Based on parts of Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons". House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season. Sapochnik departed as showrunner after the first season, leaving Condal to serve as the sole showrunner for the second season. The second season premiered on June 16, 2024, consisting of eight episodes. In June 2024, ahead of the second season premiere, the series was renewed for a third season. The first season received positive reviews, with praise towards its character development, visual effects, writing, score by Ramin Djawadi, and performances. However, the pacing, specifically of the time jumps, and the dark lighting of some scenes were criticized. The series premiere was watched by over 10 million viewers across the linear channels and HBO Max on the first day, the biggest in HBO's history. At the 80th Golden Globe Awards, House of the Dragon won Best Television Series – Drama and Emma D'Arcy was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. The series earned nine Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and won three British Academy Television Craft Awards. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/popcorn-junkies/message

The plot thickens as the blood thins (much to Vaemond's dismay) in the latest episode of House of the Dragon. Aemond claims a dragon but still gets beat up by a bunch of babies, Alicent begins to unfurl, and Rhaenyra faces that darn dagger once again. After so much action, I feel like I need to make like a member of the royal family and "go to bed," but not before taking in the latest episode of The Mummer's Farce!
Το εβδομαδιαίο αφιέρωμα του POP για τις Δύσκολες Ώρες στο House of the Dragon, το spin-off/prequel του Game of Thrones που εξακολουθεί να δικαιώνει το HBO αυξάνοντας βδομάδα με τη βδομάδα τα νούμερά του, συνεχίζεται.Σε αυτό το επεισόδιο σχολιάζουμε τα πάντα (τα πάντα!) για το έκτο επεισόδιο του House of the Dragon, το Driftmark. Highlights, αποτυχίες, δρακοκλοπές και χαρακωμένα μάτια.Πώς νιώθουμε για την καλλιτεχνική επιλογή του Miguel Sapochnik να μας έχει επί μισό επεισόδιο με φακό μπας και δούμε τίποτα; Γιατί πρέπει να είναι πάντα τόσο χάλια οι οικογενειακές συγκεντρώσεις, ακόμα και στο Westeros; Πότε θα αποσυντεθεί τελείως ο Viserys και γιατί αντιδρά τόσο ψύχραιμα σε όλα πλέον; Γιατί πιστεύουμε ότι το ζεύγος Daemon/Rhaenyra είναι η εξέλιξη μίας περίπτωσης grooming και τι συμβολίζει το αίμα στη γαμήλια τελετή τους;Επίσης, για πόσες κλωτσιές πετάγματος αετού είναι ο Aemond, γιατί υπέκυψε η Vhagar στις προσταγές του και πόσο δεν μας νοιάζει που έχασε το μάτι του; Ποια ήταν η καλύτερη σκηνή του επεισοδίου αν όχι του House of the Dragon ολόκληρου, και γιατί έχει σημασία το twist με το Laenor στο φινάλε; Τέλος, τι δουλειά έχουν η Άννα Βίσση, η σπουδαία Τζέσυ Παπουτσή και ο Chris Daughtry στο επεισόδιο;
The podcast is brought to you by Hennessy & pure love. We are still on the House of Dragon high and its not very potent. My expectations have gotten the best of me and its hard to quench my thirst. We are dedicated and promised to follow through with the full first season of the show but I wish I could participate in the writing room because im not getting the same energy I once had. At the end of the day a weak King creates weak television! Thank you for listening, peace and love.
We're reached it people. The point where things really started to go wrong. Dom & Pat break down the long awaited episode "The Long Night," the eponymous fight that pits all of our heroes up to this point fighting with the Night King's army of the dead at Winterfell. Directed by Miguel Sapochnik in his first episode since the season 6 finale, this episode was interestingly received when it was first released, not for any of the major story developments that it took, but mostly that people had a hard time seeing the action, which is ironically the one thing that has nothing to do with the show itself, as TV's at the time simply did not have the features at the time to display the action correctly, in its entirety. The episode is primarily one big action set piece, and the longest one the show had yet, with the episode clocking in at a whopping 82 minutes, the longest in the show's entire run. Despite all the amazing action set pieces, Dom & Pat come to the conclusion that the thing that ruined this episode was too many characters to keep track of, which really ruins the chances that they were all going to have satisfying arcs across the episode, along with the still confusing decision to resolve the threat of the Army of the Dead here rather than have them be the final boss of the show. It's all covered here in the latest episode of #talkinthrones be sure to stay tuned for the last 3 episodes leading up to the finale! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support

Fire Will Reign Emotional Fantasy Music - Ice & Fire by Solas. House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series that is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019), both based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R. R. Martin. The prequel series was created by Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO and is based on portions of Fire & Blood. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are showrunners for House of the Dragon. Set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen war of succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons". Season One, Episode One: The Heirs of the Dragon: In the last years of the reign of Jaehaerys Targaryen, the Old King, tragedies took the lives of his two eldest sons, Princes Aemon and Baelon, leaving the question of succession open. Faced with this situation, the king convened a Great Council where all the lords of Westeros would choose their future ruler. Two of Jaehaerys' grandchildren were candidates for succession, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, the richest man at the time, and Prince Viserys Targaryen, Rhaenys' younger cousin and husband of Lady Aemma Arryn. By Westerosi law, a male descendant always comes ahead of a female descendant, causing Rhaenys to lose even though she was the oldest descendant of the king. Nine years later, King Viserys I reigns under the threat of the Triarchy, an alliance made by the free cities of Essos to obtain the region of Stepstones. In addition, Viserys has to deal with his brother Daemon Targaryen's misbehavior for practicing brutality against criminals in King's Landing in command of the City Watch. Queen Aemma dies during childbirth along with her newborn son, who would be Viserys' heir. The Queen's death occurred during the tournament held for the Prince's birth, where Ser Criston Cole defeated Daemon. The Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower, suggests that Viserys name his only living child, the young princess Rhaenyra, as heir to the Iron Throne instead of Daemon. After a falling out with Daemon, Viserys officially names his daughter Rhaenyra the Princess of Dragonstone and has several lords swear allegiance to her. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
We're back to Westeros in podcast format this time with the premiere of the first Game of Thrones spinoff/prequel, "House of the Dragon." Created by Ryan Condal & Thrones alumni Miguel Sapochnik, the show takes place 172 years before the rise of Daenerys Targaryen, while House Targaryen still ruled Westeros, focusing on the reign of King Viserys Targaryen I (Paddy Considine) who faces a political struggle when his claim to the Iron Throne is challenged with the death of his wife and son, with the claim for the Throne now divided between his brother Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and his daughter Rhaenrya (Emma D'Arcy). Other figures that will play a part include Small Council members Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), the King's Hand and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) who's married to the King's cousin Rhaenys (Eve Best) previously passed over for the Throne by their grandfather despite having the better claim. Talks for a Game of Thrones spinoff had been in the air for awhile, and after the cancellation of one that was set to star Naomi Watts, news finally broke last year that HBO had elected to go with material based off George R. R. Martin's "Fire & Blood" anthology book of the history of the Targaryens, including the war of succession, aptly titled the Dance of Dragons. Dom & Pat break down the similarities and differences to Game of Thrones, the potential for the show to succeed and what it brings to the table that's different than Game of Thrones. We've made it to another gangbusters episode. Arguably one of the two biggest episodes of the entire show, not to mention that this is probably the only season of the show where the penultimate and final episodes are of equal caliber in terms of how awesome they are. "Battle of the Bastards" still remains arguably the most technically proficient episodes of the entire show, with Miguel Sapochnik & DP Fabian Wagner returning to show that their work with last season's "Hardhome" was not a fluke. The episode famously covers Jon's battle against Ramsay Bolton to reclaim Winterfell as well as Daenerys returning to Meereen and finally using the dragons to their full extent. It's an action packed episode filled with suspence and amazing payoffs, but obviously the star of the episode is the full spectacle that's on display, with Sapochnik brilliantly demonstrating the literal pressure felt by Jon as he's almost killed at least 3 different times throughout the course of the battle. It's another action packed episode of Talkin' Thrones, and we wrap up Season 6 next week! On the heels of their review of the latest Marvel feature, Eternals, boasting a crowded cast of 10 new MCU characters, Dan & Mike turn their attention to an AppleTV+ film starring Oscar winner Tom Hanks. No stranger to working with a canine co-star (Turner and Hooch), Finch features Hanks as a robotics engineer living on a post-apocalyptic earth with a robot he built to look after his canine companion Goodyear. Directed by Miguel Sapochnik, Finch also stars Caleb Landry Jones, and Seamus as Goodyear. The late W.C. Fields once said "Never work with Children or Animals." We're guessing Fields never co-hosted a podcast with a sibling. "Finch" is a post-apocalyptic science fiction film starring Tom Hanks as a dying man who builds a robot named Jeff to take care of his dog once he's gone. The robot is brought to life by Caleb Landry Jones and the visual effects team, led by Scott Stokdyk. Scott was kind enough to take some time to talk with us about what went into creating Jeff, and the other visual effects work within Miguel Sapochnik's latest film.
