Today, I want to talk about what some counselors consider the single most important choice that you'll make in a relationship as it relates to becoming a happy couple. This choice often feels more like a reaction than a decision. So, this morning it would be good for us to see how we’re already making this choice – and maybe, by becoming more aware of it, we will be able to make that choice well. The choice is found in a letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to some Christians in the first century in the City of Corinth. This letter was written primarily to Gentile (non-Jewish) NEW believers who were trying to sort out the whole Christian thing. They were brand-new to this whole "There's only one God” thing, and they were wondering what they were supposed to do with the other gods?” They USED to go to temple and had their religious practice look a certain way. And now, they are finding that Christianity was WAY different.

“If you lean in, will men just look down your blouse?” is the new book and this week on Laughbox we discuss that and a lifetime of laughter with Dr. Gina Barreca! What an honor it was for me to spend some time talking to someone who isn’t afraid to tackle the tough issues and is able to get people to listen because of her smart humor. You’re not going to want to miss this episode! More on Gina… Dr. Gina Barreca has appeared on 20/20, The Today Show, CNN, the BBC, NPR and Oprah to discuss gender, power, politics, and humor. Of the other six books she’s written or co-written, several have been translated into to other languages–including Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, and German. Why Money Transfers Aren’t as Easy as They Used to Be By Douglas Goldstein, CFP®, - helping olim handle U.S. brokerage accounts, including IRS, from Israel If you attempted a money transfer recently, you may have been surprised at the amount of documentation you were asked to provide. Any financial institution can ask for proof as to why you’re moving money. They do this to make sure that they are in compliance with anti-money-laundering regulations. Even law-abiding citizens may need to submit extra proof when they want to transfer funds from one financial institution to another, especially between banks and brokerage firms. Bank accounts enable you to take care of daily money needs: pay bills, write checks, use credit cards, or make automatic bank transfers. An investment account is geared to long-term growth or, depending on the holdings, steady income payments (bond interest, dividends, etc.). Even if you have liquid investments in such an account, moving money in and out can raise suspicion. Possibly suspicious activities even if they are 100% legit Legitimate money transfers may get flagged as suspicious, so be prepared to show extra documentation in the following cases: Sending money to an account with a different name (even to a child) Receiving funds and sending them out again shortly thereafter – for example, to buy a house. Be prepared to show proof, like a contract. Every bank and brokerage house has its own regulations. Before transferring money, make sure you understand what documentation you need to provide and how long it will take the funds to move. While your money is yours, you may need to follow certain rules to access it. Though we can’t eliminate documentation requests, Profile Investment Services, Ltd. deals with money transfers on a regular basis and can advise you about what you can do to make moving your money go more smoothly. They Used to Be Bad to the Bone Basically, Paul doesn't want Christians to worry about all the petty things going down on Earth. Just stay focused on Jesus and all will be well. That means no sex outside of marriage. Don't do impure or lustful stuff or desire evil things. And definitely don't be greedy. It's a tall order. Back when the Colossians were Gentiles, they did all this bad stuff. But now that they're believers, things are different. They shouldn't be angry or cruel or mean or gossipy. They also shouldn't lie. Well, unless a fellow Christian asks if her toga makes her look fat. Christians basically have a whole new wardrobe. They need to put on their holiest ensemble and not those sinful rags from last season. The awesome part is that this means that everyone is equal in God's eyes. He doesn't see a difference between Greeks or Jews or foreigners or slaves or free people. Jesus is cool with everyone. Group hug! Really, just do good stuff. Be compassionate, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Forgive other people. . Don't forget to love. Bottom line, according to Paul: let Jesus be a part of your life, and you'll be happy and awesome and thankful for everything in your life. How about some thoughts for the ladies? Wives, obey your husbands, just like you would obey God himself. But gents, love your wives and don't be huge jerks to them. Kids, listen to your parents. Yeah, they can be lame, but it's the right thing to do. Dads, don't be cruel to your children. You might actually push them to rebel and that would not be good. Just pretend that you're slaving away for God. You'll get your reward in Heaven! We guess that's one thing to look forward to. Don't forget, though—anyone who does the wrong thing will be punished. Fingers crossed that God actually has the whole "owning humans" thing under this "wrong stuff" category.
Matt and Ryan listen to and discuss David Bowie’s “Heroes.” Episode 123: They Used to Send Rockets, Now They Send Krautrockets originally appeared on Overthinking It, the site subjecting the popular culture to a level of scrutiny it probably doesn't deserve. [Latest Posts | Podcast (iTunes Link)]
