@noizar's sound goes far beyond conventional house or techno. The Ukrainian DJ, who is now based in Amsterdam, has long since proven this with countless closing sets as resident at Kyiv's legendary Closer club. It was there where he stood out for unearthing minimal techno treasures in places no one else looks. As such, you can always be sure that wherever Noizar mixes crop up online, they will be flooded with cheeky "ID?" requests, and quite often you will find they come on his vinyl-only Wicked Bass label. For his Dekmantel Mix he offers a perfect snapshot of what he does in the booth: carefully dug out delights that don't really fit in usual categories. But they do tap into a specific deepness and groove that is rooted in Kyiv's minimal scene and the dance floor of Closer club. It results in a tight, taught hour of body music that perfectly balances function and form.

In recent years, Vilnius has become a safe haven for people from different countries fleeing war, prosecution or simply wanting to start a new life in the EU. This week at NARA podcast we are discussing what it means to be a foreigner in Vilnius today as the shadow of Russia's war in Ukraine transforms the city once again. In this episode you will hear Ira Hoisa, a Ukrainian DJ and electronic music artist who came to Vilnius as a refugee after her home city of Chernihiv was attacked by Russia's army; Pavel Kirpikau, a sound designer originally from Belarus; and Samantha Lippett, artist and curator of independent radio initiatives, originally from London. They all came to Vilnius at different times but made the city their home. The discussion is hosted by Karolis Vyšniauskas, the editor of NARA podcast. "I'm curious about everything—this is my power." The Ukrainian DJ and label boss sits down to discuss her approach to curating, self-development, parenthood and more. Nastia calls herself a "true DJ." The Ukrainian artist first laid hands on a pair of decks in 2005 after moving from her small hometown and attending the University of Donetsk. Beginning as a radio host at Kiss FM, where she curated a show called Nechto—now the name of her label—she started actively touring, pursuing a career dedicated to DJing and nothing else. Nastia is proud of having reached great heights as a DJ with no productions under her belt. In this conversation recorded live at Nuits Sonores festival in Lyon, she tells moderator Christine Kakaire about her decision to turn her attention towards the studio at the apex of her career. She also discusses her idiosyncratic style of putting a set together, using each stage appearance as an opportunity to educate the audience about music and create a narrative expressive of her internal world. "I'll never be just a drum & bass DJ, or just a techno DJ," she says. "I'm curious about everything—this is my power." Nastia  aka - Anastasia Topolskaia is a true techno outlier, the Ukrainian DJ is one of the most in-demand techno DJs travelling internationally yet keeps it real: her sets are hard, deep and come from an intrinsic sense of movement that is tied to her roots as a dancer. Today's premiere comes from Ukrainian DJ and producer Recid on Nastia's imprint, Nechto. The track ‘Green Horse' offers an intense yet melancholic trip through striking rhythms and wandering pads. The third release on Nastia's Nechto imprint embodies the artist's aim to seek new ways of approaching music production – through creating various chains of midi effects, Recid offers an auditory piece of work that consists of unimaginable and striking variations of drums, melodies, and noises. The EP is inspired by equestrianism and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, delivering at times an intense mood and narrative. The EP took a few years in the making, with some of the tracks being recorded more than two years ago in Crimea, with the rest finalized in Kyiv. Recid, whose real name is Andrey Dyachenko, has been one of the key figures in Ukraine's electronic music scene. Having played in Kyiv's most prolific underground venues and events, including Nastia's thrilling “NECHTO” showcases, Recid is now the resident of the renowned ∄ club on Kyrylivska 41 and continues to grow both as a masterly DJ and distinctive music producer. The artist is driven by music's unpredictability and how the collision of several styles can create a continuous rhythm that can excite the human mind. “These are sounds that manipulate human consciousness and that are capable of causing a real addiction, from which I will never rid myself of”, Recid says. ‘Green Horse' displays a softer but no less intense side to Recid's work. Meandering pads glide across the track as striking drums give a cathartic feel to the track. This is a go to closing track after a long night of dancing, a feverish dream through intricate melodies and rhythms. Ukrainian DJ and producer Lessovsky touches down on Highway Records with 3 cutting edge original tracks. 'Destiny' leads with an amalgamation of deep brooding bass tones, bubbling percussive hits and a string lead at its core whilst ethereal stabs and resonant leads ebb and flow within. While 'White Feathers' see's Lessovsky team up with Bakay for a journey riding out with elongated subs, sweeping atmospheric chords and soundscapes and a bell sequence, dynamically evolving and unfolding around an organic drum groove, legato induced bassline which drives the intelligent composition throughout. To complete this masterful package 'Lefter' from Lessovsky and Bakay's is a perfect storm of ethereal synth soundscapes and intricate punchy beats which create a mind-melting groove that spirals its way around an underlying deep, driven 4/4 beat. Heading to the flip side, head honcho Mike Spirit is back once again keeping up the prolific remixing strategy tracks for his label.
