Tony-nominated actor Grey Henson joins Alan for an engaging conversation about his journey through the world of Broadway comedy. Grey reflects on his rise from a Georgia-born performer with a background in ballet to a Tony-nominated role as Damian Hubbard in Mean Girls: The Musical. He opens up about the challenges of transitioning into comedic roles, including his current portrayal of Buddy the Elf in Elf: The Musical on Broadway. Grey shares the importance of embracing your unique qualities and how his comedic style evolved through his experiences in high school theater, college at Carnegie Mellon, and professional work. Throughout the episode, Grey discusses the impact of comedy on his career and the importance of balancing preparation with spontaneity. He talks about his time in Shucked, a show that required him to be constantly aware of the audience's reactions and how that shaped his performance. The conversation also touches on his thoughts on comedy in general—how it should feel effortless and truthful rather than forced—and how he brings that mentality into every role, from Mean Girls to Elf. Grey also dives into the reality of performing eight shows a week, the pressures of portraying iconic characters, and how the key to a long career in theater is remaining grounded and generous to your scene partners. Grey Henson is a Tony-nominated actor best known for his comedic roles on Broadway. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon's prestigious School of Drama, Grey first made a name for himself as Elder McKinley in the Book of Mormon first national tour before joining the Broadway company. He later earned a Tony Award nomination for his standout performance as Damian Hubbard in Mean Girls: The Musical. Grey has also appeared in Shucked, playing Storyteller Two, and most recently, he's been bringing holiday cheer as Buddy the Elf in Elf: The Musical on Broadway. Tina Fey, a colossus of the comedy world for more than two decades, is also the creative force behind Mean Girls. The original movie in 2004, starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, spawned a Broadway musical in 2018, and many of the songs were featured in this year's modern movie remake. Tina is now bringing an updated stage version of Mean Girls The Musical to London, opening at the Savoy Theatre this week. She joins Nuala. Welcome to your Paulding County News Podcast.  I'm Melissa Carter, along with Doug Harding.  Some advice for your football gathering this evening.  Plus, will we get a tax free holiday for weapons.  We'll get your take on it.  But first, let's take a look at our top stories.    PC News    A new warning for a scam targeting Paulding County residents.   Some neighbors are being contacted, claiming they've missed court appearances and demanding payment via prepaid gift cards.  These scammers are instructing victims to leave the gift cards in mailboxes outside the Dallas Post Office.   Officials reiterate…this is a scam.  Remember, legitimate legal entities will never demand payment via prepaid gift cards.     This from the Paulding County Sheriff's office.    PC News  The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Georgia Presidential Primary is swiftly approaching - tomorrow is the last day to register.  To be eligible to register, you must meet certain criteria: be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of the county, and at least 17 and a half years old (though you must be 18 to vote).   Additionally, individuals serving a felony sentence or deemed mentally incompetent by a judge are ineligible to register.  Visit the Georgia Secretary of State's website for more information and to access registration forms.  The primary is scheduled for March 12th, with advance voting available from February 19th to March 8th.  This from WRGA.    PC News    Atlanta Braves mascot Blooper paid a special visit for a Health and Wellness Check at Nebo Elementary School last week.  Blooper's Home Run University made its mark at Nebo, marking only the second school in the state to receive this honor.   The assembly brought together students and teachers alike, emphasizing the importance of exercise, healthy eating, proper rest, and the joy of learning.  This from the Paulding County School District.    Weather  Rain continues today, High of 64 in Dallas and Hiram.  Lows in the mid-50's.  More rain Monday, with a High in Dallas of 66, 65 in Hiram.  Lows in the upper 50's.  Tuesday the rain moves out with cooler temperatures.  High in the 50's and Lows in the 30's    Arrest Report    From the Paulding County Sherriff's office Facebook page:    Agents apprehended multiple wanted individuals and seized a substantial amount of narcotics, including fentanyl, marijuana, and over 90 grams of methamphetamine.  Among those arrested were Joshua Hicks, Sherod Birdsong, and Brandon Florence.   Birdsong, in particular, faces additional charges related to a previous case involving stolen firearms and unregistered suppressors.  Melanie Buchanan  Stop letting them out. It's that simple. One of these men was in the other drug bust y'all posted about and YET here we are AGAIN. We are wasting time and money if we keep letting them back out.    Penny Sue Goodell  Judges set bond and they are elected by the people. If you want change then make it happen by getting involved.    Grant Troupe  Why feed em? Let em polish off that fentanyl and save some tax payer money! Come on now.      Social Media    From WSB's Facebook page:    Could Georgia soon have a tax-free holiday for guns? The state Senate passed a bill that would do exactly that if it becomes law.    Christy Gregerson Godwin  Oh go right ahead and advertise for more people to get guns and ammo. There is already an issue with shootings so let's go ahead and make more appealing.    Michael Stenerson  Should be on a federal level in all 50 states.    Kathy Pitts Dorough  Stupid is as stupid does.      Weird Story  Scott Mannke recently embarked on a day of metal detecting by a river in Maine, hoping for treasures.  And he found one, a tungsten ring.  When he tried to sell it he received a message from a stranger, who had an interest in its discovery too.  She explained it was her ex-husband's and that he apparently tossed it in the river.  Obviously, she was not interested in buying it.  A reminder that sometimes, lost things are meant to stay lost.  This from Atlanta News First.    Events  This afternoon at 2pm - the final performance of Paulding County High School's Mean Girls: The Musical.    This afternoon beginning at 3p - Super Bowl party at DD & Company Inc - Smoke Lounge in Hiram.    This evening starting at 5p - Online Auction at Prime Storage in Dallas.    State News    A young football player from Acworth is fighting for his life after a medical emergency during a morning workout at Furman University in South Carolina.     According to Furman's head coach, Bryce Stanfield experienced the emergency at Paladin Stadium and is currently on life support in critical condition.     Stanfield, a junior defensive tackle and health science major, is known for his contributions to the football team's success, having played in all 13 games last fall.     Counseling services are available for students, and the university advises against gathering at the hospital due to limited space.     This from 11 Alive.    Sports    From Hiram High School and 11 Alive:    Congratulations to Hiram's five freshman who all won third place in their categories at the Cobb/Paulding regional Science Fair at Lovinggood Middle School - Taviyana Swain, Madison Hodge, Katharine Riggs, Sean Shead and Tra'Von Glenn.    It's Super Bowl Sunday! It will air live on CBS, and stream on CBS's sister streaming app, Paramount+,  Game time is at 6:30p.     If you have an over-the-air antenna, your TV should get CBS.     Nickelodeon will also air a family-friendly broadcast of the game, incorporating fan-favorite characters into the show.    PC News  Are you gearing up to host the big game this evening? Here's some advice…  Keep it cozy with 10-15 friends, but watch out for party crashers.  Stick with close friends and avoid awkward coworkers who might spill more than their drinks.  Cleanliness is key, folks! Impress your guests with spotless bathrooms and a clutter-free living space.  When it comes to drinks, stock up on ice and keep it light with beers that won't leave your guests snoozing by halftime.  Start your party no more than 90 minutes before and keep the halftime show volume up.  Avoid social media, collect cell phones if needed, and don't stress about the cleanup until tomorrow.  This from Fox News. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
