Photo by Autumn De Wilde Busy Philipps, New York Times Best-Selling author, actor, activist, and mother, is our guest today on the Hoffman Podcast. Listen in as Busy speaks with Drew about her time at the Process. Busy tells us that through the Process she found her way out of awareness hell, something we learn about at the Process. (Listen in to learn about awareness hell.) She also gained Process tools and practices she now uses each day. Busy now experiences a beautiful space where peace and freedom exist. Passionate and articulate, Busy also shares about her activism around reproductive justice. We are grateful for this conversation. MORE ABOUT BUSY PHILIPPS Busy currently stars in the comedy series GIRLS5EVA, produced by Tina Fey, now streaming on Peacock. The series centers on a one-hit-wonder girl group from the '90s who try for another chance at pop stardom. In 2020, Philipps launched her podcast Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best. The show features conversations between Philipps and her creative partner, Caissie St. Onge, and their guests, who reflect on times in their lives when a setback led to better opportunities. From 2018 to 2019, Philipps was the host of the late-night talk show BUSY TONIGHT. Philipps served as executive producer on the show, alongside Tina Fey. In 2018, Philipps released a collection of humorous autobiographical essays in her book THIS WILL ONLY HURT A LITTLE that was immediately a New York Times Best Seller the first week. The book offers unfiltered and candid stories and was published by Simon and Schuster's Touchstone division. Philipps has also used her voice as an advocate and activist. In 2019, she joined the Advisory Board of SeeHer, testified before Congress on reproductive rights after publicly discussing her own abortion, and launched the #youknowme campaign on social media. On the big screen, Philipps was in the STX romantic comedy, I FEEL PRETTY, opposite Amy Schumer and Michelle Williams. She also appeared in Joel Edgerton's thriller THE GIFT, alongside Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall. On television, Philipps was seen in HBO's VICE PRINCIPALS, an 18-episode comedy from the creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill. She also starred opposite Courteney Cox on the popular TBS comedy COUGAR TOWN where she played ‘Laurie Keller.' AS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Bashing: Bashing is a form of cathartic release. It's a powerful and pivotal experience in the Process week. This kind of release supports us in acknowledging, expressing, and transforming strong emotions which may have previously been denied. Expressing emotions like anger or disappointment in this way, we release them from the body. We use the body and our voice to express what we no longer want to hold within us. The more deeply we move into expression, the more space we clear. This creates room to experience forgiveness and compassion. Release work also allows us to feel calm and be able to deal with situations in a  manner. It can stop us from taking our ‘stuff' out on others, too! In so doing, we claim our power and freedom. Busy Philipps always knew she would be an actress. In fact, she was studying theater in college when she landed her first major role as Kim Kelly on the coming-of-age hit Freaks and Geeks. While she found success early on at the age of 19, her career hasn't been without setbacks, rejection, and grit. "I never have really fit into a lot of people's molds," she tells Hillary Kerr on episode 35 of Second Life. But Philipps persevered in a male-dominated industry fraught with unrealistic expectations to come out the other side more sure of herself than ever.

No new movies this week... but we still have a lot to talk about with pay-per-view movies and TV!  First, I am getting John caught up on some summer movies that I already saw, so we start with The Spy Who Dumped Me and TAG.  John gives his input on these movies.  And no real surprise, he really enjoyed them both!   Next, I saw Searching and RBG and I give my thoughts on both.  Searching is one of the best mystery movies I have seen in a while and I loved the twists and turns.  And then RBG is a documentary that I recommend to every person in this country.   Moving on to TV, I give my opinion on this season of Better Call Saul.  Then I watched the Netflix show The Haunting of Hill House.  Very creepy, but ultimately a good family story.  Next, I urge everyone to watch Arrow.  This season's opener was so incredibly good and I think if you haven't watched the previous seasons, you could start watching now.  It really is the best show in the Arrowverse.   Since the fall TV season is in full swing, I talk about my disappointment with the network shows (less all CW shows) and how I haven't found a new network show this year that I love.  It's really a bummer because many I have already stopped watching and the others, if they were to be canceled, I wouldn't care.  But there are many new cable and streaming shows that I am loving:  Kidding, You, The Purge, Doctor Who and AHS:Apocalypse.   Did you know that I can read too???  I don't very often, but I love biographies and here I talk about a book that just came out this week by Busy Philipps called This Will Only Hurt A Little.  It's a fantastic read and she tells the truth about her experiences in early life and then in Hollywood.  Definitely recommended.   Finally, we finish with the Actors' Corner and this week we chose Denzel Washington.  This was the toughest round we have had so far to choose his movies that we love, like, hate, haven't seen, and want to watch.   The Spy Who Dumped Me (2:00)   Dhani ★★★★1/4   John ★★★★ TAG (9:12) Searching...  (12:48)  ★★★★1/2 RBG   (18:57) ★★★★★ Better Call Saul (23:23) The Haunting of Hill House (27:15) The Romanoffs (33:43) Arrow (35:12) New Shows I Am Not Enjoying (36:90) Returning Shows I Love (39:00) New Shows I Like (41:15) This Will Only Hurt A Little (47:14) Actors' Corner: Denzel Washington (52:00)
