This year marks the 51st anniversary since the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Roe v. Wade, protecting the constitutional right to abortion in 1973. Unfortunately, this anniversary is marred by the overturn of Roe by the Supreme Court in 2022, resulting in the continued denial of the power to make personal medical decisions during pregnancy for millions of people in states across the country. In 2024, our fight for reproductive freedom continues. In the last several weeks, the Supreme Court announced that it would hear two abortion-related cases this term, potentially impacting access to medication abortion and whether people can receive care when facing medical emergencies. This fight requires all of us, and today we're excited to speak with two advocates about what we can all do to advance reproductive rights in our communities. First up, we have actor and writer Busy Philipps, who is joining the ACLU as an artist ambassador for reproductive freedom. You may recognize Busy from shows like “Freaks and Geeks,” “Girls 5Eva,” and “Busy Tonight,” and the new remake of the movie “Mean Girls.” Offscreen, Busy has engaged in years of advocacy with the ACLU in states like Ohio and Texas. She joins us today to share her journey as an activist alongside J.J. Straight, the ACLU's national campaigns director for reproductive freedom, who has led many of our state and nationwide fights for abortion access and been busier than ever since the overturn of Roe. Together, we'll discuss what the new year has in store for reproductive freedom and our continued fight for bodily autonomy at large.

Dinner’s on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson

“Girls5Eva” star and the host of “Busy Tonight”, Busy Philipps joins the show. Over chilaquiles and tacos, Busy discusses her separation from Marc, her activism around reproductive justice and sexual assault, and her child Birdie's recent obsession with “Modern Family.” This episode was recorded at Comodo (within The Freehand Hotel) in New York City's Flatiron District. Take us away because we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of Freaky Friday (2003), the iconic Disney flick starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who swap bodies and are forced to live in each other's shoes. Throughout their day, they have their run-ins with school bullies, interesting therapy clientele, and love interests while navigating talk show appearances, wedding rehearsal dinners and band auditions. Buckle in for this episode because it starts off with Kaitlyn and Jeremy swapping bodies, themselves! Plus, since we're talking about a Disney movie, Jeremy tries not to use any naughty words. The results are interesting. During our discussion of Freaky Friday (2003), we talk about: Comparisons to the other versions of Freaky Friday, including the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, 1976 original film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, the 1995 made-for-TV film starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann, the 2016 stage musical starring Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton, and the 2018 Disney Channel Original Movie starring Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. How the “body-swap genre” works better in TV and film vs. books, plus callbacks to memorable body-swap stories on Charmed and (of course) Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Chad Michael Murray rocking long hair. Is it ethical for Jake to date Anna? Is Jake even a student?? Problematic depictions about mental health and the use of the word “crazy” in an ableist context. Racist Asian stereotypes behind Pei Pei (Rosalind Chao), Pei Pei's mom (Lucille Soong), and the staff of the House of Chang restaurant. Surprise! The Pink Slit song, “Take Me Away,” performed by Christina Vidal is actually a cover of a song by the Australian alternative punk rock group, Lash. Justice for Christina Vidal's one-season wonder Nickelodeon television show, Taina! Our personal experiences with “earthquakes” (note the giant air quotes!). More talk about how Gen Z doesn't use flat sheets, for some reason. How the Stacey (Julie Gonzalo) character doesn't really receive her comeuppance...except she does in a deleted scene that we didn't know about until after we finished recording. Kaitlyn getting very offended seeing a teacher do a crossword puzzle in the teacher's lounge. Jamie Lee Curtis being gender goals. This movie's connection to the original Freaky Friday film from 1976. The Bowling for Soup cover of “...Baby One More Time,” which triggers lots of Britney Spears talk. That time Chad Michael Murray made out with Jamie Lee Curtis (Quick fact check: Jeremy incorrectly stated that the interview was with Entertainment Tonight. It was actually Busy Tonight!) Whether this movie really needed Chad Michael Murray's character. A potential Freaky Friday 2? You can listen to the full episode by subscribing at the $5 level over at patreon.com/alwaysothpod. Photo by Autumn De Wilde Busy Philipps, New York Times Best-Selling author, actor, activist, and mother, is our guest today on the Hoffman Podcast. Listen in as Busy speaks with Drew about her time at the Process. Busy tells us that through the Process she found her way out of awareness hell, something we learn about at the Process. (Listen in to learn about awareness hell.) She also gained Process tools and practices she now uses each day. Busy now experiences a beautiful space where peace and freedom exist. Passionate and articulate, Busy also shares about her activism around reproductive justice. We are grateful for this conversation. MORE ABOUT BUSY PHILIPPS Busy currently stars in the comedy series GIRLS5EVA, produced by Tina Fey, now streaming on Peacock. The series centers on a one-hit-wonder girl group from the '90s who try for another chance at pop stardom. In 2020, Philipps launched her podcast Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best. The show features conversations between Philipps and her creative partner, Caissie St. Onge, and their guests, who reflect on times in their lives when a setback led to better opportunities. From 2018 to 2019, Philipps was the host of the late-night talk show BUSY TONIGHT. Philipps served as executive producer on the show, alongside Tina Fey. In 2018, Philipps released a collection of humorous autobiographical essays in her book THIS WILL ONLY HURT A LITTLE that was immediately a New York Times Best Seller the first week. The book offers unfiltered and candid stories and was published by Simon and Schuster's Touchstone division. Philipps has also used her voice as an advocate and activist. In 2019, she joined the Advisory Board of SeeHer, testified before Congress on reproductive rights after publicly discussing her own abortion, and launched the #youknowme campaign on social media. On the big screen, Philipps was in the STX romantic comedy, I FEEL PRETTY, opposite Amy Schumer and Michelle Williams. She also appeared in Joel Edgerton's thriller THE GIFT, alongside Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall. On television, Philipps was seen in HBO's VICE PRINCIPALS, an 18-episode comedy from the creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill. She also starred opposite Courteney Cox on the popular TBS comedy COUGAR TOWN where she played ‘Laurie Keller.' AS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Bashing: Bashing is a form of cathartic release. It's a powerful and pivotal experience in the Process week. This kind of release supports us in acknowledging, expressing, and transforming strong emotions which may have previously been denied. Expressing emotions like anger or disappointment in this way, we release them from the body. We use the body and our voice to express what we no longer want to hold within us. The more deeply we move into expression, the more space we clear. This creates room to experience forgiveness and compassion. Release work also allows us to feel calm and be able to deal with situations in a  manner. It can stop us from taking our ‘stuff' out on others, too! In so doing, we claim our power and freedom. With a best-selling memoir, beloved podcast and insanely popular Instagram account, Busy Philipps was ready to quit acting for good when Tina Fey came along and offered her one of the four lead roles in this summer's breakout comedy hit ‘Girls5eva.' On this episode, Busy opens up about two decades in the entertainment industry that haven't always been easy, from the intense pressure that came with her early days on ‘Freaks and Geeks' and ‘Dawson's Creek' to her prematurely canceled late-night talk show ‘Busy Tonight' on E! She also explains why her best friend Michelle Williams stays far away from social media, shares her reaction to Seth Rogen's decision to stop working with James Franco and explains why she doubts any of Hollywood's predators will ever “fuck with” her again. Tasmania’s own Hannah Gadsby stopped stand-up comedy in its tracks with her multi award winning show, Nanette, which played to sold out houses in Australia, the UK and New York. Its launch on Netflix, and subsequent Emmy win, took Nanette (and Hannah) to the world. Hannah’s difficult second album (which was also her eleventh solo show) was named Douglas after her dog. Hannah walked Douglas around the world, selling out the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Opera House in Sydney and the Kennedy Center in DC, a sit down run in New York and shows across the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.  Douglas was an Emmy nominated smash hit, moving beyond the trauma at the centre of Nanette and instead letting the world see the view from Hannah’s brain – one that sees the world differently but with breathtaking clarity. The show covered Hannah’s autism diagnosis, cleared up some confusion regarding a penguin, lectured some great masters, and saw the patriarchy needled with various levels of vigour. Douglas is available throughout the world on Netflix, recorded in Los Angeles. Hannah has done plenty of other things over the course of more than a decade in comedy, but that will do for now. Lisa Renee Pitts is an actress with many credits to her name. Her off-Broadway and Regional Theater credits include The Father (Pasadena Playhouse) starring Alfred Molina, Tiny Beautiful Things and Doubt (Portland Center Stage / Critics Circle Award) A Raisin in the Sun (Virginia Stage Company / NAACP Theater Award Nominee), Intimate Apparel (San Diego Rep / Critics Circle Award), and more. On Broadway she appeared in the Tony nominated play Sweat by Lynn Nottage. On film and television she’s taken on roles and projects like Dr. Dre’s mother, Verna, in Straight Outta Compton (Dir. F. Gary Gray)  True to the Game 1 & 2 (Dirs. Preston Whitmore & Jamal Hill); Baselines (Dir Nate Parker) XX (Dir. Karyn Kusama); and Her (Dir. Spike Jones).  And up next, Lisa will appear in Stephen King's "The Stand" based on his best selling novel starring Whoopi Goldberg. As a multi-award winning narrator Lisa has narrated well over 100 audiobooks spanning all genres. Lisa holds a BFA degree from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Topics covered include: humane disposal of spiders, the worrisome trend of referring to podcasts as "pods", the reality TV show Sixty Days In, Ru Paul's Drag Race, some very humorous darts anecdotes, Bruce Springsteen, DDP Yoga, and unsolicited dick pics (are they ever solicited?) The end result is a very lively episode of the Feckin' Check-In. Tony certainly did his homework here. Enjoy!

Pictured: The main gate at Paramount Pictures. It may seem impossible to get to the other side of any movie studios’ walls and into scripted editorial...but I promise it’s not as difficult as you think.     Let’s get real: Making a major career transition is hard. You’ve spent perhaps a decade or more honing and perfecting your craft, building a network of contacts and clients, and you’re at the top of the ladder...only to realize you’ve climbed the wrong ladder.     If you ask ten different editors who work in narrative television & features about how they broke in or transitioned from a different medium, you’ll get ten completely different answers about how they did it.     Even worse, the business pigeonholes us and assumes we can only do ONE THING. Clearly if someone edits reality television (or trailers, or game shows, or YouTube videos, or whatever), they simply could never learn how to edit scripted narrative, right? Right?     In today’s conversation I chat with not one but two seasoned reality editors at the top of their games, Phil Habeger and Toni Ann Carabello, who have decided they are done with reality and want to make a major transition in their careers to scripted.     Except they have NO IDEA how to make the transition.     Working with me in my Optimize Yourself Elite coaching & mentorship program, both Toni Ann and Phil have spent the last four months designing the path that makes sense for each of them. But unfortunately they both were working under the assumption that the only way to break into narrative television and features was to take a step “backwards” to become an assistant editor. This simply isn’t true, and in today’s conversation we do a live coaching call where I walk them through their various options so they can choose the path that makes the most sense for them.     This is a unique glimpse “under the hood” of the process I use with all of my students to design their unique path to success. If you’re interested in working with me for the Fall session and having me in your back pocket for the next four months where I’ll be 100% invested in helping you succeed, applications are open until August 30th. On June 4, Busy Philipps actress, author and host of the talk show "Busy Tonight" testified in Congress about her experience having an abortion at the age of 15. The testimony is part of her condemnation of the new extreme abortion restrictions in states like Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Missouri. During her testimony, Busy also detailed the widespread nature of abortions and the impact these bans would have on women's health. According to Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive health research center, one in four American women will have an abortion before age 45. Today, Busy is asking women who have had abortions to tell their stories as part of a push against anti-abortion legislation being considered and enacted in a number of states. In this episode, we'll be hearing from Busy on her testimony, personal experience and what each of us can do to advocate for a woman's right to choose. -- To check out episodes you missed or learn how to partner with us, visit thefixpodcast.org Sign up for our newsletter: thefixpodcast.org/newsletter This show is produced by Hueman Group Media.

And she proceeded to do a meditation on lady love and knowing your worth in the final two episodes. The biggest take away: "you're running a marathon, but the trick when things go sideways, is to realize the marathon you're actually running."  Melody: Episode 13.5 of Fated Mates called "Freewheeling." It's all about women's bodily autonomy and reproductive issues like pregnancy, miscarriage, still birth, abortion, and more, and centered in romance!    EPISODE SPONSOR! Be sure to pre-order today's sponsor novel Blood Captive by Kim Loraine for just $0.99! books2read.com/bloodcaptive The novel releases on June 17.  Here’s the description: He wanted me for my blood… Living on the run was all I’d ever known. My life was unstable, but at least I wasn’t alone. That all changed when my mother was murdered. I ran from the unknown creatures she’d always feared. Until the day I stopped being afraid. That was my first mistake. Cashel Blackthorne took me as his captive, but more than that, he opened my eyes to the terrible truth of the world. Vampires exist, and I am the key to their salvation. The Blackthorne vampires need my blood but their prince desires more—me. There’s something between us neither of us can deny. He is my captor, but I’ll be his ruin.   PATREON SHOUT OUT!  Michele K, you are a Goofus Bird, a backwards-flying taloned bird of prey that flies backwards and builds your nest upside down. You have a turkey-like head, long green neck with silver scales, a black right wing and a pink left wing, which sounds kind of nuts, but trust us, you’re working it. The Goofus marches to the beat of its own drum. The Goofus is often perceived as silly and aimless, but underestimating you is a big mistake. You know exactly where you’re going and what you’re doing. That’s why you don’t even need to look. Maybe your nest is upside down, or maybe your nest is the only one that’s right-side up.   We're doubling and donating all new and increased Patreon pledges in June and July to the Yellowhammer Fund, so if you're on the fence, now is the time! https://www.patreon.com/heavingbosomspodcast   Indie Podcast Promo:  There Will Be Porn with Cait and Murda!  Vintage Porn recapped by millennial women who are mostly ok with butt stuff. It’s the mostly tingly time of the year... That’s right everyone, we read CHUCK TINGLE! In this episode, we recap Seduced by Dr. Bigfoot, Attorney at Large and Space Raptor Butt Invasion. Can Mark handle his attraction to a mythical creature who’s a lawyer AND a doctor? Will Lance have to spend have to spend his entire time on the planet Zorbus alone, or will he be able to warm up the cold-blooded creature he meets there? Come with us on these journeys to self-discovery, new sexual horizons, and all the semen descriptions you might be able to handle. THEN, if you’re a patron, you get to hear us tell each other about two bonus stories! And, I always feel silly saying this because everything we do is explicit, but this one is EXPLICIT. The text demands and we deliver. Bonus Content: THE WINNER OF THE BUBBLES AND BOOKS GIVEAWAY is Jennifer Sumner! Congrats, Jennifer!  Melody tells everyone about officiating her friend's wedding, dancing her face off, and staying up until 3am like a kid... and the aftermath. We also get into the murky story of national treasure Dr. Chuck Tingle, Banksy of Erotica, why something is exponentially funnier if you aggressively include their professions in the description, the merits and demerits of sex against the window of the 72nd floor, and good goddess we hope all the descriptions of things being gay aren’t meant to be funny in a bad way. It feels too pure to be bad! It brings too much joy! And *Bing Boong Bong* Mythical Creature Safe Sex with Melody and Logistics with Erin. Lady Love Recs: Melody: Try a new fun thing called “Breakfast in Bath.” It’s far superior to Breakfast in Bed because you won’t drop crumbs in your sheets, you get all the bathtime relaxation you want, you start the day exfoliated, and it’s generally amazing. Erin is HORRIFIED, but we have very different bathtime strategies and outlooks. Erin: ERIN NEEDS TO GET SOMETHING OFF HER CHEST. Forever ago, she rec’d a Bare Minerals lipstick that’s made with cocoa powder and NOBODY DID A GODDAMNED THING. Now there’s apparently a “cult lipstick” that Melody rec’d WAY LATER and it’s been quietly “grinding [her] gears.” Wait no, her Lady Love is an episode of Busy Tonight with Busy Philipps. On the episode with Emily Ratajkowski where they do a bit about the weirdest things women have ever found in their bras that had her DYING with laughter. This week starts off with allergies and strange words... but I think we get it together long enough to discuss a few things that were watched this week.   First, Dhani talks about watching the movie The Darkest Minds.  She liked the performances, but the story still lacked a bit of explanation.  Next, Dhani talks about the documentary Three Identical Strangers and the horrific twist that these siblings discover about their lives and adoption story.  It's quite fascinating and everyone should check out this movie.   Next, before moving on to TV, we talk about an exciting cross-promotion we are doing with another podcast called Pop Culture Nickel.  Dhani gave them 5 thanksgiving epsiodes of Friends for them to rank on their podcast before Thanksgiving and then we will compare their rankings to our own.  Listen to their promo and check them out! Moving on to TV, Dhani first discusses binging the new series Homecoming on Amazon Prime with Julia Roberts.  She loved the direction by Sam Esmail more than the story... but it all truly worked well together and she was intrigued by the series as a whole.   Then we talk about the new late night show called Busy Tonight hosted by Busy Philipps.  Both John and Dhani have really enjoyed the first week's episodes and find it to be very fresh and new.   Finally, Dhani surmises about the depressing show A Million Little Things.  She doesn't think she can take one more sad thing happening on this show.  They are trying too hard and she can't even find the sympathy for the characters anymore! And then we get into the Actor's Corner and this week we chose Julia Roberts.   We share the projects of hers that we love, like, hate, haven't seen and want to see.   The Darkest Minds (1:21) ★★★ Three Identical Strangers (8:15) ★★★★ PROMO: Pop Culture Nickel (18:00) Homecoming (22:05) Busy Tonight (32:08) A Million Little Things (39:13) Actor's Corner: Julia Roberts (46:40)
