Aston Stephens is a UK based independent record label owner. Boss Tuneage Records has been putting out music for well over 30 years. Aston and I met by chance I think through either Brock Pytel or John Kastner in the early 2000's. Aston put out the first Four Square Record titled "When Weeks Were Weekends" in the fall of 2001. I do know that Aston and I might have talked on the phone once before the deal was struck. I might of had email back then. Aston is important to the punk rock and independent scene in North America and Europe as he put allot of people together with no agenda or method only to connect people and build a network. A fun conversation with a soldier of punk rock! The Triumvirate of Tuneage returns to share their forbidden love of music genres other than neo-dissonant-cavernous-black-ultra-tech-grind-gaze. So we may be riff-raff but we're multi-dimensional trash people. And though we all listen to an unhealthy amount of metal, we are occasionally taken by music from the lesser genres. Actually when Hans and I (Eenzy) rebooted Riff-Raff we already agreed to do this episode, because we're just totally degenerate music nerds at heart who love sharing tunes. But, much like the Roman Empire, two just wasn't enough to bring this ship down—we needed our trusty nocturnal wanderer Roldy to steel this deal. So come and explore some music where vocalists don't burn out after 5 years, a keyboard doesn't mean you're listening to some basement-dwelling dungeon synth, and people have found a way to decouple angst from pure nihilism and misanthropy. And occasionally are even happy. Poseurs. New Music Features This Week IDM Block Wisp - The Shaper (Roldy) Squarepusher - Ultravisitor (Eenzy) Terminal 11 - Counter Clockwise Chant Pattern (Hans) Ed Harrison - Imbrium (Roldy) Hip Hop Block King Geedorah - Fazers (Eenzy) Food For Animals - Shhhy (Hans) Odds and Ends (where we get real weird with it) Black Moth Super Rainbow - Born on a Day the Sun Didn't Rise (Eenzy) Karma - Get It On (Hans) Steely Dan - The Caves of Altamira (Roldy... of course)
Welcome one all, to the podcast all about those killer opening salvos on those incredible lps!! This weeks guest is Cambridge gig promoting legend and the proprietor of DIY label Aaahh!! Real Records, Ian Perry. Ian like myself, is a total musical obsessive and a slave to the vinyl. His picks range from 90s indie rock royalty, through gnarly underground hip hop, a smidgen of Prog and much much more. There's some great oldskool wrestling chat, stories of supporting Dan Le Sac and a sterling argument as to why Buffalo Tom - Sleepy Eyed could well be the greatest album of all time. Here's your cute lil' Spotify playlist for you to listen to and concur that Ian has impeccable taste and style with his choices. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3bqVjpxIDA8ERbVjVhWC8A?si=-vLxrxglR1KqyXb2eUqVUQ&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1 Also, please check out Ians label via his website and get yourself some ace TUNEAGE! https://www.real-records.co.uk/ --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/trackonesideonepodcast/support
