Hankies at the ready, Baguettes, it's time for our new miniseries, TISSUE BOX OFFICE! Today, we discuss the concept of the term 'weepie', what qualifies as a weepie and a classic of the genre, 1970's Love Story. Harvard Law student Oliver Barrett IV and music student Jennifer Cavilleri share a chemistry they cannot deny - and a love they cannot ignore. Despite their opposite backgrounds, the young couple put their hearts on the line for each other. When they marry, Oliver's wealthy father threatens to disown him. Jenny tries to reconcile the Barrett men, but to no avail. (Sourced from Letterboxd). Is Love Story an absolute cheesefest? Will we weep? And is there any film out there that couldn't be re-titled to 'Til Death?? Pop corner kernels this episode include Sketchbook Coffee on Taranaki St, Downie Express, Wytchwood, Weapons (2025), 20th Century Women (2016), Ethel Cain's Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You and Renee Rapp's Bite Me.

Send us a text"American Idol" winner Abi Carter called in to talk about her appearance on PBS's "A Capitol Fourth," her new album, and her upcoming appearance in Chicago at the Beat Kitchen on October 23rd.ABI CARTERBIO After charming judges, audiences, and voters during her journey on Season 22 of American Idol, singer-songwriter Abi Carter went from hopeful auditioner to season winner in a matter of weeks. With the release of her 2024 album, ghosts in the backyard, the Coachella Valley native officially introduced herself as a confident, layered artist in her own right. The nostalgia-ridden 10-track LP is a narrative, story-driven collection of music that allows listeners to get to know the person behind the powerful voice that won over millions during her Idol journey. Abi wrote on every song on the project, processing her own youth from a distance in the hopes that others might feel encouraged in their own journeys. “When I wrote this album, it was therapy for myself,” Abi said. “I was trying to work through what I was feeling and thinking, and it was cathartic for me. If other people can feel that and relate to my emotions, that would be ‘mission accomplished' — even if it just reaches one person.” The second-oldest in a family of seven kids, Abi was raised in a musical household. Growing up, she sang just about anywhere she could, but it was learning piano that changed the trajectory of her life. Her skill on the instrument is near virtuosic and remains infused into every aspect of her music-making process, including the genre-blending elements of ghosts in the backyard. Abi refuses to let herself be boxed in. She embraces influences like Phoebe Bridgers, Manchester Orchestra, Gracie Abrams, and Renee Rapp, playing with indie-pop, folk, and cinematic drama throughout her discography. Regardless of genre elements, it's the raw earnestness to Abi's voice that consistently sets her apart — it's something that can only be informed by performing from the very bottom of one's soul. Abi is the rare artist that exists in the crossover of being born with natural talent and having the technical skill set to back it up. “I believe in the things I sing,” she confirms. “I try not to sing just because it sounds pretty; the best singers connect with what they're saying. That's what moves people.”

In the Season 2 finale, I'm mixing things up with a super fun and unpredictable episode! I'm letting my phone take the wheel, putting iTunes on shuffle, and letting it decide which songs I'll talk about. My playlist is all over the map—so who knows what's going to pop up? From bops to ballads, guilty pleasures to all-time favorites, I'll be diving into the first eleven songs that show up. I'll spill the tea on why they're on my playlist, share some fun facts about each track, and maybe even uncover some surprises along the way. It's going to be a musical adventure, and hopefully, it'll give you a peek into my world through the songs that make up my life's soundtrack. Let's hit shuffle and see where it takes us! This week, Kate is answering listener voicemails, like dishing on the culinary delight of buffalo chicken wraps while exploring the dynamics of grilled vs. breaded chicken. Then, she discusses how she thinks people conflate data about screen time overuse with general screen time use and rants about not buying into the “mom guilt.” She also delves into hot pop culture topics, including Taylor Swift's chart strategies against artists like Billie Eilish and Charli XCX, and revisits Olivia Rodrigo's song “The Grudge.” She also discusses the new “It girls” of pop, like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Renee Rapp, and finishes answering a question about her plans for Teddy to have siblings. We're bringing back one of our fan-favorite episodes today: a conversation with the multi-hyphenate Renee Rapp! We get into everything that the music world entails from present-day icons to how to break into the industry, and we do it all with banter and a level of dry humor that you know only Renee herself can pull off! There is something so special about the art form of music, don't you think? Music helps document big and small moments of our lives, whether it's blasting a break up song to heal your broken heart, or slow dancing to a love song at your wedding. But what about the process of making those songs? What's it like for artists to put their heart and soul into their music for the world to hear? This week, we are talking to Renee Rapp all about the creative process of making an album. We get into our creative influences, or biggest fears, and why it's okay to have Imposter Syndrome. Plus we play “Quickies with Keke” with Renee and her thoughts on Taylor Swift vs Beyonce might surprise you!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Do us and the world a favor. Go to your window and shout out "TINA FEY is on Las Culturistas!" Because it's true and everyone should know! Wish fulfillment is defined this week as Matt and Bowen welcome Great American Tina Fey to discuss Countess Luann fandom, Molly Ringwald's career as a transcriber of French novels, starting out at SNL in the tough-as-hell 90's, watching Benny Hill as a family, the beginning of MTV, Blockbuster culture, and the era of soda, hoagies and no fitness. All this, Disney v. Universal, SJP's 90's film work, Rachel McAdams's impact as Regina George, how Mean Girls was written on Fire Island, what makes the best SNL hosts and the joys and dangers of hosting the Golden Globes. Also, discovering the Tina and Amy magic and bringing that to the road on their Restless Leg Tour (go see it!!!), Reneé Rapp and how the Jimmy Awards are the future, deodorant culture, and a very prescient IDTSH from Tina that ranks as an all-timer. How many mozzarella sticks is enough for you? Something to think about. TINA!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
