Pete Stewart has been in games for a little over a decade, spending much of his career at Creative Assembly. After getting his start as a QA tester on Total War: Rome II, he later served as a writer on a number of strategy games, including the highly acclaimed Total War: Three Kingdoms. In late 2020, he joined Respawn Entertainment as a senior writer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Pete and Alex talk about Star Wars, finding the joy in writing for games, and how to prepare for a career in the industry. Music by Christy Carew. Art by Audrey Estok. This week's show is the alternate universe version of our 2013 episode on Total War: Rome II. It was two hours of non-stop slamming that poor game - a real massacre. But here we find ourselves in 2019 with Total War: Three Kingdoms in front of us, and things are different. It's good. It's very good. The load times are short. The AI seems competent. The vibrant Three Kingdoms setting is brought to life with both a story mode and a gloriously ahistorical mode that lets the characters shine. Rob, Fraser, T.J., Rowan, and special guest Ginny Woo explore this new entry that bridges the gap between the historical Total War games their offshoot fantasy cousin.
This week, nobody is playin shit! But we are talking about the crybabies butthurt over Total War: Rome II's female generals, and Telltale games just randomly closes up. Cj is excited about the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Tj FINALLY admits he's wrong. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/genfailcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/genfailcast/support
On this episode of Video Games 2 the MAX, Sean Garmer and Marc Morrison begin by discussing the terrible news concerning Telltale Games laying off over 275 people without severance pay or any warning. The class action lawsuit filed by an employee in its wake, the reasons behind the studio closing, and how it may be time for game development to bring unions into the mix. They also discuss the Capcom Vancouver studio closing and Total War Rome II stupid controversy in this as well. After that, they talk Microsoft announcing their fan fest in Mexico, bringing mouse and keyboard support to the Xbox family, and what they've been playing with Marc talking Marvel's Spiderman. While Sean talks about the DLC expansion to one of his favorite games from 2017 in Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna: The Golden Country. Continuing on, they talk the announcements from the Nintendo Direct. What they are most excited about, some not so favorites, and Final Fantasy coming to Switch, and if it means they are buying some of these games again on another console. Plus, what happened to Final Fantasy VIII? There's also a discussion on the newly announced Playstation Classic, Japan ending PlayStation Vita production in 2019, Project Judge coming from the Yakuza series creator, Alan Wake getting a TV show, Henry Cavill cast as Geralt, and more. As always, they talk the games coming out this week too like Valkyria Chronicles 4, Life is Strange 2, and more.

But we have a solid, meaty Idle Weekend for you, ripe with discussions of long-running franchises we have a long relationship with, our trials in not ruining games for ourselves, and the utterly bananas part time work experiences gained by working for weirdos. What are the best games of 2016 so far, and why is Pokemon Go so fun? Jay “Star War” Petrequin, Adam “Non-Star War” Foster, and Caleb “Starred Review of Star Wars” Turner hop onto the mic to talk about the best (and possibly worst) video games of 2016 thus far. We also talk a whole bunch about Pokemon Go, the new Overwatch character and buffs, and old reviews we wrote long ago. Jay confuses Genji and Hanzo. Adam has an extremely loud fan in the room. Caleb cuddles into a nice Turkey Blanket. Gotta catch all these talking points: Klaus, Popolocrois, Dark Souls 3, The Division, XCOM 2, Uncharted 4, Total War Warhammer, Total War Rome II, The Flame and the Flood, Overwatch, Severed, the sad saga of Kingdoms… Read More...
