In this episode, we dive into the unique intersection of everyday vocabulary and the expansive world of trail and ultrarunning. We are joined by the ever-insightful Warren Pole and the ultrarunning sage, Andy Jones-Wilkins, for a lighthearted yet profound discussion that ties the randomness of language to the trails we cherish. There are times in our running careers when the only thing we think about is running and everything we see or experience we relate to running. In that spirit, Trail Runner Nation podcast periodically produces an episode where we pick a random word out of a dictionary and relate that to trail and ultrarunning. And yes, then there is the concept of the ‘stopover ultra'. Grab a 33Fuel bar, go for your favourite run, fire up the treadmill or simply settle back to listen to these gents talk running for about an hour.
Ultra runner and co-founder of 33Fuel, Warren Pole is one of the most positive and optimistic people on the planet. So when he suggested 'embracing negativity' as a topic for our conversation today I was intrigued! Turns out that throwing yourself a private pity party and having a bit of a moan, can actually be a great way of giving you back your mojo! Although this technique comes with plenty of warnings, Warren manages to turn the subject of negativity into something incredibly positive. 33Fuel.com

In this episode of the Luke's Lowdown Podcast Luke chats with Warren Pole, co-founder of the all natural, real food sports nutrition company 33Shake. 33Shake started by Warren and his co-founders not being able to find the real food sports nutrition they wanted, so without any experience, set off to create their own company. They did not follow the traditional sports nutrition model, but instead went against the grain to create a company that serves athletes globally with great tasting, real food sports nutrition. To quote Mr. Warren Pole, "If you fall in Fall running Fell, now you have something!" Nicky Spinks is an accomplished fell runner out of northern England. Nicky and Warren Pole join The Nation to discuss what Fell running is, its origins, and where it fits with trail and ultra running. We discuss one of the famous fell run challenges, the Bob Graham Round. Named after Bob Graham, who in June 1932 broke the Lakeland Fell record by traversing 42 fells within a 24-hour period, at the age of 42. Each summer around 100 of the most highly tuned ultra-distance fell runners will attempt the 66-mile, 27,000 ft of ascent within the allotted 24 hours. Only one in three will succeed. To date approximately 2055 people have completed the single round in 24 hours. Nicky has set records on the Bob Graham Round in previous years. In 2016, on her 10th anniversary of overcoming breast cancer, the 49-year-0ld bested the record for the DOUBLE Bob Graham Round. This covers over 132 miles, 52,000' of ascent over 84 summits. We talk about "lenses" on the All Things Risk Podcast - ways of viewing the world. One of the lenses through which we can understand human potential is sport, and in particular, endurance sport. The conversation in this week's episode may, at first glance, seem like a discussion about nutrition in this domain, and in a way it is. But, it is about much more than that. Meet Erica and Warren Pole. Erica and Warren are founders of the highly innovative sports nutrition company "33 Shake" - 33shake.com. 33 Shake sells whole food plant-based sports nutrition products. Erica and Warren are endurance athletes and in the course of their training, they found it very difficult to get good, natural sports nutrition. So, they made their own based on research and experimentation. Soon however, they were sharing their creations with others and before they knew it, they had a business on their hands. Now, 33 Shake has grown very impressively. They have a presence in 25 countries but more significantly, some of the world's elite athletes are customers (like British multi-Olympic Gold medallist and Tour de France Winner Sir Bradley Wiggins and British double Gold Medallist Phil Hindes), and Chrissie Wellington, 4 time Ironman World Champion is a brand Ambassador. For a company that started out on a kitchen table, that is very impressive. But how did that happen? Listen to find out! This is a fabulous conversation that covers: Entrepreneurship and risk-taking; Nutrition and sports nutrition (particularly plant-based, vegan nutrition); Superfoods; Endurance sport as a channel to explore your limits; Working together as husband and wife Loads more! If you listen to podcasts on Ironman and endurance events you may have heard of the Ultimate Triathlon. Luke has given a lot of interviews on his journey including a terrific pair of interviews that you can find at www.zentriathlon.com . That being said this is the kind of story that I absolutely love because it is something that if you didn't know he'd already done it you would say that what he did was impossible. But he did it. Luke Tyburski put together the idea of the Ultimate Triathlon because he says he was "escaping from life" and wanted a "massive deep challenge" You can find full details about The Ultimate Triathlon at http://theultimatetriathlon.co/ He swam across the straight of Gibraltar, Biked through Spain to France and then ran the equivalent of 14 marathons across France to Monaco. It's crazy, right? But he did it. You have to hear it to believe it. Because Luke has given several interviews about this event I do try to stick totally to the highlights of the event. Even with that condensing a 12 day event into one interview makes for a nice long podcast. I want to give a great shout out to Warren Pole for connecting me with Luke. Luke made a documentary of his journey which has just released. I haven't seen it myself but I'm going to and Luke ends the interview with a very special offer to anybody who wants to put together a group showing of the documentary. You can find Luke on twitter @luketyburski He's also on Instagram as @luketyburski Thank you very much Luke for being on the Mile after Mile Podcast. And as always check out my adventures at www.amysaysso.com
This is the second Mile after Mile Podcast where I interview two separate folks but the first time I interview two people each about a separate event. In this podcast I interview Warren Pole about his journey to the UTMB finish line. The UTMB is an ultra trail race in Europe that is truly epic. Warren signed up for the 100 miler on a whim and it didn't go well at all. So he went back to the drawing board and tried again. It took him 2 tries and a few years to make this happen. I then interview his beautiful wife Erica about her experience at a very famous triathlon called the Alp d'Huez. After we talk about their personal experiences at those races we take a few minutes and talk about how their experiences in endurance sports led them to create a nutrition product called 33shake. We talk about a crazy event called The Ultimate Triathlon which you can hear about here on the Zen Triathlon Podcast. If you are interested in trying 33shake you can try it yourself and use the code Amy33 for a 10% discount. Thank you Warren and Erica for joining me on the Mile after Mile Podcast. And be sure to visit www.AmySaysSo.com for Amy's adventures including I've put up a review of the 33shake Chia Energy Gel so that you can see what I my personal experience with the 33Shake Chia Energy Gel.

Warren Pole got into journalism to be around his passion, motorcycle racing. It just so happened that he loved journalism. This love would bring him around the world to cover stories and take part in many adventures. He signed up for one of the worlds toughest foot races with only a 10k under his belt. This started a new passion for him, ultra endurance. This new passion led to the creation of the start up he is building for athletes around the world. An amazing story of how our passions lead to invention and the journey along the way. Enjoy this Athlete On Fire
