This week Jim is away and its clear without his guiding steady hand the wheels come off quite quickly... Elton recounts his joy at repairing exploded windows, Darren catches up with the 21st century watching Killing Eve and Lee goes full action mode watching Arnies new tv show FUBAR and Chris Hemsworth killing everything breathing with everything not nailed down in Extraction 2. Then after a bit of feedback for last weeks episode "In The Earth" its time to review this weeks film. A return to the "geriaction" sub genre as Bob Odenkirk goes to town on mafia thugs, thieves and crime bosses (but not the bin men) with gusto in his man at Marks & Spencers version of John Wick... Nobody... Also prepare for the complete car crash of a movie decision process at the end...

I'm not exactly sure where to start with today's episode!! We were thinking of sticking to an alien/extraterrestrial theme for the next few sets of episodes. The problem is, that we of course haven't seen these new movies, and were trusting google to help us with this task. In The Earth was the movie that google told me had aliens in it, and was a horror film!"As the world searches for a cure to a devastating virus, a scientist and a park scout venture deep into the woods. As night falls, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness as the forest comes to life around them."  Well suffice to say that this movie has absolutely nothing to do with aliens! It does seem to be a post apocalyptic film of some sort where this group of people are working together on a project. The project, you'll come to find out, has evolved from what it was when everyone set out on the journey! Two crew members are tasked with finding a lost scientist out in the forest, and things go sideways fast when they encounter an older gentleman in the same forest!  SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android |  Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think!Leave us a voicemail at 970-573-6148Send us feedback and/or MP3's to outsidethelongbox@gmail.comFollow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube!Support the podcast on Patreon!Credit - Doyle Daniels, Juan Muro, Gabe Llanas, Tim Huskey

We cut right to the chase for IN THE EARTH, a movie shot during the pandemic about a very topical - yet vague - virus that has ravaged the world. Directed by Ben Wheatley, starring Joel Fry and Ellora Torchia (among others, of course), IN THE EARTH follows Martin and Alma as they head into a dangerous forest to find a research site. There's a bit of intrigue, mystery and some quite horrific, gory special effects that finishes off in a pretty surreal climax. Nathan and Brian begin the show by giving their initial, spoiler-free impressions and recommendation on the film, then head into full spoiler territory to discuss the movie in depth. We're 5 years old this week - hurrah!!! - and to celebrate our birthday, we thought we thought we'd go back to where it all began by speaking to Ben Wheatley, who appeared in the very first episode of Soundtracking and returns (appropriately enough) for a fifth time. Ben joined us with his longtime producer Andy Starke to discuss their film In The Earth, which was made in lockdown with all the considerable difficulties that brought. Set during a deadly global pandemic, In The Earth tells the story of a scientist and a park scout who embark on a mission to find a renegade botanist, conducting research into plant life deep in the woods. Much hallucinogenic mayhem ensues, referencing everything from Hammer horror to Hansel and Gretel and Dr Who, not to mention Ben's previous work. In The Earth is scored by our old friend Clint Mansell - who even rigged up his house plants to create sounds that feature in the music. Wonderful stuff ...

Released on the 6th day of the 6th month in the year 1976, the week The Wurzels ‘Combine Harvester', became number one in the UK (coincidence?)...The Omen, which was originally considered by Warner Bros, who thought it might be ideal for Oliver Reed, is an American-British supernatural horror film directed by Richard Donner, written by David Seltzer, and eventually starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and David Warner. One of Richard Donner's first requests to screenwriter Seltzer was to remove all suggestions of the supernatural, such as cloven-hoofed demons and witches' covens. The idea was that there should be some degree of doubt over whether or not Thorn was deranged. The films follows Damien Thorn, a young child replaced at birth by an American ambassador unbeknownst to his wife, after their biological child dies shortly after birth. As a series of mysterious events and violent deaths occur around the family and Damien enters childhood, they come to learn he is in fact the prophesied Antichrist. The Omen received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $60 million at the U.S. box office and becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year. The film earned two Oscar nominations, and won for Best Original Score for Jerry Goldsmith, his only Oscar win. The film spawned a franchise, starting with Damien: Omen II, released two years later, followed by a third installment, Omen III: The Final Conflict, in 1981, and in 1991 with Omen IV: The Awakening. A remake was released in 2006.Something Horrific:Relic - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgSXwlcIvtgIn The Earth - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lqkfo7IymUL.T.C. Graham proposes that Ben Wheatley, the British director responsible for In A Field in England, High Rise and Rebecca, is way ahead of any other, as his latest film, In The Earth, opens. Amid the rise of woke revisionism, Charles suggests that we should instead appreciate the great work done in the name of British culture by the Blue Plaques Society.

Stop! Hammer Time! And that means a proper classic as the team enjoys 1958's “Dracula” (or “Horror of Dracula” in the USA). A film in which we learn that vampires cannot transform themselves into animals, especially on a tight budget; Peter Cushing doesn't fuck about when using a hammer; and if you can't say it with flowers - scream it with garlic. Because this week's episode of the Empire Podcast has more guests than Glastonbury, we've taken the rare step of dividing it into two parts. In the first part, Milla Jovovich tells Helen O'Hara all about reteaming with her Resident Evil director, and husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, on the sci-fi actioner, Monster Hunter. And then Chris Hewitt catches up with Reece Shearsmith, and they have a good old natter about working in the middle of a pandemic, Bob Monkhouse, and Reece's terrifying turn in Ben Wheatley's new movie, In The Earth. Then Chris is joined in the virtual podbooth by Helen, James Dyer, and Ben Travis for a one heck of a half-episode that takes in The Three Fact Structure (ghosts! fountains! weddings!), and this week's listener question, while the pod-team struggles heroically not to get bogged down in a discussion of the week's big talking point: Batman's prowess in a certain branch of the sexual arts. Do they succeed in that heroic struggle? What do you think? Enjoy.
