Do you need a lesson in acting with a little bit of supernatural thrown in? Well today we have that exact movie for you to watch, and hear our thoughts about! We're going back to 1994, almost thirty years ago, in order to revisit a few high profile actors in Interview with the Vampire!"Born as an 18th-century lord, Louis is now a bicentennial vampire, telling his story to an eager biographer. Suicidal after the death of his family, he meets Lestat, a vampire who persuades him to choose immortality over death and become his companion. Eventually, gentle Louis resolves to leave his violent maker, but Lestat guilts him into staying by turning a young girl -- whose addition to the "family" breeds even more conflict." With Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Kirsten Dunst, Christian Slater, and more, how do you go wrong? Now, keep in mind that this movie is definitely not the action packed vampire movie that you might be used to at this point in our lives, it is still a lesson in how to be tame with the supernatural and STILL make a good movie! Go watch the movie and see if you agree, and better yet, go read the books that this movie was based off of, The Vampire Chonicles! Well I'm not sure what tier superhero's that we've delved into, but we are diving deeper and deeper into the Marvel comic book lore! Maybe just two years ago nobody would have thought that we would be getting a Moon Knight series, and here we are!! We're talking about the Disney+ series, Moon Knight!! "Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector." At the time of this recording, the second episode had JUST released. We were mostly covering the show based off of the first episode only, with a tiny bit of talk of the second episode, and some discussion about where the future of the series will take us! This series is one of the shortest that Marvel will release, with only 6 episodes. Also, now, Marvel has come out and said that this will also be a limited series, meaning that there is not likely to be a season 2! What do you think of the series so far, at this point? Thinking Outside The Long Box

Do you remember all the way back to 2001, when the original Halo came out for the Xbox? Since that point there has been almost 18 different video games/expansions that have come out to make this world even bigger! This did not include making the jump to the small screen, until now! Today's episode is all about the Paramount+ series, Halo! "Halo is set to follow "an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future." Halo sets itself up as a large world, where many different civilizations are under the umbrella of the United Nations Space Command. The UNSC is also embattled in a war with the Covenant! The best asset that the UNSC has now, is Master Chief. On a mission Master Chief comes in contact with an ancient ruin of some sort that the Covenant is after, and the hold that the UNSC has on him starts to break, and all hell ensues! Dark Horse Comic Books was founded by Mike Richardson in 1986!! Dark Horse one of the more recognizable comic book creators in the world today, of course maybe only less recognizable by the GIANT two brands!! In 1988, still riding the wave of the the super successful movie Aliens, came along a comic book to help keep moving Dark Horse forward!  "Aliens is a line of several comic books set in the fictional universe of the Alien films published by Dark Horse Comics from 1988 forward. The stories often feature the company Weyland-Yutani and the United States Colonial Marines. Originally intended as a sequel to James Cameron's 1986 film Aliens, the first mini-series features the characters of Rebecca "Newt" Jorden and Corporal Dwayne Hicks. Later series also included the further adventures of Ellen Ripley, with other stories being unique to the Alien universe and are often used to explore other aspects of the species, such as their sociology and biology, and also tying into Dark Horse Comics' Predator and Aliens vs. Predator lines." This comic book is supposed to be a direct sequel to the movie, Aliens, and is the first "original" Alien comic book that was created. It's sometimes known as Aliens: Outbreak, and is written by Mark Verheiden, and drawn by Mark A. Nelson! This series follows Rebecca "Newt" Jordan, and Corporal Dwayne Hicks from the original Aliens movie! They are trying to find the Alien homeworld, and as expected, much chaos ensues!! The comic books are definitely worth the read, but are worth a pretty penny right now, so you should definitely start by finding them online!!  SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android |  Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think!Leave us a voicemail at 970-573-6148Send us feedback and/or MP3's to outsidethelongbox@gmail.comFollow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube!Support the podcast on Patreon!Credit - Doyle Daniels, Juan Muro, Gabe Llanas, Tim Huskey

We took a chance on a Netflix movie that we had never heard of, to talk about for a podcast episode, because sometimes you just have to take chances with your media! For today's episode we are talking about the 2021 Netflix film, Space Sweepers! It is directed by Jo Sung-Hee! "After snatching a crashed space shuttle in the latest debris chase, Spaceship Victory's crew members find a 7-year-old girl inside. They realise that she's the humanlike robot wanted by UTS Space Guards, and decide to demand a ransom in exchange." This movie is a pretty cool and wild ride!! It's a bunch of misfits who are on a team together, trying to stop at nothing to make money. It feels like they're wandering aimlessly down a path of getting in trouble just to make a quick buck, and aren't very good at relationships! When they come across a little girl who is being painted as a weapon of mass destruction, they have to make a decision to cast her aside, or to make her a part of their crazy family!

The DCEU has had countless opportunities to get it's act together. And for all the trying that they have done, they've got arguably, two or three films that people really enjoy. The direction of their universe has changed multiple times, and our topic today is just one more change in direction. Since the last Batman left, pretty unceremoniously, it was time for Robert Pattinson to dawn the cowl and see how far he can take The Batman!"Batman ventures into Gotham City's underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans become clear, he must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis." This story of Batman is not really an origin story, because who needs to see his parents die one more time on the screen? Nobody! BUT, it is a story that happens to take place early into Bruce Wayne's time as Batman. In this early story, we are introduced to Falcone, The Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler, and MAYBE one more baddy! Take the time to give it a watch, and let us know if you think that Pattinson did a good job carrying on the Batman legacy! Thinking Outside The Long Box

It's time to go all the way back to the year 1979!!! It's that time for a pop culture classic! We are of course talking about the film that starting a media franchise in Alien!! We spoke first about the movie Aliens, a while ago. The reason we did that is because we thought that Aliens was the stronger/better movie. BUT, we figured, at this point, it's time to talk about a movie that is still a really good movie, that started a whole line of other movies, soon to be TV series, and a successful line of comic books!  "In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma." Alien tells the story of a scavenger crew aboard a ship that has to change their route, in order to answer what they think is a distress call! Of course, upon finding the ship that the call comes from, all hell breaks loose. A creature hatches from an egg, and is let upon the ship. Nothing good comes from this, except the future of the saga of course! I'm not exactly sure where to start with today's episode!! We were thinking of sticking to an alien/extraterrestrial theme for the next few sets of episodes. The problem is, that we of course haven't seen these new movies, and were trusting google to help us with this task. In The Earth was the movie that google told me had aliens in it, and was a horror film!"As the world searches for a cure to a devastating virus, a scientist and a park scout venture deep into the woods. As night falls, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness as the forest comes to life around them."  Well suffice to say that this movie has absolutely nothing to do with aliens! It does seem to be a post apocalyptic film of some sort where this group of people are working together on a project. The project, you'll come to find out, has evolved from what it was when everyone set out on the journey! Two crew members are tasked with finding a lost scientist out in the forest, and things go sideways fast when they encounter an older gentleman in the same forest!

Our commitment to bring back comic book topics has officially begun! This podcast started with a bigger commitment to the comic book genre, and we're taking it back!! This time we're talking about an X-Men book that was recommended by Doyle. We're talking about X-Men Inferno!"THE CULMINATION OF JONATHAN HICKMAN'S X-MEN BEGINS HERE! “There will be an island—not the first, but the last…” Promises were made and broken. The rulers of Krakoa have been playing a dangerous game with a dangerous woman, and they are about to see how badly that can burn them." Doyle himself explains that this might not have been the best launching off point, only because it drops you right in the middle of a story that has already been developed a ton! But, this is the end of the Jonathan Hickman era, and so it is still a good read!

This is one of the stranger topics that we've spoken about, in recent memory! Maybe not strange because of the content that this movie is filled with, but strange because we aren't sure that this movie knows what kind of movie it is!? We're talking about the "horror" film, Immanence. "Radio astronomers discover a mysterious signal in the deep sea that could be contact with extraterrestrials. After several terrifying manifestations threaten their beliefs, the team must fight to survive the ultimate evil." At the beginning the team is detecting something from space, and they think that this might be a chance for them to find extraterrestrials. BUT, as the movie goes on and on, there are so many different genre's that are slammed together, that the movie no longer makes much sense. It turns from an alien film, to a straight sci-fi, then there are demons and the devil. As always, we recommend watching everything that we talk about, but definitely know that you might come away being a bit confused! Netflix has been paying top dollar the last few years, for some big names to come to their platform, and try and put out some good movies/TV shows!! We are of course talking about the Netflix film, Red Notice!"In the world of international crime, an Interpol agent attempts to hunt down and capture the world's most wanted art thief." Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot are both super spies who generally, while respecting each other, are not on the same side of their respective teams! The Rock's character has been framed for something that he didn't do, and has to utilize both Gadot and Reynolds in order to find something that will prove his innocence, and hopefully land both spies in jail! Our live/not live episode is time for us to get back to our roots! While this episode is always about us chatting and telling each other about our lives from the last couple of weeks, we took this time to delve into a little bit of comic books! Doyle recommended, maybe a little zealous, for us to read the X-Men comic book story, Inferno, which came out in 2021! "THE CULMINATION OF JONATHAN HICKMAN'S X-MEN BEGINS HERE! “There will be an island—not the first, but the last…” Promises were made and broken. The rulers of Krakoa have been playing a dangerous game with a dangerous woman, and they are about to see how badly that can burn them" We both read the book, but it might have been a little smarter to start with volume one, even though that volume is HUGE and we would have spent forever trying to catch up. BUT, while the comic book was a little confusing, not knowing what happened from volume one, the art is really good, and it was a fun story to read! Our change, to go back to comic books is an exciting one, and we're excited to find our next topics! "The Book of Boba Fett, a thrilling Star Wars adventure, finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the galaxy's underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate." What did end up getting was more Mandalorian than we thought we'd ever get, a small dose of Ashoka, with a major injection of Luke and Grogu!! With her last breath, she tells him how to get to the legendary Great Valley, where he will be reunited with others of his kind. There is honestly not much to say about today's topic, in the form of a plot, or some kind of story. If you've watched anything Jackass, then you know that there is no intention in any of their movies, aside from getting themselves hurt, and making the audience absolutely fall over laughing, at their paint! Today, we're talking about their latest entry in the Jackass saga, and maybe the original crew's last, Jackass Forever! "Celebrate the joy of a perfectly executed shot to the groin as Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and the rest of the gang return for another round of hilarious, wildly absurd and often dangerous displays of stunts and comedy." Like I said, you know the Jackass routine. People do crazy stuff, and get hurt doing them. There are many gratuitous penis shots, and more than anybody's fair share of shots to the cup! This movie did do something different though, as it felt more like a passing of the baton, than a normal sequel. There are many new faces for everyone to laugh at, and to hopefully care the torch moving forward. After all, it will eventually become unfunny, and more scary, to keep watching Johnny Knoxville and the original cast getting hurt into the seventies! But, this is a very good continuation in the series, and one that had me laughing throughout it's entire run time! These are projects from our youth, that we wanted to delve back into, to see if they hold up, and to see what we would rate them upon a re-watch. So, the second half of this episode delves into what pcc was our favorite, that we spoke about in 2021! It's been a long time since anybody has called the Ghostbusters! It's been five years since the last version of the Ghostbusters hit the big screen, and by most accounts was a disappointment. It's been since 1984, and 1989 since the first two were released, which is where this new sequel/reboot gets most of its backstory from. We are of course talking about Ghostbusters Afterlife! "When a single mother and her two children move to a new town, they soon discover they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind." This latest installment almost completely ignores the the previous installment completely , and relies on the rich history from the original two movies! With a new group of Ghostbusters suddenly thrust into the job of ghostbusting, we got a great new team that can grow into their Ghostbusting roles! Of course, like any other baton passing, we get a little retro ghostbusting thrown in, to pass the torch! You definitely need to go catch a show of this movie if you haven't already. Not only will you get some fun ghostbusting scenes, but it will also pull at your heart strings!

Sometimes comic con's bear out some very fruitful content for us. Denver Fan Expo 2021 was a little slower than normal because it was a "special edition" and not a full blown comic con, BUT like always, we have gotten some awesome content! That brings us to today's special interview. We've spoken about many of the projects that Michael Rooker has been involved with, and this interview was truly a privilege for us!  "Michael Rooker (born April 6, 1955) is an American actor known for his roles as Henry in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), Chick Gandil in Eight Men Out (1988), Terry Cruger in Sea of Love (1989), Rowdy Burns in Days of Thunder (1990), Bill Broussard in JFK (1991), Hal Tucker in Cliffhanger (1993), Jared Svenning in Mallrats (1995), Detective Howard Cheney in The Bone Collector (1999), Grant Grant in Slither (2006), Merle Dixon in AMC's The Walking Dead (2010–2013), Yondu Udonta in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), and the animated series What If...? (2021). He also played Savant in The Suicide Squad (2021)." We spoke to him about many of the projects that he has completed in his illustrious career, as well as some of the things that he has upcoming. For someone who has been in the entertainment industry for so long, Rooker is STILL a prolific actor, with a ton of different projects upcoming! Of course, our team would love to see him in blue paint sometime in the future. Yes, we know it'll be tough because of how his last scene went, but it's the MCU, anything can happen. It's hard to have the same magic as you remembered when you first saw our pop culture classic for today!! I mean the mystique, and the excitement for seeing dinosaurs for the first time on the screen that actually looked great! It was the first time that people thought that dinosaurs could actually be real. And we have Jurassic Park to thank for that! "In Steven Spielberg's massive blockbuster, paleontologists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park's mastermind, billionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt." Jurassic Park was a monumental achievement. Watching Grant & Sattler fighting dinosaurs through a whole park, and not be cheesy was an absolutely giant accomplishment. This film had HUGE ramifications for dinosaur movies, and has a big place in movie history. This might be one of the few movies, that most will say is better than the novel that it was created from. Rooster Teeth is responsible for productions like Red vs Blue, Camp Camp, and RWBY. For today's interview with Barbara, we of course focused mostly on the anime, RWBY, in which she is the voice for Yang Xiao Long. Almost thirty years in the making for a decent reboot to be made, but almost fifty five years in the making, for a movie that most fans of the original novel were hoping to be made! Of course, this is only the first of a two part movie, but most fans seem to be pretty excited about this newest adaptation of the Dune series!  "A mythic and emotionally charged hero's journey, "Dune" tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people." The original Dune novel hit the book shelves in 1965, written by author Frank Herbert. It's such a vast world, with a lot of depth to it, that most fans of the novel, were definitely not fans of the original movie that came out in 1984! So, you could of course expect some trepidation from fans when the 2021 film was announced! We're here to chat about that film, what we thought about it, and whether we thought it lived up to what the original should have been! Are you ready to get a little squidy? So, this type of show has been done in the past, just with a little bit of a different twist. But man, did this project take off and become something HUGE, or what! We are of course, sitting down, to speak about the new Netflix series, Squid Game. "The series revolves around a contest where 456 players in deep financial debt put their lives at risk to play a series of children's games for the chance to win a ₩45.6 billion[a] prize. The title of the series draws from a similarly named Korean children's game." The show revolves around a core set of about five different players, with a few ancillary bad guys. BUT, the main focus is on Seong Gi-hun, a divorced father, who has a gambling addiction. He, of course has a huge gambling debt, and this is why he ends up deciding to join the games, in hopes of winning the money, much like all of the other players. This is his journey of trying to unbury himself from his debt, prove that he is a better person, and try to squeak back into his daughter's life as a changed man. Of course, along the way, there is a lot of death, a lot of money, and a lot of emotion! Seong Gi-hun finds a new gganbu, and episode six is probably one of the hardest episodes to watch!

Are you afraid of ghosts? I ain't afraid of no ghosts!! It's pop culture classic time, and we're going all the way back to 1984!! It's the first of a few sequels, with another one coming out November 2021! We are of course talking about the original Ghostbusters film, starring Bill Murray Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver!!"After the members of a team of scientists (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray) lose their cushy positions at a university in New York City, they decide to become "ghostbusters" to wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, a doorway that will release evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters must now save New York from complete destruction." With such a rock star cast, how could this have been a flop? Do you remember the first time you saw this stellar cast on the big screen? Do you think that this leans a lot more towards it's comedy side, than it's more spooky side, and if you do, does that really make a difference at all? Either way, if you have not seen this movie yet, there is something going on in your life, but also, it's time for you to find that VHS, and give it a big watch! It is VERY hard to take a subject matter that would normally be outside of a specific genre, and turn it into something comedic, that is done very well! Vampires, generally, tend to be something that is stuffed into the horror genre, and doesn't normally break itself out of that genre. BUT, every once in a while, there is something that changes that! That something, for today, is the vampire series, What We Do In The Shadows! "Set in Staten Island, What We Do in the Shadows follows the lives of three traditional vampires, Nandor, Laszlo, and Nadja; Colin Robinson, an energy vampire; and Guillermo, Nandor's familiar. The series revolves around the centuries-old vampires interacting with the modern world and other supernatural beings." This series is VERY over the top! Think The Office, but with Vampires & Werewolves! There's very few actual shows that make the watchers laugh almost all the way through, and I think What We Do In The Shadows achieves that in almost every episode!! Specifically, we are speaking about season three, when Guillermo has eliminated a lot of the Vampiric Council, with Nandor and Nadja being promoted to the leadership! For over a decade now, Marvel Studios has brought to you, many different superheroes. Up until this point, for the most part, a lot of these superheroes that live in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have been pretty well known characters, being helmed by Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. With the release of Shang Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings, things are changing! Shang Chi is leading us down a more unfamiliar road, into a more "galactic" series of events! "Martial-arts master Shang-Chi confronts the past he thought he left behind when he's drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization." This movie is quite the mix of martial arts, and comedy! PLUS, as much as it really is an origin story for Shang Chi, it also does not feel like an origin story. It feels like we've known Shang Chi for so long, and now we're just jumping in the middle of one of his many adventures! If you're looking for something maybe a little different than normal, I think Shang Chi is starting down that path that you're going to enjoy very much!
