The EU and UK approach the December 31 deadline for a post-Brexit trade agreement. Today, after tumultuous talks in a year with unprecedented events, the likelihood of a no-deal is low – but final issues remain open to ensure a smooth transition for businesses. One major topic is financial services and capital markets, a huge priority for the UK.UK financial services activity in the EU, and vice versa, will have to operate under a different scheme than is currently possible under EU laws. In order to continue the extensive cross border EU-UK financial services activities, many sub-sectors will need to obtain EU approval on the equivalence of its rules with EU law. This is a sensitive point that many UK firms like to see resolved more securely. As many of them already adjusted their structure to operate within the EU borders, where does it leave London?Whatever the outcome, a new equilibrium will take time. Where the UK diverges from EU regulation, new raises location choices for financial firms will appear. The City of London will want to operate within the boundaries of the EU regulation, but also promote itself as an continuously attractive hub for global finance. That presents a dilemma: have less access the EU market, or submit to the regulatory principles of the EU.In this interview by Isabel Verkes, Georges Ugeux gives his views on what to expect from the financial sector post-Brexit. Post By: Adam Turteltaub Remember Brexit? It dominated the news before the pandemic. And while it may not be on the front page any longer, the clock is still ticking down to the end of the transition period on December 31, 2020. As Andre Bywater of Cordery Compliance explains in this podcast, businesses need to be aware of the deadline, particularly when it comes to understanding how it may affect their privacy compliance programs. Although the UK is likely to develop privacy laws similar to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) they are not yet on the books. That could have implications for processing data. In addition there will need to be an Adequacy decision and privacy shields in place between the UK and Europe as well as the US. Data processors will also need to ensure that they understand what can and can’t be done with legacy data. Listen in to learn more as the days count down to Brexit and what you need to do to make sure your data privacy efforts pass muster.

James Routledge and George Bettany, founders of the mental health startup Sanctus, have been on a mission for the last two years to try and change the perceptions of mental health - with the intention of one day putting the first mental health gym on the high street.Their experiences with mental health from before Sanctus and through their work with businesses around the UK to create impartial, safe spaces for employees to work on their mental health have made them realise just how much the perceptions need to change and how we need to get people talking about their mental health in day to day conversation. Brexit is undeniably one of the most talked about and avoided topics in the country (and even the world). It's caused immense divisions, mass uncertainty and so we thought it was about time we explore the impact it's having on the nations mental health.George hosts this week as he welcomes back on Ben Graham (Sanctus Head Coach) and Scott Piggott (The Podcast Producer) for the first time as he shares his personal experience with how Brexit has impacted his family dynamic and his mental health. The three chat the direct effects Brexit is going to cause to certain people's mental health (6:52), the cause of division and the change in family dynamics through Scott's story (9:45), Brexit as a break-up (17:26), having a conversation with people who hold different views (28:51) and much more.Music Credits:"Loopster, Jarvic 8, Light Thought Var 2, Perspectives" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
