In this episode, originally recorded in November 2012, Alec talks with writer and actress Paula Pell – who made people laugh at Saturday Night Live for 18 years. Pell landed her dream job as a writer at SNL after working at a Florida theme park. Her agent told her that Lorne Michaels wanted to meet her – “it is not an audition, but he wants to fly you up and talk to you.” Pell wasn’t sure what she was headed up for, but she got a job writing for the show. Dave Hill is a comedian, writer, musician, actor, radio host, and man-about-town originally from Cleveland, Ohio but now living in New York City in a totally sweet apartment with a party deck and everything. Hot chicks come over to hang out and eat cheese plates and stuff with him all the time and it's awesome.   Anyway, on the show business front, Dave has appeared on Netflix's The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Adult Swim's Joe Pera Talks with You Amazon's The Tick, Peacock TV's Girls5Eva, Comedy Central's @midnightand Inside Amy Schumer programs, TBS' Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, TV Land's The Jim Gaffigan Show, and TruTV's Comedy Knockout among a bunch of others. He is a frequent on-air host for HBO and Cinemax and has been on channels like MTV, VH1, BBC-America, and the Sundance Channel a whole bunch too. Dave also starred in his own television program The King of Miami on the Mojo Network, which was cancelled even though Dave really liked it. The show also aired in the United Kingdom on Sky TV's Film24 Channel. And you can still watch The King of Miami on Hulu too, which Dave is super pumped about. Oh, and Dave was a correspondent on Hoppus on Music starring Blink 182's Mark Hoppus on the Fuse channel, which ruled. Meredith Scardino is the creator and showrunner of the Netflix TV series Girls5eva. Born and raised outside of Philadelphia, from a young age, Meredith was encouraged by her parents to pursue all types of art, and tried everything from cartooning classes (and watching Saturday Night Live) to painting classes in high school. She earned a bachelors degree in fine arts from Cornell before moving to New York City to pursue a masters in painting from the Parsons School of Design. There, her world opened up, as she took improv classes and writing electives at Parsons alongside her painting classwork. Scardino then landed a job creating animated comedy shorts, which combined her love for painting with her growing talent for comedy writing. Soon, she decided she wanted to pursue comedy writing full-time and quickly landed a writing gig at VH1's Best Week Ever. Stints at the Late Show With David Letterman and The Colbert Report followed before she jumped into narrative TV by working on The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In 2021, she created her own show, Girls5eva, about a one-hit-wonder girl group that gets a chance at redemption decades after their initial fame.
