In the annals of history, few leaders exemplify self-awareness as profoundly as Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. His leadership during one of the nation's most tumultuous periods, the Civil War, showcased a remarkable blend of self-awareness, empathy, and resilience. This post delves into the facets of Lincoln's self-aware leadership and the timeless lessons embedded therein. Self-Reflection: Lincoln's life was a testament to self-reflection and continuous learning. Born into poverty, he was largely self-taught, yet his thirst for knowledge and understanding propelled him to the highest office in the land. His ability to reflect on his experiences, learn from failures, and adapt his strategies was a hallmark of his self-aware leadership. Emotional Intelligence: Lincoln exhibited a high degree of emotional intelligence, often shouldering the burden of the nation's woes while navigating personal tragedies. His capacity to manage his emotions, understand the emotions of others, and apply this understanding in his leadership decisions was exemplary. Adaptability: Amidst the Civil War, Lincoln demonstrated remarkable adaptability. His willingness to modify his stance, especially concerning the abolition of slavery, showcased a leader attuned to the evolving needs of his nation and the broader call for human rights. Humility and Acknowledgment of Mistakes: Lincoln was known for his humility and his readiness to acknowledge mistakes. He assembled a "Team of Rivals" in his cabinet, valuing diverse perspectives even from those who opposed him. This humility, coupled with an ability to learn from errors, underscored his self-aware approach to governance. Inclusivity and Empathy: Lincoln's leadership was also marked by inclusivity and a deep-seated empathy for all citizens, regardless of their standing. His pursuit of a more united nation, even in the face of bitter divisiveness, showcased a leader deeply aware of the collective human experience. Legacy of Self-Aware Leadership: Abraham Lincoln's legacy is one of hope, resilience, and the unyielding pursuit of a more equitable nation. His self-aware leadership not only navigated the United States through its darkest hour but also set a precedent for the transformative potential of self-aware governance. Conclusion: Abraham Lincoln's narrative is a compelling exploration of how self-awareness, intertwined with empathy, adaptability, and humility, can engender a leadership capable of navigating through adversities and fostering societal progression. His legacy remains a resounding testament to the enduring power of self-aware leadership in catalyzing positive change.

The team was without Pete this week, which means it was a great show. Ron and Elliott talked Gold Gloves, GM "business as usual" lines, the CBA, and a look at Obi-Wan concept art. The Cards have won 12 in a row heading into Wrigley for a four-game set this weekend. Their grip on the playoffs has tightened, but will playoff success slip through their fingers when they face the Dodgers or the Giants in the Wild Card Round? And will the Cubs let their tanking plan get in the way of ending a streak? Rewatch this week's show on YouTube or Facebook. Follow us on Twitter. Follow us on Instagram. Like us on Facebook. With the Cardinals losing games not on purpose and the Cubs losing games on purpose, the guys a little beside themselves. Watching the games has become difficult which makes talking about the sport, really difficult. Follow us on Twitter. Follow us on Instagram Like us on Facebook.
What a ride! A series of moves in a short amount of time took us right up to the wire for the Team's post-trade deadline analysis of the Cubs, Cardinals, and other moves around Major League Baseball. Gone are the Cubs Big Three, while the Cardinals welcome a former foe. Joining us on this week's show was long-time listener and friend of the show, Sam Smith (Twitter: @SamSmitty9). Moose Michaels joins Ron and Elliott at the beginning of this week's show to talk about this Cardinals team. The Cardinals are a mess all around, with so many problems it's hard to point to a few things that could be the cause. What do they do, and do they see the empty seats in Busch III? The Cubs, on the other hand, have played well enough to share the top spot in the NL Central. (Bet they wish they still had Yu!) The Cardinals are underachieving, or are they? The Cubs are exceeding expectations, and should we have doubted them? Attendance surprising low in STL this last week as the ballpark opens back up to capacity. Blackouts are one of many things that have us worried about the health of the game. In other talk, Pete shares his experience at Galaxy's Edge, and the guys talk Loki and the Bad Batch. Follow us on Twitter. Follow us on Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.
Ron and Elliott were joined this week by Dan Buffa and Holy Elle. The Cardinals injury list dominates the conversation up front, but this week's show took some strange twists and turns as we went from Cardinals talk to how the world would be a better place with less violence and more masturbation. Pretty good advice actually… Follow us on Twitter. Follow us on Instagram. Like us on Facebook. Check out Gateway City Sports.
A quarter of the way into the season and both the Cardinals and Cubs are right about where we thought they would be. A soft schedule has helped the Cardinals take command atop the division, but a tougher test lies ahead. The countdown to the Cubs dismantling continues as we're halfway through May. Jim Edmonds apparently had an orgasm during a live broadcast over a Goldschmidt HR, the Padres suffer a COVID setback and the MLBPA files that grievance we all expected them to over last years delay. And finally, and unbelievably, Ron's wife joined the show live. Why? We have no idea.
The title reads enthusiasm because baseball is really back, and with real fans in the stands. Is that enough to bring the game back? We hope so, but it does feel different. Ron, Pete and Elliott talk about what happened on baseball's Opening Day and it wasn't as energetic as you'd think.
Pete, Ron & Elliott discussed real baseball this week. The Cubs are off to a good start with some stress concerning their bullpen. The Cardinals offense isn't looking good at all, and Ron shared his thoughts on that and some of the dumb shit that fans say social media.
With baseball back, it would appear that things are going to get back to normal. Not so fast says the sick Marlins players. Arlington Lane joins Ron on this episode of N The Cards to talk about baseball, BLM baseball statement, decreasing number of black players in baseball, and of course, their impression of the Cardinals 4 games into the short season.
With one week to go until baseball, Pete was missing but @Holy_Elle stepped in to save the show. The crew talked about the upcoming MLB opening day along with an array of Star Wars talk. No guard rails, no restrictions. That's a bad thing for Ron.
Palmer Alexander III @thelegendkil joins Ron early on a Sunday morning to talk baseball and to catch us up with all that is happening on N The Zone Network.
Ron is back on his solo gig for N The Cards. What will baseball be when it gets back? New divisions and how they will pan out for 2020, outfield competition and St. Louis made a statement during the short stint it had professional football back.
What are the Cardinals going to do this off-season? What should they do? What's likely to happen? Why do some fans have an "auto no" response to certain possibilities? Why is the sky blue? What the hell are you looking at? I was talking to myself tonight while watching the World Series, so I decided to take myself into the studio and just continue the conversation....with myself. I'm my own best friend. Sometimes. Sometimes I'm an ass. Sometimes I'm not. This is N The Zone! This is the Network!
If you're into baseball and only baseball, skip this one. Pete, Ron, and Elliott stick around after the regular show to talk about all that was revealed at D23 for Star Wars. The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Cassian, Obi-Wan, and The Rise of Skywalker.
Red’s out. The Infiltrator and The Director join Elliott, Pete, and Ron to discuss the Cardinals’ lack of activity at the trade deadline and the Cubs’ STUNNING last-minute moves. They spend a lot of time on the Cards front office’s inexplicable roster management and the underwhelming performance of most of the MLB roster. Will the Cubs finally pull away? Check out THE GRAIL at jellyFEST (www.thejellyfest.com) or the Angaelica Film Festival (www.angaelica.com/films). Watch this week's episode on Facebook or YouTube.
After a month's "hiatus" (thanks Ron), the Team spends a few minutes catching up on the last few weeks' happenings, before delving into the boring modern game and the electronic strike zone. Brecklyn and Ron then go off on ignorant Cardinals fans on Twitter. Elliott then wraps things up with an emotional tribute to #BigStickNick. Watch this week's show on Facebook or YouTube.
Ron and Pete are joined by Dan and John from Cubs Cards Cast to discuss this year's trade deadline. What are the Cubs and Cards likely to do in the next 36 hours? Which players are they ready to move on from? Will the trend continue, or will the road team finally win a game in this season's series?
With Elliott on the DL, it's up to Brecklyn, Pete, and Ron to discuss Addison Russell's demotion, the hottest team in the NL (no, not the San Francisco Giants), and the impending trade deadline. Which Cubs and which Cardinals will be shipped out to make the teams better in the push for the NL Central crown? Watch this week's episode on Facebook or YouTube.
It only took 20 minutes for the crew and @Holy_Elle to talk about baseball, as everyone agrees that the NL Central – especially the Cubs & Cardinals – sucks. And then they talk pop culture. Come for the bad baseball, stay for the Nerd Culture. Watch this week's podcast on Facebook or on YouTube.
For the second week in a row, our full crew is back. Ron, Pete, Elliott, and Brecklyn sat down to talk about the All-Star Game and voting, the Rays potentially playing in two cities, the NL Central standings, and Albert's return to St. Louis. Plus, they debated who was more drunk at their Stanley Cup Championship parade: Alex Ovechkin or Brett Hull. Watch this week's full, unedited episode on Facebook or on Google.
Everybody – yes, EVERYBODY – is In tonight, as Ron makes a return from his family vacation. The Team talks about Lord Stanley's Cup, the most recent Cubs-Cardinals series, and the vexatious season that Cardinals fans are suffering through. They also discuss player development, front office mistakes, and bad players. Watch this week's unedited episode on Facebook or YouTube.
Aaron Mullins makes an unscheduled appearance on this week's show with Elliott and Pete to discuss the Cubs' signing of Craig Kimbrel, the Cardinals' disappointing month of May, and the inability of any team to distinguish themselves in the NL Central. Watch the unedited episode on Facebook or YouTube.
Brecklyn graduates! Elliott's back! Aaron Mullins is driving home! The Team of Rivals (with Special Guest Aaron Mullins) discusses the Cardinals' miserable month of May and Brecklyn's visit to the Friendly Confines. Elliott and Pete then revel in the Cubs remarkable month of May and the Fourth-Place St. Louis Cardinals. Watch this week's unedited episode on Facebook or on YouTube.
After a lengthy absence, Brecklyn returns, and on the verge of graduating with honors! She and Pete discuss the angst that Luke Gregerson is giving Cardinals fans right now, the return of Addison Russell, the Zobrist divorce, the Cubs' turnaround, and the Cardinals recent struggles. Watch this week's episode on Facebook or on YouTube.
It's starting to look like a two-team race in the NL Central as the Cardinals and Cubs face off for the first time this season with a three-game set at Wrigley Field. But who cares about that, when we've got a Ron sighting! Pete and Ron have a quick chat about life, the NL Central, and the upcoming series in this week's episode.
It's CubsTalk with Pete and Elliott! With Brecklyn out working on her thesis, the resident Cubs fans make a game attempt to discuss the First Place Cardinals' recent hot streak, led by their suddenly resurgent offensive attack. They then dive into a detailed discussion of all things Cubs, on the heels of their recent series wins over the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers. And with Addison Russell's imminent return to Chicago, the Cubs Front Office has some difficult decisions ahead… Watch this week's show on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TeamOfRivalsPodcast/videos/2119316821692026/ or on YouTube: https://youtu.be/GlxsvbI_EZ8.
Yes, Ron's still on hiatus, but Brecklyn, Elliott, and Pete continue to soldier on. Things are starting to tighten up in the NL Central, as the Brewers have cooled off just as the Cubs and Cards have started to heat up. The injury bug starts to bite in St. Louis, and Big Z is making a comeback. Plus – spurred on by the live viewers – The Three get pretty hot and bothered about bat flips and purpose pitches. With Ron still on hiatus and Pete attending Star Wars Celebration, the WDIIA crew shanghaied Elliott for this week's show. They discuss a good week for the Cubs, a bad week for the Brewers, and a great week for the Cardinals. The Jason Heyward Bandwagon heats up again, Brecklyn wants Marcell Ozuna off her team, and the Brewers are due for regression. Or are they? The crew also chats about the best broadcast teams and the difficulty of making the playoffs from the NL Central. Blake Root, Jacob Foote, and Brecklyn Carey get together to discuss the first week of the 2019 season. They discuss the demotions of Carl Edwards, Jr. and Alex Reyes, and the very different 2019 Brewers bullpen before turning their attention to the surprising potential of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the shockingly bad play of the Cincinnati Reds. They also project how the Central Division matches up with the rest of the National League, before turning to the inconsistency of today's MLB umpires.
We're one week in… Is it too early to panic?! Friend of the Show Aaron Mullins joins Brecklyn, Elliott, and Pete to discuss the first week of baseball in the NL Central, what's good for the Cardinals, what's bad for the Cubs, and how quickly this season can get away from them if they don't light the fire. Watch this week's episode on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TeamOfRivalsPodcast/videos/588926381620523/, or on YouTube: https://youtu.be/2QYjHkqf9HM.
Guest host and friend-of-the-show Adam Maurer sits down with Elliott and Pete to discuss what Marvel/Disney gets right and what DC/Warner Bros. gets wrong in their respective superhero universes. Adam provides the kind of Hollywood insider knowledge that you normally wouldn't expect from a baseball podcast.
Ron's still off on walkabout, and Brecklyn is studying for her LSATs, so our good friend Adam Maurer joined Elliott and Pete to talk Opening Day, demotions and designations, the Kyle Hendricks extension, and 2019 season predictions. Keep an eye out for the upcoming Pop Culture Bonus Episode on the Marvel and DC film franchises. Captain Ron is taking a hiatus, but he left the keys in the ignition, so Brecklyn, Elliott, and Pete are taking the pirate ship out for a joyride. This week, they discuss Mike Trout's massive contract extension, the pros and cons of extending Paul Goldschmidt through age 36, Ichiro's retirement, the final week of Spring Training, and the approach of Opening Day.
With Brecklyn heading for higher ground, Ron, Pete, and Elliott discuss the thawing of relations between the MLBPA and owners, Carlos Martinez, and the new rule changes that will be implemented in the years to come.
Ron takes a week off and Brecklyn is studying for an exam, so this week's episode of ToR is very Cubs heavy. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Elliott and Pete steer the ship into the choppy waters of Bryce Harper's contract, baseball's toughest division, spring dreaming, and the possibility of a Kris Bryant contract extension. From the Athletic: How Bryce Harper and the Phillies came together for a deal From Buster Olney: The toughest divisions in baseball for next season
Pete was out on this episode but Ron, Elliott, and Brecklyn covered the opening of Spring Training games by discussing the Cardinals flurry of activity covering Carlos Martinez's shoulder, the Miles Mikolas extension, Ozuna's shoulder status, and options for filling the Cardinals’ starting rotation before shifting over to Cubs camp and Yu Darvish's big start today. They wrapped up with Nolan Arenado's surprising extension and – of course! – the Bryce Harper situation.
Braden hijacks the start of the show with a tribute to his love, MLB The Show. The Team then turns to discussions of the Manny Machado signing and the free agent market, the pitch clock, CMart's injury, Dallas Keuchel, and the start of Spring Training games. If you think this podcast sucked, Pete would like to take responsibility for taking a joke way too far. Link to Pete’s Polar Plunge donor page: http://tinyurl.com/y3t9uvde.
The Team fights through Brecklyn's internet issues for the season's last episode to discuss Racist Ricketts, Hunter As Prey, The Phillies Phlop, the Luke Hagerty Comeback Story, and a very disappointing NL Central Stomping Grounds Post of the Week.
Brecklyn has gone full-on Typhoid Mary, leaving Ron and Pete to do a show with Droolin' Elliott, who was high on life after major oral surgery. They discuss the 2019 Hall of Fame class, predicting success based on Triple-A performance, what happens if the Cardinals miss the playoffs AGAIN, and the most boring topic of the week. Plus, the debut of the NL Central Stomping Grounds Post of the Week!
The Four Are One! Elliott's awake and Ron is barely hanging on, but the Team of Rivals got together to preview the Cubs Convention and the Winter Warmup. What question would you ask? Whose signature would you want most? Who would you want to have a drink with? All that and more on this week's episode.
The full Team of Rivals crew is back! Brecklyn, Elliott, Pete, and Ron discuss Andrew Miller signing with the Cardinals, the ongoing Addison Russell saga, and Bryce Harper's interminable free agency. Ron also answers this offseason's most pressing questions: What does signing with the San Diego Padres say about a player's career, and are Kris Bryant's ocean-blue eyes too beautiful for mere mortals to behold?
With Ron out for a medical emergency and Elliott felled by a migraine headache, Brecklyn and Pete were left to see how much of a mess they could make of things. In the process, Brecklyn gave her takes on last week's topics — the Goldschmidt trade and the Russell tender — and the two of them discussed the lack of Cubs/Cards activity at this year's Winter Meetings, the ongoing Bryce Harper saga, and a little bit of geek culture.
Brecklyn is under the weather, so Josh Potter kindly joined Ron, Pete, and Elliott to discuss the two big developments in RivalsLand: The Cardinals' trade for Paul Goldschmidt, and the Cubs' tender of Addison Russell. How comfortable are both teams with the offseason's progress, and where do we expect them to go from here?
With Brecklyn out studying for finals, the guys gather to discuss the quickly accelerating offseason. When will Jerry Dipoto stop dealing? How much of a madman is Brodie Van Wagenen? Are the Cubs really laying low this offseason? And where are the Cardinals?!
This week's show starts off on the wrong foot and goes down from there. Scott Boras dominates this show, kind of like he dominates the offseason. In between quotes from this week's Boras Press Conference, the crew discusses whether the Cubs are in or out of the free agent market, who the Cardinals should sign to be the Big Bat in the middle of their order, and if Joe Maddon is on his way out or just in the hot seat. The full extended version is available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/7TlIgokeFyc.
The Grand Slam is back for a second week in a row, and they cover the first week of the offseason, talking about their reactions to the World Series, contract options being picked up (or not), Clayton Kershaw, the Brewers, and of course, the West Coast Cardinals. Padres gonna Padre.
We have issues. Lots of them. 1) Pete is back. 2) All of us are here. 3) Will the Dodgers win one game in this World Series? 4) Who is Harper more valuable to: The Cards or the Cubs? 5) San Diego. 6) What's wrong with the game? 7) We make Brecklyn uncomfortable at some point. 8) We really were awful tonight.
It's a very dark podcast this week, as both the Cubs' and Cards' seasons have come to a close. Elliott and Pete lay out their shortcomings of Cubs skipper Joe Maddon, and their admiration for Theo Epsteisn's forthrightness at his season-ending press conference. Brecklyn and Ron then jump in to contrast Theo's determination with John Mozeliak's "comfort".
The Team was at full strength this week! Ron, Pete, Elliott, and Brecklyn brought the business! They discussed the most recent match-ups, and the importance of the weekend that looms ahead of both Cubs and Cardinals Nation. Drink it in, people! Drink. It. In!
Elliott is M.I.A. Have you seen him? Brecklyn, Ron, and Pete get together this week to discuss pimped doubles, Nostalgia Night, Minor League Champions, Milwaukee Gollum, and the remaining playoff race.
Elliott and Ron kick off this episode with some nonsense before Pete dials in while on the road home. They talk Brandon Morrow, Josh Donaldson, umps who hate Joe Maddon, and Ohtani's arm unraveling. They eventually come to their senses to reclaim their honor. Enjoy!
Adam Maurer guests as the guys TRIED - they really did! - to talk about the MVP status of Javier Baez and Matt Carpenter; Shohei Ohtani's latest SHO-stopper homerun; Jayson Werth and Scott Boras; and the San Diego Rule Fives!
The guys had to gather at an uncommon day of the week to talk through this absolutely insane trade deadline where we witnessed an uncommon amount of transactions! To help them make sense of this chaos, they called in Kyle Reis of Birds on the Black and Chris from Cardinals Nation 24/7. Kyle didn't disappoint at all as he gave his analysis and takes on what the Cardinals dealt for, interspersed with Cubs talk, and the delicate Yu Darvish situation. So much fun on this night. Enjoy!
In this episode Nat talks about his struggles with time management, feeling like he never had enough time and how he was able to get rid of time management for a better framework. We also look at Lincoln's example of leadership and what we can learn from it, discussing one of Nat's favorite books Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin, as well as an excerpt from Nat's teacher, John-Roger, on leadership (from the seminar Are You Surrendering Your Leadership avail. at MSIA.org)
