicals be used for evil? Do you miss the good old days when Hollywood used to write scripts before filming? But most importantly, was this movie just a huge, elaborate ploy for Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly to rob people at gun-point? (One could argue they've been doing that metaphorically for years.)
The Razzies are an award show that celebrates the worst films of the year. In this episode, Billy and Adam look back on 2018's "winners.” Plus, remembering Steven Brody Stevens, Nelly Furtado vs Natalie Imbruglia and music by Matty B Raps!Theme: Send Medicine - Way to the Sea

Joey in Los Angeles, CA writes in, “I had the pleasure of watching Hereditary over Christmas weekend and ended up losing sleep for a couple of nights. It hit me on so many levels and I forgot how powerful horror movies can be. I had trouble falling asleep in the dark and even struggled to go back to sleep after waking up in the dead of night. I was wondering if Chris could tackle the question of how to get over being scared of horror movies as an adult. I'm a grown man and I hate losing sleep, which is why I usually avoid movies like Hereditary in the first place! Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!” All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. On Episode 333 of The Harold & Maudecast, 2018 Fall and Holiday Movie Preview and review of Amazon Studios, YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE and Netflix Disenchantment. Hosts Sarah Mason and Jake Essoe review YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE, an Amazon Studios release, written and directed by Lynne Ramsay (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN) and starring Joaquin Phoenix. The film won both Best Screenplay and Actor, for Phoenix, at Cannes Film Festival 2017 and was nominated for the festival's top prize, the Palm D'Or. Joe (Phoenix) is a traumatized veteran funneling his unearthed rage into brutal take-downs of sex traffickers. When Joe agrees to track down a high ranking government officials missing daughter, he finds himself in the middle of cover up leading to deathly consequences. Phoenix gives an unapologetically brutal and layered performance. Joe's violence is balanced by his thoughtful care-taking of his mother played by Judith Roberts (ERASERHEAD, DEAD CALM. The film spares the audience the distraction of confusing subplots choosing to focus solely on the mission at hand. It's darkly artistic--feels like a film festival entry! But in all the best ways. Additionally, Sarah and Jake go through the full list of upcoming movies releasing in September through the end of 2018 -- THE NUN, HALLOWEEN, OUTLAW KING, THE PREDATOR, HAL, THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, SPIDER-MAN INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, HOLMES AND WATSON, FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD, AQUAMAN and so many more. Bonus! A review of Matt Groening's (The Simpson's), new Netflix series, Disenchantment. For more episodes of The Harold & Maudecast and other podcasts please visit www.thehmcnetwork.com
