This week, In the Key of Q welcomes Rita de Los Angeles, a country singer-songwriter whose journey has taken her from the streets of Los Angeles to rural Germany. With her unique blend of country, Americana, and indie folk rock, Rita has carved out a distinctive space for herself as a proudly queer artist in the international country music scene.Born to Arab immigrant parents who filled their home with country music, Rita's relationship with the genre has evolved through remarkable life experiences. At fifty-five, she's built a life in Germany with her wife of sixteen years, performs to sell-out shows, and has just released her Pride anthem, "Not Even a Little," dedicated to Dykes on Bikes. In this candid conversation, Rita shares stories of her early activism with Queer Nation and ACT UP, her forced migration due to unequal marriage laws, and how singing unexpectedly became her medicine during a period of debilitating panic attacks.Timestamps[00:00:00] - Introduction[00:02:00] - Rita's stage name and life in Los Angeles[00:04:11] - Being a native Los Angeleno and immigrant families[00:05:51] - Egyptian parents' migration to the US[00:08:24] - Discussion on attitudes toward international conflict[00:10:24] - Early activism with Queer Nation and ACT UP[00:13:10] - LGBTQ+ environment in 1980s-90s Los Angeles[00:15:29] - Shutting down anti-gay church services[00:19:02] - Who are the Dykes on Bikes?[00:20:40] - Country music influences and family connections[00:25:48] - Ageism in the gay community[00:28:12] - Creating inclusive spaces through music[00:30:48] - The transformative experience of seeing diverse couples slow dancing[00:35:04] - The story behind "Home Is Where the Heart Is"[00:40:03] - Separation from family during COVID[00:42:32] - Discovering singing as therapy for panic attacks[00:46:48] - The fifteen-year-old self segment[00:51:13] - Two minutes on living your dreams[00:54:24] - Gateway track: "Not Even a Little"Featured Songs"Slow Dancing" - A ballad inspired by seeing diverse couples slow dancing at one of Rita's performances in a rural German bar"Home Is Where the Heart Is" - A poignant reflection on being forced to leave the US due to unequal marriage laws"Not Even a Little" - Rita's Pride anthem dedicated to Dykes on Bikes, described as "country disco" with hip-hop rhythmsAbout Rita de Los AngelesRita de Los Angeles is a country singer-songwriter now based in rural Germany, just outside Cologne. Born and raised in Los Angeles to Egyptian immigrant parents, Rita spent her early adult years as an activist with Queer Nation and ACT UP before building a successful career in film and television marketing. After meeting her German wife 23 years ago, Rita was forced to leave the US due to immigration laws that didn't recognize same-sex relationships. At age 55, Rita has reinvented herself as a musician, discovering that singing helped cure her debilitating panic attacks. She now performs regularly in rural Germany, including in churches—places she once protested against. This week Mike and Bill are back at the helm. As it was said in the episode, "We still don't know what we are doing, but we sound good."Mike started off with his reading and it was all about the "we" of the program. People are there for us and we are there for them. That's how this thing works. It was a great reading and a good conversation. Then we talked talked about Mike's trip to DC, bad pizza, a fun text, how far we've come, old school AA guys (sitting down and shutting the F up), what kept us sober, favorite truck truck stops and being intellectually mature. We also came across an article with phrases that narcissists use. That was interesting.Enjoy the episode.Visit usPodcast www.sobernotmature.comStore www.sobernotmatureshop.comHobo www.themoderndayhobo.com

Here's a story someone told me this morning about what happened within the last six-or-so weeks, when a Christchurch woman took her teenage daughter to the after-hours surgery. I'm telling you this because the Government has announced that there's going to be increased funding in Thursday's budget for after-hours medical care. Which is great. I'm not going to bag the Government for that. And the fact that people in rural areas are going to get better access to urgent healthcare is great. But there's an aspect of yesterday's announcement that makes no sense to me. It's the fact that none of that extra funding is coming Christchurch's way. New Zealand's second-largest city, and there's not going to be anything extra pumped into after hours healthcare here. This is the place where, in the last year or so, we've had the 24 hour surgery unable to operate 24/7. Where we've had the emergency department turning people away. Shutting its doors because people can't get into the after hours or can't afford the after hours and the ED gets overwhelmed. And this is the city where what I'm about to tell you won't be a one-off. It won't be unusual. But it illustrates why it makes no sense whatsoever not to increase the level or capacity of after hours services available here. So this woman took her teenage daughter to the after-hours in Christchurch. I won't go into any medical details other than to say that her daughter was very unwell and, eventually, it was discovered that she was so unwell that she needed surgery. Which happened. Eventually. So her mother took her to the after-hours, where they waited six-and-a-half hours to be seen by someone. They eventually saw a doctor who told them that nothing could be done for them at the after-hours and that they needed to go to the emergency department at Christchurch Hospital. They went to the hospital and waited through the night until about 4:30 the following morning, when someone came out and told them they were too busy at the emergency department, and they were given a voucher for a free video call consultation. All up, they had waited about 12 hours to go to the after-hours, be sent to the emergency department, and be told by the emergency department that they were too busy. And then sent home with a voucher for a video consultation. So they did the video consultation and, at the end of that, they were told they needed to go back to the emergency department. They went back to the emergency department and saw a doctor, who said that the young woman needed surgery. This all happened on a Sunday into Monday. So there wasn't even the Friday and Saturday factor, when after-hours clinics and emergency departments are typically at their busiest. But, under the Government's plan, nothing's going to change here in the Christchurch area. No extra funding. And stories like that one will happen over-and-over again. So, after waiting all day and night, they had the video consultation about mid-morning and the surgery was done pretty much within 24 hours. That's how unwell she was. The Prime Minister says the Government's plan is all about restoring faith in the country's healthcare system. He says: When a child's fever spikes in the middle of the night, parents have somewhere to go without delay. When an elderly person suffers from a fall they won't be left waiting in pain.” I don't know how he can say that to us here in the Christchurch area. I don't know how he can say that to people living in Waimakariri, who are still waiting for an after-hours. There's one on the way, apparently. But it will be another 14 months or so. And, to be honest, I'll believe it when I see it because the private outfit behind it has been dragging the chain for quite a while now. But, even then, that won't solve the problem of cost. It will still be too expensive for some people to go to the after-hours and they'll still try to rely on the hospital emergency department. Which is how things are going to remain here. Which is so wrong. When it comes to after-hours healthcare, we are being shortchanged big time. And we deserve better.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Carlos Mallo Molina has been awarded the 2025 Goldman Environmental Prize for protecting the marine biodiversity of Tenerife, the most populated of the Canary Islands. On this episode of Mongabay's podcast, Molina explains what led him to quit his job as a civil engineer on a road project impacting the Teno-Rasca marine protected area (MPA) and his subsequent campaign to stop the port project it was planned to connect to, which would have impacted the biodiversity of the area. His successful campaign contributed to the decision of the Canary Islands government to abandon the port plan. Now, Molina and his nonprofit Innoceana are helping set up an environmental education center in its place. "I was going diving every weekend in my free time, and it was full of sea turtles, it was full of whales, it was full of marine life. And so, I think understanding how my impact was going to destroy [a] marine protected area … I think that was where I had my biggest click in my brain … I need to do something to change what I'm doing, in [a] way that I can protect this ocean," he says. In the latest episode of The Line Podcast, recorded on April 25, 2025, Matt and Jen take stock of the final days of the election campaign — and of Canada's increasingly bizarre political mood.Matt kicks things off by previewing his upcoming final column before election day. He spoils it a little, of course. His basic argument? The Liberal pitch to voters rests on one of two assumptions: either Mark Carney is a once-in-a-generation political superweapon, or Justin Trudeau was uniquely, almost historically bad. Matt doesn't buy the latter. And even if you accept it, he asks, what does it say about a party that enabled Trudeau for so long? The case for Carney, in the end, is also the case against Carney's party. This episode of The Line Podcast is brought to you by Unsmoke Canada. Canada can be a global leader in reducing the harm caused by smoking, but it requires actionable steps, including giving adult smokers the information they need to choose potentially less harmful alternatives. Learn more at Unsmoke.ca.Then Jen takes the mic to preview her own final column — and she isn't pulling any punches. She lays into the Conservatives for blowing what could have been an easy win, letting grievances and resentments cloud their judgment. They also debate the state of the polls, where their interpretations diverge, and dig into the deeper generational divides shaping this election. Jen uses some, uh, vivid imagery to make her point. Matt is not impressed. This episode is also brought to you by TikTok Canada. For the past five years, TikTok has been investing in Canada — hiring hundreds of employees for well-paying jobs in Toronto and Vancouver, and contributing over $1.4 billion in GDP to Canada's economy. However, TikTok has been ordered to shut down its Canadian operations. This will be a chilling precedent for global companies considering investing in Canada and will cost jobs in areas like software development and ad sales, which create opportunities for Canadians to work in global tech. It's in Canada's best interest to find a way forward that keeps local teams in place to support the success of Canadian creators, artists and small businesses on the platform. Whichever party forms government, it will have an opportunity to demonstrate that we're open for business, while addressing security concerns and fostering a thriving tech sector.Facts matter. Shutting down TikTok Canada eliminates jobs and stymies investments in Canada. Let's find a solution for TikTok that makes sense for Canadians. Finally, your hosts bat cleanup on a few lingering election issues, before zooming out to the broader picture: how American political chaos has warped our own national discourse. But there's a twist — Jen and Matt consider the possibility that American institutions might actually be starting to reassert themselves. And if so, why Canada's best protection against the worst of Trump might, weirdly, be Trump himself. This episode of The Line Podcast is also brought to you by Westinghouse. “Who's Christine?”By LiminallySpaced. Listen to the Podcast at Explicit Novels."Who's Christine?""What?" I exclaimed, turning toward Kerri abruptly. She was still covered in my semen and bare chested"Easy, easy! You just got a text from someone named Christine. Asking where you were."I took my phone back, shoving it quickly into my pants pocket. I sat down on the edge of the bed to put on my shoes."So who is she?"Once again I didn't really know how to answer that question."Just a friend," I said flatly."Um Hmm," Kerri responded, doubtfully, "is she the kind of 'friend' who's gonna be upset your balls have already been completely drained?""Don't worry about it." I was colder than I should have been. Kerri was just curious, and I was being a jerk about it. Feeling guilty for my prickly tone, I scooted myself up toward the lounging Greek goddess of lust. "Listen," I said, placing my hand on her golden calf, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a jerk, I've just got a lot of stuff going on. A lot of confusing stuff that's just been a bitch to try and process.""No, I understand," her tits jiggled delightfully as she brushed her hair out of her face, "Lot of that going around. Just that time of life for everyone, I think. You can tell me about her next time."Next time. She wanted to do this again. Hell, I did too, but the thought of adding premeditation to what we did made my stomach grow cold. There would be no defense then, no excuse of passions getting the better of us, just pure dishonesty and subterfuge."Kerri," I began, "I don't know if we should do this again. I think it might be wrong."Kerri took a moment to consider my words, then sat up straight. Pressing her big tits into my arm she leaned in close and said "This doesn't have to be complicated, Tim. It can just be fun."I tiled my head in and kissed her. Hard."Just think about it, ok?"I nodded weakly."And send me those pictures, ok?"I smiled. We kissed. I took one last feel of her stupendous breasts, and left.I checked my phone in the car. I did, in fact, have a message from Christine asking where I was. I hadn't even considered what time it was, and I had definitely more than missed church. My conflicted feelings about Kerri became compounded by the returning knot in my stomach."Hey, sorry, I overslept. Long night." I wrote back to her. Not technically a lie."No problem. You wanna meet me at The Spot at 7?"I thought about it for a long moment. Thinking of Christine made me smile. What Christine and I had was arguably the least complicated of my romantic entanglements (or at least that was what I told myself). Seeing her would surely set my chaotic mind to rest. She had that effect on me."Sure thing."I got home to an empty house, jumped in the shower, and thought about what my night had been.Kerri said it didn't have to be complicated, and I wanted to believe her, but I had a hard time believing anything about my sex life could be uncomplicated. There was nothing uncomplicated about fucking my friend's girlfriend. There was nothing uncomplicated about the hot and cold between me and Tara. There was nothing uncomplicated about the feelings I was realizing I had developed for Christine.I didn't know what those feelings were, exactly, but they were more than just lust. We had been friends for so long that despite my best intentions it was proving to be impossible to separate the time I spent with her as a friend from the time I spent with her in bed. I knew there was no path forward for us. Like Kerri had said, nothing that happened this summer would really count once the fall came, and would most likely vanish to time as life moved on, but that didn't make it any easier to compartmentalize. It didn't make me want her any less.My car pulled into The Spot, and Christine was already waiting, leaning her lithe body against the hood of her car.The last lights of a golden sunset cast her in an amber glow. Her long, smooth legs had a shine to them, ascending up into short shorts that hugged her slight curves. As always, bare legs meant a more conservative top, but the wide, ragged mouth of her sweatshirt hung off her shoulder in a delicious way. I saw no bra strap. As soon as she saw my car, her eyes lit up and a smile blossomed on her face.I had barely put my car into park when all at once she had hopped into the passenger seat.We looked at each other in silence, an unspoken tension building."Hi," she said."Hi," I answered.Slowly she closed the distance between us on the big bench seat, licking her lips as she sidled up next to me.Her eyes twinkled in the fading light. Her hair cascaded down one side of her perfect face. She leaned in, and my lips touched hers in a long, slow kiss. This wasn't a hook up kiss, this was a real kiss. My hand reached up and cupped her head through her brunette locks. I felt her sigh. Then suddenly she pulled away from me with a start. There was a different look in her eye now, something I couldn't quite place. It wasn't lust, it was something more unsure. Then, as if trying to shake herself out of the feeling, her hands darted down to my pants, making quick work of the button and zipper. The cool air touched the skin of my cock only briefly, as it was quickly engulfed by the sweet, wet warmth of Christine's mouth.I had cum very hard three times in the recent past, so the sudden sensation of her sucking mouth on my tender flesh elicited a sharp "oh!" from me.Christine's lips and mouth worked at a feverish pace. This wasn't anything like the kiss we just shared, this was determined. She sucked and slobbered on my cock in a way that normally would have brought me to full mast almost immediately, but the combination of her uncharacteristic over eagerness, the sensitivity of my swollen skin, and my sexual exhaustion from the activities of the previous night and morning, got me only half hard at best."I want you to get hard for me, Tim," She said, switching over to a tight handjob while she spoke, "I want you to get so hard so you can cum on my face. Don't you want to cum on my face?"It's true Christine had become a lot more comfortable with dirty talk, and usually hearing all sorts of words and expressions I never would have expected for a pastor's daughter would have gotten me harder than Tetris, but this was too over the top. She was trying too hard. Something was off. For both of us.She dipped her head down and went back to work sucking hard, this time rolling my balls in her hand. My mind jumped back to the first time we experienced each other, right there in that same car. Her mouth had gone at my cock with a similar fervor, but there was a passion there, then. There was a need. That first time my cock went in her mouth I felt the whole energy of her body in every lick of her tongue.Last time she wanted my cock. She wanted my cum. This time, I couldn't help but feel like what she wanted was a distraction. It felt good, there was no denying it, but it didn't feel RIGHT. Not this time."Christine, Christine, stop, stop." I pleaded, and gently guided her head out of my lap. She sat back up, hair tousled over one eye, and wiped her wet mouth with the back of her hand. It was so delightfully lewd that even in my current state my cock couldn't help but surge at the sight."You wanna watch me touch myself?" She said with a lusty grin, working her hand into the front of her tight shorts."No, no, I mean yes, but no," I said, confused about what I wanted."What's wrong?" she said, furrowing her brow with the legitimate concern of a real friend.I looked at her for a moment. There was definitely something wrong here. I knew it immediately on my end, and that look on her face after that kiss; her sudden change in demeanor after; I knew she was feeling the same thing."Christine, I have to tell you something. When I got here tonight I wasn't sure if I was going to, but now I think I should.""Ok,” she said, her concern turning to confusion."The reason I wasn't at church, ""You overslept.""It's true, I did, but I have to tell you why." Christine was very still as she waited for my next words. "I spent the night with someone."I watched her face as the words landed. She was trying to remain calm, but I could see something else behind her eyes."So what, why are you telling me this?" She said with a nervous chuckle, "it's not like we're dating or anything.""I told you because I needed to. For the same reason I think you needed to hear it.""I don't think I need to hear you can't get it up because some other girl fucked your brains out, Tim." She said in a tone that was uncharacteristically nasty."That's not what I mean, and you know it.""Tim, I don't know what you mean," she said, turning away and nervously gathering her things, "but I do know that maybe this was a mistake tonight. I'm not exactly in the mood anymore.""Christine,” I sighed as she made her way out of the car."Why don't you go home and get some rest. You clearly need it."And with that she was gone. I sat alone in my car for a few moments, replaying the situation in my head. I needed to get my mind off of it, so I took out my phone and drafted an email to Just 4 the Watcher X O X O."Here you go" it read, "just might be the best painting I've ever seen. Can't wait till the next one ;)"I took a moment to look back on the slutty pictures Kerri had let me take, pictures of her gorgeous face and body splattered in my semen, attached them to the email, and hit send.Almost instantly, as though she had been waiting, I got an email back."Thanks so much for a lovely time. You're a great artist." I smiled at how the dumb joke Tara started seemed to continue to be useful. "Here's a tip for all your hard work ;)"There was an attachment.I clicked the file, and waited patiently as it loaded. It was probably only a couple seconds, but it felt like forever. Then, finally, the screen of my phone was taken up by a close up of Kerri's face. I recognized it right away as the full version of the photo she had used to entice me into her voyeuristic plan.Kerri looked up at me with the familiar sight of a bright, white slash of semen reaching up from the bridge of her nose into her dark curly hair; it was a sight I would never forget; but the whole picture was so much more erotic: her mouth was open slightly, a lustful smile on her face. Her lips and chin were splattered in gooey white, Mike's purple, spent cock inches from her covered skin.My cock surged back to life. I knew exactly why she was smiling. Mike may have been the one cumming on her face, but it was clear that she was taking this photo just for me.I reached down to my hardening cock and began to stroke frantically. It wasn't long before the image of Kerri's cummy face worked one more load out of me for the day.I arrived back home, dazed and spent, my cock and balls sore from the whirlwind of the last 24 hours. My step mom Kelly was there to greet me, a certain glow about her that could only mean one thing. I thought about the lusty alter-ego I had created for her in my mind, Kel, to separate the woman who helped raise me from the sexual creature who no doubt had spent the night with Brian last night. As Kelly talked I half listened, my mind wandering. I thought about my argument with Tara, and whether I was being unfair to her. I thought about how tomorrow was Monday, which meant I'd have to go back to work, have to interact with Letty for the first time since her domination of me Friday night. I thought about Kerri, about the feel of her body, the satisfied look on her face after I shot my cum on her; I thought about how wrong it felt, but also how good it felt. And finally I thought about Christine; what had we both discovered that we were too afraid to admit? I thought I knew, but I didn't know when the next time I'd see her would be. Not after tonight. At least until Kelly's words suddenly pierced through my daze and sent a cold lump into my stomach."Don't forget, sweetie, you've got the church youth camping trip next weekend!", oh, fuck.Chapter 26: Tim's boss teaches him a lessonThe church youth group camping trip was in four days, which meant that I had four days to think, and more specifically Over think, about what was going with Christine and I; where we stood, what we wanted, where we could possibly go from here, and what it all meant. If you had asked me just a few days ago if I was looking forward to it, I would have ecstatically said yes, and then probably zoned out, daydreaming about sneaking off from the group to get frisky in the woods. I'd picture myself leaning against a large rock, the only audible sounds the chirping of the birds in the trees and the moans vibrating around my hard cock as Christine worked it with her sweet, wet mouth. As I got close I'd suggest finishing in her mouth to avoid suspicion from the rest of our fellow campers, but then she'd pull off me with a hot gasp and demand I finish on her face. Hands stroking, my tip bobbing just above her lips I'd oblige, and with a stifled grunt and a hard deep breath I'd douse her in erratic white ropes.Fully spent, I'd look down at the pastor's daughter, a smile on her cum-covered face, and be struck by how beautiful she looked covered in my seed. And how nicely the colors of nature complimented her smoldering eyes.Or maybe she'd lay herself down among a bed of flowers, legs spread, her own petals on display and touch herself while I pleasured myself nearby. The bright colors would wrap her body in an erotic rainbow as she shook and shuddered beneath her fingers, her head turning to desperately suckle on the flared

In the latest episode of The Line Podcast, recorded on April 18, 2025, Matt and Jen unpack the weirdest Canadian federal election in recent memory. The race feels like it's tightening, there are reports of massive early turnout in the advance polls, and nobody knows what it means — which, as Matt points out, usually means something is breaking, but no one can say for sure what or in whose favour. Carney remains the presumed frontrunner, despite the fact that no one is particularly blown away by him. But given that the alternatives haven't really landed a punch ... That didn't stop social media from swallowing the whole thing in real-time hot takes and reaction clips. Blanchet probably shouldn't have been there. Carney did fine. Singh was present, but seemed to waste his ammo on Poilievre. Speaking of the CPC leader, he won on points. But the bigger question is whether any of it moved a single vote. In the final segment, your hosts reflect on the tension just off the debate stage — including a shouting match between various factions of the media that were present. The debate commission clearly wasn't ready for something that was honestly quite foreseeable. The legacy media is still clinging to its traditional role even as that role keeps shrinking. Jen and Matt consider whether the old guard is ready to share the stage with the new independents, even (or especially) badly behaved ones. Spoiler: probably not. This episode of The Line Podcast is also brought to you by Westinghouse. Canada's energy future is being shaped by the choices we make today. In the latest episode of The Line Podcast, recorded on April 11, 2025, things get unexpectedly emotional right out of the gate. Jen opens with a raw reflection on the state of public discourse in Canada — how partisanship is melting brains, how the media is under attack, and how political parties have become so addicted to campaigning that they've forgotten how to govern. Jen reminds Matt that he lives in a society, not alone on an island. He says he gets that, but he'd like to build a fortress on that island. He agrees with where Jen thinks things are going. He's just stopped feeling bad about it and has moved on to the doing-things-about-it stage. This episode of The Line Podcast is brought to you by Unsmoke Canada. They dig into the signs that the Liberal party is simply not taking concerns about Chinese influence in its GTA operations seriously — Carney may be a new leader, but they're certainly reading from the Trudeau playbook, probably because these guys stopped being able to tell the difference between a danger alarm and a "Fuck Trudeau" flag years ago. Matt also thinks the party leaders are just tired. They need a proper meal and a good night's rest. This episode is also brought to you by TikTok Canada. Canadians should aspire to be actual leaders in the field of energy exports, particularly to Asia, and what that would require in terms of building infrastructure ... and political will. It's a theme Matt picked up in his column this week. It shouldn't feel so revolutionary to hear a CEO say it, but ...This episode of The Line Podcast is also brought to you by Westinghouse. The operations of the Salmisaari coal power plant have ended as of 1 April 2025. Abolishing the use of coal is a significant milestone for Helsinki on its journey towards carbon neutrality. The closure of the power plant will reduce Helsinki's carbon dioxide emissions by 30 percent compared to the previous year, and it practically also marks the end of coal burning in Finland as a whole. Helsinki closes last coal fuel station Helsinki's climate goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, twenty years ahead of the EU's target. Abolishing fossil fuels in energy production plays a significant role in achieving this goal. The first really major step into the green transition was taken two years ago, when the municipal energy utility Helen Ltd, a subsidiary of the City of Helsinki, shut down the Hanasaari B power plant. Now, Helsinki's last remaining coal power plant, Salmisaari, is being relegated to the history books. "The closing of the coal-fired energy plants is an important and historical change for Helsinki, Finland and, ultimately, the whole planet. Cities the world over have assumed a leading role in the fight against climate change. Helsinki wants to be a bold forerunner, on both a national and global level. The fact that we have been able to resolutely move forward with our plans to shut down coal-fired power plants in our city is a strong indicator of our determinedness in this area," says Juhana Vartiainen, Mayor of Helsinki. The closing of the Salmisaari coal power plant will reduce the City of Helsinki's emissions by 30 percent. The abolishment of coal has happened quickly in Helsinki, as in 2022, coal still accounted for 64 percent of Helen's district heat production. Helsinki has now closed both the Hanasaari and Salmisaari coal power plants within two years, which will reduce the city's CO2 emissions by an impressive 43 percent. At the national level, the closing of the power plants in Helsinki will reduce the total carbon dioxide emissions of Finland by 5 percent. Heat production to be divided among several sources Energy production is no longer be based on fossil fuels in Helsinki. Helen's investments in carbon-neutral production, such as Europe's largest electric boiler plant and the world's largest heat pump, have enabled Helen to move away from coal completely. Going forward, the Finnish capital will transition into electrified energy production based on heat pumps utilising waste and environmental heat, electric boilers, energy storage and sustainably produced bioenergy. Helen produces electricity mainly from wind, nuclear, hydro and solar power. "With regard to the Helsinki's direct climate emissions, we have made particularly good progress towards our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 in terms of heating and electricity consumption. Shutting down the operations of the Salmisaari coal power plant is a really important step and a much-needed major deed. However, our determined work towards emissions reductions will not stop here, as our objective is to be net zero by 2040, and from there on we will strive towards carbon negativity," points out Deputy Mayor Anni Sinnemäki. Hydrogen offers new business opportunities As electricity production becomes more diversified, one of the most talked about clean energy solutions of the future is hydrogen. Helsinki is also investing heavily in this area. One interesting pilot project for green hydrogen production is Helen's 3H2 - Helsinki Hydrogen Hub. The goal is to start hydrogen production in a new facility in 2026. Hydrogen also offers business opportunities for international companies. Finland's key strengths in the hydrogen field are based on the clean, robust and cost competitive electricity system, a high-tech society with a predictable low-risk investment environment, an ample supply of clean water and biogenic CO2, and excellent opportunities for taking advantage of the side streams of hydrogen production. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to officially start shutting down the Department of Education. The thing is... he can't do that, at least not unilaterally. Shutting down the Education Department will require an act of Congress. But the Trump administration has already done a pretty thorough job of gutting the department from the inside, cutting the DOE's staff in half earlier this month. Arne Duncan, who served as education secretary under President Barack Obama, talks about the potential catastrophes on the horizon. And in headlines: Maryland Congressman Glenn Ivey became the first sitting Democrat to call on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to step down, a federal judge blocked the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing personal information on the Social Security Administration's data systems, and the United Kingdom and Germany issued travel warnings for the U.S.Show Notes:Check out Arne's work with gun violence –chicagocred.org/team/arne-duncan/Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8Support victims of the fire – votesaveamerica.com/reliefWhat A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

There has never been a time I have supported a "Continuing Resolution (CR)," that budget maneuver that lets Congress off the hook, until now. Yes, in today's world, it is our only option. Democrats now want to shut the government down to make Trump look bad. We can not let that happen, because President Trump is doing what Congress never could, he's cutting spending. We need to keep the government running so President Trump can keep the mass deportations going, and the DOGE team hard at work. Shutting the government down now would only endanger the America First agenda. We are in a far different position that when I advocated to shut the government down in the past, because during "Trump Time" his team is doing more good than harm. The very opposite of Joe Biden and any other President's tenure. In this Episode of Stinchfield you will hear from the strongest of conservatives, Freedom Caucus Conservatives, who also support my position. SimpleClosure has helped tech startup founders wind down over 500 startups, businesses that closed or have gone through a sale of assets. In this episode, Dori shares the key considerations for SaaS founders who have run out of VC funding or need to shut down their companies for other reasons. Quote from Dori Yona, CEO of SimpleClosure “The biggest thing for software startup founders and CEOs is to move fast. Your time is your biggest resource in life as an entrepreneur, whether you're venture-backed or bootstrapping. You're spending your time, you're spending your energy, you're spending the best years of your career. “So move fast, learn fast, test fast, iterate quickly, grow fast, fail fast. Ultimately, when you're building your own business, you're sacrificing an easy, convenient, cushy job anywhere else to take this risk. “The faster you can grow, learn, build, and fail, the better. It's ultimately to your advantage to make the most of your time. As humans, we naturally fear rejection and do everything possible to avoid it. We're social creatures at our core, and being rejected feels like we're being shunned, banished, or kicked out of the group. In fact, the two biggest human fears are rejection and death—and as strange as this may sound, in our hearts we fear rejection more than we fear death. This, by the way, is a huge problem in sales because, as a sales professional, it's your job to go out into the world, find rejection, and bring it home. And even though objections are not really rejection, it can still feel that way. It's the fear of rejection that makes selling so difficult for most people—and why most people will never do your job. Sales is such a lucrative career choice simply because it's a rejection-dense job. Companies are willing to pay big bucks to rainmakers who can control their emotions, face rejection head-on, and find a way to win. Ask and You Shall Receive The good news is that if you fear rejection and want to avoid it at all costs, the easiest way to do so is to never ask for anything. Of course, if you don't ask, you won't get. You might steer clear of the pain of rejection for a while, but sooner or later it'll catch up with you when you find yourself unable to provide for your family, missing your mortgage payment, or stuck in a dead-end job. These things, I've found, hurt far worse over the long run than rejection. There's a verse in the Christian Bible, Matthew 7:7, that goes, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Now, I recognize that Jesus isn't talking about sales in this verse, but he could be. You'll often hear it expressed as, “Ask and you shall receive.” If you think about that for a moment, you'll notice that asking comes before receiving. In other words, asking is the beginning of receiving. If you want something, you have to ask first. Ditch Your Wishbone Far too often, we become rain barrels. We sit and wait. We hesitate and hope. We wish our prospect or customer would do the job for us, but they don't—because it doesn't work that way. If you want to sell more and earn more, you need to ditch your wishbone and grow a backbone. It's up to you to ask. Asking is the beginning of receiving, so you won't get the appointment, the next step, the information, access to the decision-maker, or a buying commitment unless you ask. And the truth is, on the other side of asking, there's always the potential for objections and rejection. There's always the chance you won't get what you asked for. That's just how asking works. The Hardest Part of Asking: Learning to Shut Up This is why the hardest part of asking is learning how to shut up afterward. You need to allow space for silence to do its work and for objections or questions to be put on the table. It's hard to shut up when you've put it all out there and left yourself vulnerable to rejection. That awkward moment after you ask can feel like an eternity as you brace for a “no.” To protect yourself from hearing a rejection, you might start talking, and talking, and talking—deluding yourself into believing that as long as you keep talking, your prospect can't reject you. The problem is, in that moment of emotional weakness, you come across as insecure and untrustworthy. You introduce objections that didn't previously exist. You start blabbing on and on about features and benefits, terms and conditions, your dog, or what you had for lunch—until your stakeholder, who was ready to say yes, gets talked into saying no by you. Your insecurity in that moment of vulnerability invited rejection. Why Silence Is Your Secret Weapon Here's the most important rule of asking: After you ask, you must shut up. Despite the alarm bells going off in your adrenaline-soaked mind—despite your pounding heart, sweaty palms, and fear—you have to bite your tongue, sit on your hands, mute the phone,
