III for Isaiah Drone III Panelist: Kendricke Bullard | Elder Renee Logan | Dr. Bethany Hernandez Parks 100 & Beyond Cyber Anti-Bullying Campaign School Re-Entry Teachers of the future will need more government resources to be technically and tactically proficient in cyber anti-bullying prevention strategies. Adolescents in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities have a deficiency in crucial building blocks necessary for combating bullying. The majority of research to enhance positive youth development programs is spent in suburban schools and communities. Some scholars can foresee the government mobilizing existing resources to create a platform for gathering the best online education courses about healthy lifestyles and psychosocial support programs available for schools to choose from. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) or eLearning designers will be a necessary contributor to help combat cyberbullying and other forms of aggressive behaviors originating from education or pedagogy in service-based learning. Elder Renee Logan: What does bullying do to a person's mind, body, and spirit? Dr. Bethany Hernandez Parks: What are some tools that educators can use to keep their learners' empowered, and how can teachers plan on balancing their expectations of learners' development with emotional awareness on the other side of COVID 19? Kendricke Bullard: Have you or anybody you know ever been exposed to cyberbullying? Whether they were a victim, bystander, or even the bully themselves. Dr. Bethany Hernandez Parks: How are you and your staff members connecting new knowledge with previous knowledge to drive the expansion of the virtual classrooms in Public Education? Also, how are multicultural anti-bullying prevention programs influencing school cultures and campus vision? This week we sit down with the most amazing Kristin Bernard of Côtes de Femme and Patti Russo of the Campaign School at Yale University. About Côtes de Femme A thoughtfully created blend, paired with carefully and sustainably managed land, nurtures the grapes from blossom through production to become our wine. Created with our end goal in mind: to share one of the most beautiful locations on earth with those we love. In order for us to share our love, our laughs, and our time with each other, we need to first create a setting where those memories, smells, tastes of epic adventure are bottled and then brought to your glass. The Notes & Flavors A powerful woman deserves a powerful wine. She greets her rose-gold treasure of 14.5% alcohol which matches her presence and command of her surroundings. This AOP Côtes de Provence rosé in her glass transports her to an outdoor oasis where relaxed, sun-filled shade and refreshing summer breezes express the floral notes of summer through carefree dances. She is surrounded by the notes of honeysuckle covered patios, followed by a feeling of walking through a citrus grapefruit orchard. When she finally tastes her Côtes de Femme, she is met with a feeling of drinking this magical one-of-a-kind rosé right off the vine. She can't help but notice the minerality of the unique terroir where the grapes come to life under the Provençal sun. Like her, the wine has strong layers, structured with velvety tannins, expressing an intellectual depth which invites a longer conversation. Her experience moves her to a time in Southern France where she knew she was untethered by the stresses of her days, allowing her to regroup to lead the day tomorrow. Something to Remember Us It is simply not enough to show up to the party.  Life is about the journey, the process, and the flow.  A woman starts living her best life as she is planning her outfit, her arrival, and how her presence will set the tone for the event ahead of her.  Her evening starts long before she arrives at the destination…just like a bottle of Côtes de Femme. So much thought goes into how classy the packaging is of this cherished being.  Smooth curves and shapes. Simple lines and glowing from within. It is easy to see how this woman stands out in a crowd. Côtes de Femme rosé matches the unique, regal presence of the one holding the glass…all the way to the eye-catching jewelry that decorates her neck.  Every bottle is adorned with a bracelet, purposefully designed to be removed from the bottle to decorate the stemware of our queen. A Côtes de Femme woman never leaves the house without looking her absolute best! By wearing her diamonds, she becomes one-of-a-kind, she sets herself on a pedestal, poised for LIVING EXTRA. About the Campaign School at Yale University The Campaign School at Yale University is a nonpartisan, issue-neutral leadership program, whose mission is to increase the number and influence of women in elected and appointed office in the United States and around the globe. Maybe, that's where it all begins....something or someone you care about is being ignored or mistreated, and you decide that it's time to let your voice be heard and fight for what you believe in. Patricia Russo is a powerful and charismatic badass living her truth and helping women gain the confidence to live big and gain experience in leadership positions. Patricia has held leadership positions centered on women’s rights for over 30 years, including her current role as the Executive Director at the Women’s Campaign School At Yale University. She tells us more about this impressive training program, how she went from wanting to be a nun to a life in politics, and the gratitude she has for strong women mentors such as Bella Abzug for showing her the path to badassery in politics.    What You Will Hear in This Episode:  Patty actually did want to be a nun! She grew up in New Jersey, was very active in the church and loved the pageantry of the experience. As a nun in training, she fell from grace (also her mother’s name) when she fell for the boy next door.  While in college, she was a Political Science major at George Washington University and put together a list of female members of Congress she wanted to work for. Despite her witnessing her resume get thrown in the trash and the frenetic pace of politics, she followed an opportunity and ended up working with leading feminist, social activist and leader Bella Abzug. Patty saw firsthand how Bella was the original badass and paved the way for the rest of us along with her other Congressional Pioneer women friends.  Great women leaders help to elevate others and help us realize it’s more about passion and commitment than it is about being liked. The sky's the limit when you build truly connected relationships and stay committed to your vision.  The Women’s Campaign School at Yale creates candidates from the inside out, giving them confidence and a clear sense of self. It also helps them become aware of the gender bias that commonly keeps women playing small, and worried about offending or off-putting someone.  The Women’s Campaign School went from having a median age of 40-45 predominantly white, to ages 29-30 with a majority of women of color as well as 8-10% international students. Badasses challenge the status quo, which is definitely what it takes to enter into politics.  A Key component of the Women’s Campaign School’s success is the mentoring component and support from the network.  Not everyone will be a member of your love tribe, and that’s okay.    Quotes:  “If I’m in a meeting and I’m the only woman in the room, something is terribly wrong.”  “Bella inspired all of us to know we could do whatever we wanted and that the sky isn't the limit.” “You just have to be yourself in the way you want to be present and seen in the world.”  “To be a badass, you need to stay true to who you are, and it’s not easy.” “Having a sense of humor about yourself comes in very handy.”    Mentioned:  Nuns on the Bus  Women’s Campaign School at Yale  @wcsyale  Republican Women for Progress

Most of the women featured on the Happy Black Woman podcast are businesswomen; entrepreneurs who are building their dreams through a successful company. Today’s guest is a bit different. Rebecca Thompson is fulfilling her life-calling by championing a cause: black women in politics. Rebecca’s determination and spirit are a powerful demonstration of what can happen when black woman get energized toward public office. You will be inspired and encouraged - possibly even motivated to get involved in your community's politics - by listening to this episode of the podcast. The face of power tends to be male and it tends to be white. If you haven’t noticed how things are in this world, the faces of power tend to be male and they tend to be white. There’s nothing wrong with that - anyone can be an elected leader in the United States if they truly have the heart to serve the people. But those two facts do show us that the black community, and black women in particular, are underrepresented among the elected officials who have so much power in determining the course of our communities and nation. Rebecca’s realization of that fact is part of what motivated her to run for office and help other black women learn the skills needed to run for office in their jurisdictions. If you want to run for office you need to be clear about WHY you are doing it. There are many reasons you may want to run for office. But if you’re going to put yourself and your family into the public eye in that way you need to be clear on exactly WHY you are doing it. Rebecca Thompson says it’s essential because you will run into moments where it doesn’t seem that what you’re doing is worth it. Opponents will falsely accuse you. You will be slandered. The press will have unreasonable questions and demands. How are you going to persevere if that’s the case? You’ll do it by having a clear sense of WHY. Rebecca Thompson is Rosetta’s guest on this episode of Happy Black Woman. You don’t have to know how you’re going to raise the money. One of the major hurdles you’ll have to get past if you are going to run for elected office is the issue of money. You will need money to run a successful campaign - a LOT of it. How are you going to raise money if you don’t feel that you have a public persona already? Rebecca Thompson was in those exact shoes when she decided to run for office and her approach was much more successful than you might think it would be for a first-time candidate. Rebecca shares her fundraising strategy and tells the results of her demanding and powerful campaign, on this episode. What is your freedom worth to you? When Rosetta asked Rebecca Thompson about the ways she keeps herself on track in the midst of a busy life Rebecca said that she has to remind herself first of all that she’s working to maintain her own freedom. When that’s clear in her mind she has to ask herself a simple question and give an honest answer. “What is my freedom worth?” Is it worth missing a favorite TV show because she needs to work on an important project? Is it worth going to bed late or rising early? Those are the kinds of questions anyone has to ask themselves if they want a better life than they have - or if they want to make an impact like Rebecca does by encouraging black women in politics. You can hear Rebecca’s inspiring story on this episode. Outline of this great episode [0:30] Rosetta’s introduction to Rebecca Thompson, host of the Changing the Face of Power podcast.
