With Charles out on paternity leave (congrats, Charles!), Dylan takes a crack at doing a full solo episode of Friends Talking Fantasy. Dylan provides some early thoughts on Joe Abercrombie's The Devils (spoiler: it's really good), reflects on what it's like to reread Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch, and talks to himself about how The Will of the Many helped him break out of a reading slump. Dylan also talks through some recent fantasy-world news, including the reported cancellation of The Wheel of Time and a very human but somewhat disgruntled blog post from George R.R. Martin about Winds of Winter (sort of)

Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Check out the site too! - https://bit.ly/3u8dilD The Penn State Nittany Lions football team departs on its next quest for a postseason berth this fall in a new, unexplored 12-team playoff. Many situations, players, and decisions will affect the ultimate outcome, but not all in the way. On today's BWI Live Football Show, we're discussing those things that hold an oversized place in our minds about the upcoming season. To end the show, we'll also be taking your questions in the BWI Live Mailbag. Join us at 10 a.m. on YouTube or check out the replay embedded in this article. Fitz's Recruiting Update The Big 33 All-Star game between Pennsylvania and Maryland happened last weekend, with three future Penn State football players competing. The star of the event was Nittany Lions commit Tyseer Denmark, who had three touchdowns in the standout performance. What did BWI Publisher Sean Fitz take from the game? He highlights Denmark, run-on Aaron Enterline, and defenisve back commit Kenny Woseley on today's feature. From there, we discuss the Penn State wide receiver room further and try to properly contextualize the role that Denmark or fellow freshman Peter Gonzalez can have on the 2024 season. Penn State news updates We start this week's news update by reviewing the Penn State Board of Trustees meeting from last Tuesday. The board overwhelmingly voted to fund the renovations to the stadium last week, which we previewed before the event. However, we're reviewing the arguments made during the meeting for the positive and negative votes. We also take a question from the chat about preserving the ambiance of Penn State's home field while providing a modern and luxurious experience. Next, we review the civil suit by former Penn State team doctor Scott Lynch. Dr. Lynch sued the university for what he alleged was a retaliatory firing by the program. We discuss the prosecution's claims and preview what the defense is likely to counter with. Most Overrated Storylines for the upcoming season Today's main topic surrounds the overrated ideas and narratives about the team's performance this fall. Is Abdul Carter's move to the defensive end a major negative impact on the linebackers? Will he be a game-changer as an edge rusher? We debate if those topics are overrated in the conversation about this upcoming season. Next, we discuss the third rail of the Penn State offense. We all agree that the Lion's passing attack is a key issue for the team this fall. However, we debate the idea that Drew Allar has to be an elite quarterback for the offense to function better than it did last year. Is that true? Or is it overrated? Finally, we discuss the topics you want to discuss on the BWI Mailbag to close out the show. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Most overrated Penn State storylines for 2024 Learn more about your ad choices. James Logan (also known as James Long) has worked for years in the publishing industry, currently as Senior Commissioning Editor for Orbit. But for years, he harboured a secret - he really wanted to write his own fantasy epics instead of just editing them - and he has achieved that dream with his debut novel, THE SILVERBLOOD PROMISE, which is out in April 2024, and has already received rave reviews, including from the likes of Scott Lynch. We really enjoyed chatting with James and hearing about his work on the publishing side of the fence, editing authors such as Richard Swan, as well as his desires to become an author. We hear how it too years for that writing to pay off, including what seemed like a doomed submission process with other editors only for it to be picked up just as he was considering self-publishing. Scott Lynch is the host of The Motivated Mind, a Spotify top 100 Mental Health podcast with over 3.4 million downloads. On December 27, 2015 he received a text that would change his life forever — his best friend had taken his own life. For years, Scott struggled to understand how he missed his pain, how he didn't see all that he was going through. This toxic thinking had him looking in the wrong places, blaming himself for the event, and clawing at the past, trying to pull time backwards. Three years later, it dawned on him: what he needed to do was create a platform to help those in darkness, help others shift their perspective, and to encourage others to look inward for elevation in order to see the best in themselves.
