#houseofthedragon After a six-year time jump, the story starts to shift as we get closer to the Dance of the Dragons. With Lord Corlys suffering a life-threatening injury, his brother Vaemond sails for Kings Landing to challenge the succession of its seat. Princess Rhaenyra returns home to defend her son's legitimacy and status as heir to Driftmark, and finds her home completely different from when she left. The Hightowers all but rule the Seven Kingdoms as King Viserys' health has worsened. Rhaenyra pleads with her father to stand up and defend her. Viserys makes it known that he is still the King, and his word is law. The Targaryens and Hightowers make peace with each other for the King's sake, but that peace is short-lived. Queen Alicent's misinterpretation of the King's words will have dire consequences for the realm. It's the eighth episode of the season, y'all, and RoShawn and I really liked this one a lot. It had many satisfying moments, along with a few that were frustrating because of CHARACTER choices and not the writing, plus acting that was just beyond any expectation. Corlys is apparently on death's door and it's time for the question of succession to be brought up, although Viserys is politely mystified because he was pretty sure he'd made himself perfectly fucking clear. Vaemond isn't happy with the arrangement, however, and loses his head completely. heh.Thanks for listening, and we will see you in 2 weeks with a new episode!

Vaemond Velaryon petitions King's Landing to remove Lucerys as Corlys' heir, proclaiming him illegitimate. Rhaenyra and Daemon return to the capital with all their children to defend Lucerys' claim. They discover that King Viserys is now bedridden and all royal affairs are managed by Queen Alicent and Ser Otto in his stead. Alicent covers up her married son Aegon raping a handmaiden. When Vaemond arrives in the Red Keep, Rhaenyra proposes an arrangement to gain Princess Rhaenys' support. She also requests that her father defend her succession, quoting Aegon the Conqueror's dream. The next day, Otto Hightower hears Vaemond Velaryon's petition that Driftmark pass to him. As Rhaenyra begins speaking, King Viserys arrives and declares Lucerys the heir to Driftmark. Enraged, Vaemond calls Rhaenyra's children bastards and is immediately decapitated by Daemon. That night, the Targaryens, Velaryons, and Hightowers attend a feast to mend their relations, but the princes start a fight. Six years later, House Velaryon faces a succession crisis when Lord Corlys Velaryon is seriously wounded in the Stepstones. Vaemond Velaryon petitions King's Landing to remove Lucerys as Corlys' heir, proclaiming him illegitimate. Rhaenyra and Daemon return to the capital with all their children to defend Lucerys' claim. They discover that King Viserys is now bedridden and all royal affairs are managed by Queen Alicent and Ser Otto in his stead. Alicent covers up her married son Aegon raping a handmaiden. When Vaemond arrives in the Red Keep, Rhaenyra proposes an arrangement to gain Princess Rhaenys' support. She also requests that her father defend her succession, quoting Aegon the Conqueror's dream. The next day, Otto Hightower hears Vaemond Velaryon's petition, who claims that Driftmark should pass to him. As Rhaenyra begins speaking, King Viserys arrives and declares Lucerys the heir to Driftmark. Enraged, Vaemond calls Rhaenyra's children bastards and is immediately decapitated by Daemon. That night, the Targaryens, Velaryons, and Hightowers attend a feast to mend their relations, but the princes start a fight. On this episode of The Walking Dead....well not really, but after seeing Viserys, it kinda is. This episode starts us off six years after Lady Laena's funeral with the news of Corlys being severely wounded and possibly unable to return from it and once again sit at the head of House Velaryon. So the people around him do what they always do in this universe, they jostle for position to take his place. Corlys' brother Vaemond feels he has the strongest claim to the Driftmark throne and lets everyone from Rhaenys to Viserys know it. And that sharp tongue got him introduced to an even sharper blade and a trip to the Upper Room. After Viserys' surprise entry to proceedings and him solidifying Luke as king of Driftmark, Vaemond lost it and proclaimed that Rhaenyra was a whore and her kids were bastards. He was introduced very quickly to Dark Sister. We got to see what appeared to be the beginnings of peace and reconciliation between Alicent and Rhaenyra only to have it erased by the shenanigans and nonsense of their kids at dinner once Viserys is carried out the room. The biggest moment for me was the end conversation between Alicent and an out of his mind Viserys where, thinking it was Rhaenyra, he spoke to her about the prince that was promised saying she was the only one that could unite the realm. The plot thickens as the blood thins (much to Vaemond's dismay) in the latest episode of House of the Dragon. Aemond claims a dragon but still gets beat up by a bunch of babies, Alicent begins to unfurl, and Rhaenyra faces that darn dagger once again. After so much action, I feel like I need to make like a member of the royal family and "go to bed," but not before taking in the latest episode of The Mummer's Farce!

"From the sea we came. To the sea we shall return." Words as spoken by Laena's uncle Vaemond during her funeral. The entire episode took place on Driftmark and it was as wild as the previous six. This funeral/family reunion had everything that we could ask for. There was sex, murder, and mayhem happening all before the coffin was fully submerged....oh, and dragons. In between the awkwardness of the adult interactions, we saw the beefs beginning with the children and how that will set us up for the carnage that's to come. We got a more intimate peek at the relationship and dynamic between Corlys and Rhaenys. And speaking of relationships we saw the formation and consummation

On his brother Hobart's advice, Otto urges Alicent to persuade the king to name Aegon as heir, furthering the Hightowers' power and prestige. Viserys assures Rhaenyra she will always remain the heir and can choose who to marry. Also, the king relents and sends aid to the Stepstones as Daemon, Lord Corlys, his brother Vaemond, and the remaining House Velaryon soldiers fight a losing battle against Triarchy forces.
