1 Peter 4-7-11 begins with the ominous warning that the end of all things is at hand. Although that statement has been attached to lunatics and religious extremists, having it come from a disciple of Jesus Christ and being recorded in Scripture should make us take it seriously. The end, as Jesus described it in Matthew 24-25 truly is nearer today than it ever has been in history. In light of that truth, Peter says that there are three things that believers should be doing as if there is no tomorrow- pray, love, and serve. The challenge is not just that we are already not doing those things as we ought, but that these are to be carried out even as persecution and trials begin to escalate in the Christian community in the end times.

Back together again after the summer, Kate and Laura are catching up on all the books they managed to get through. So listen in for their reactions to summer must-read Tomorrrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. They also covered three books from the Booker Longlist, Trust by Hernan Diaz, The Trees by Percival Everett and After Sappho by Selby Wynn Schwartz. And a couple of long reads: for Kate Lonesome Dove, Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer-winning novel about cowboys in the Old West, and a guilty pleasure fantasy read for Laura, Red Seas under Red Skies by Scott Lynch. Kate is also joined by author Colleen Hubbard to talk about her debut novel Housebreaking. An absorbing page-turner with some powerful themes, it's one we recommend for your TBR pile or book club. Plus we find out more about one of Colleen's all-time favourite reads, The Magician of Lublin. All that and some pod news: new theme music (composed specially for us), a Patreon account, and we share our projects and plans for where we want to take the show. Episode 161 features fictional mermaids, bears, and time travel adventure to stop the not so fictional nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl. We talk with Rachel Barenbaum about ATOMIC ANNA, her new novel that's a fascinating mix of historical fiction, thriller, and a family saga about multigenerational women working together to prevent both personal and community catastrophe. Shout outs: THE MERMAID OF BLACK CONCH by Monique Roffey BEAR by Marian Engle Biblioadventures we've been on include seeing Gabrielle Zevin author of TOMORRROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW at RJ Julia's and a stop at the new Brookfield Public Library. We're looking forward to events with Mark Harper at the Savoy Bookstore and Cafe, Elissa Altman & Katherine May at Barnswallow Books, and Jamie Ford at the Westerly Library! EAST OF EDEN, one of Emily's favorite novels of all time, was also a hit with Chris. There's more John Steinbeck in our future, specifically CANNERY ROW and SWEET THURSDAY.
00h 00’00” Getting to know you 00h 04’55” Presentación 00h 06’17” Cabecera 00h 07’08” THE KING & I 00h 08’05” Hello, young lovers 00h 11’28” I whistle a happy tune 00h 14’06” Shall I tell you what I think of you 00h 17’41” Shall we dance – con Yul Brynner 00h 22’00” Song of the king – con Yul Brynner 00h 23’28” BOY ON A DOLPHIN y AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER 00h 23’55” Nocturnal sea 00h 28’35” Phaedra finds the boy 00h 34’09” Continue 00h 35’43” Our love affair 00h 37’52” Return to Villafrance 00h 41’37” Tomorrrow land 00h 43’44” WEST SIDE STORY 00h 44’50” A boy like that / I have a love – con Betty Wand 00h 49’11” I feel pretty 00h 52’43” One hand, one heart – con Jimmy Bryant 00h 54’20” Quintet 00h 57’38” Somewhere – con Jimmy Bryant 00h 59’40” Tonight – con Jimmy Bryant 01h 02’59” MY FAIR LADY 01h 03’50” I could have dance tonight 01h 07’41” Just you wait 01h 10’35” Show me – con Jeremy Bretts 01h 12’43” The rain in Spain – con Rex Harrison 01h 14’52” Without you – con Rex Harrison 01h 17’32” Wouldn’t it be loverly? 01h 21’47” SOUTH PACIFIC 01h 22’34” A cockeyed optimist 01h 25’07” Bali Hai 01h 28’28” Happy talk 01h 30’59” KORNGOLD – Die tote stadt – Marietta’s lied 01h 36’24” JACK & THE BEANSTALK - One starry moment – con Gene Kelly 01h 39’09” MARY POPPINS 01h 40’00” A spoonful of sugar 01h 42’03” Feed the birds 01h 43’57” Stay awake 01h 45’49” Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – con Bill Lee 01h 47’48” MULAN – Honor to us all 01h 50’46” GEORGE GERSHWIN & JEROME KERN 01h 51’33” Someone to watch over me 01h 55’15” Summertime 01h 57’48” The man I love 02h 01’42” All the things you are 02h 05’18” Smoke get in your eyes 02h 07’58” The way you look tonight

Considering this is a show that once ended the season with a giant Beebo doll fighting a demon, we thought we were prepared for the season 5 finale of Legends of Tomorrrow. We were wrong. We weren't prepared for a cameo by Sisqo performing the Thong Song during the finale fight. Like..how could we? But before we got there, we got the absolutely hilarious "Congrats" video from the rest of the Arrowverse. This show is so fun. Things we loved: The theme of family coming together throughout the entire season The original Zari sacrificing herself to save Behrad Mick and Lita's relationship The Hall of Bad Ideas (The shakeweight was a terrible idea) The final fight taking place with the Thong Song Playing Sisqo performing the Thong Song like its 1999 John Constantine's character arc And there's so much more. Seriously, this is a masterfully written show that is ridiculous but never jumps the shark and knows just when to get serious. We can't wait for next season and what we can only assume is aliens. Bring it on. Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. If you want to send in your own questions and thoughts, email us: Mailbag@MTRNetwork.Net Like what you hear?
