Why does responsibility matter? Why should there be balance? Why is all of this even important? Today's guest has some answers and suggestions on how you can become a more responsible business. Carol Sanford is an award-winning Business Educator, Summit Producer, Podcaster, and Author. She is a regularly recognized thought leader and has worked alongside Fortune 500 companies like Google, DuPont, Intel, P&G, and more over the last four decades. When Carol went to Berkeley, a man named Thomas Kuhn opened her up to a whole new world of different perspectives. Combining this with the memorable moments Carol spent with her grandparents, who were half Mohawk and lived off the land, Carol saw how one tiny change could create drastic impacts. Carol decided to take what she learned from Thomas and create a framework that would help you see what kind of paradigm you were living under, understand the impacts of that paradigm, and work on ways you can change it for the better. Although Carol wrote her book, The Responsible Business, nearly 15 years ago, the book is going through a re-release right now, the core of that book dives into helping corporations (and nonprofits) understand that the way they run the business is changing and affecting the lives of everyone who buys and interacts with them. It's not just about profit or growth or teams, it's so much more than that. When a man known as “Papa John” learned he had terminal cancer, he and his wife, Carol, sensed God calling them to share their illness journey online. Believing that God would minister through their vulnerability, they posted their moments of joy and their sorrow and pain for two years. When Carol wrote that her husband “went into the outstretched arms of Jesus,” hundreds of people responded, with many thanking Carol for their openness. One person remarked that hearing about dying from a Christian point of view was healthy, for “we all have to die” someday. Another said that although she’d never met the couple personally, she couldn’t express how much encouragement she’d received through their witness of trusting God. Although Papa John sometimes felt excruciating pain, he and Carol shared their story so they could demonstrate how God had upheld them. They knew their testimony would bear fruit for God, echoing what Paul wrote to Timothy when he suffered: “I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day” (2 Timothy 1:12). God can use even the death of a loved one to strengthen our faith in Him (and the faith of others) through the grace we receive in Christ Jesus (v. 9). If you’re experiencing anguish and difficulty, know that He can bring comfort and peace.

Tread Perilously rounds out TGIF month with a look at the sitcom Step by Step, its pilot, and the second season episode "Double Date." When Carol volunteers Karen for a date with a new kid in town, Karen freaks out as it will upset her score in the Most Perfect Couple contest. The new kid, surprisingly, does not shoot up the school when she tries to wriggle out of the date. Meanwhile, Frank and the other kids try to install an after-market security system in Cody's van. Erik declares Sasha Mitchell as the series's MVP. Justin praises Staci Keanan. The pair also declare that Step by Step is, indeed, a sitcom, but also point out the sort of plots one would expect to see from a sitcom episode called "Double Date." Erik advocates for Jurassic Park to be taught in schools. Justin highlights a nerdy character who may or may not be the high school student body president. Erik and Justin pitch an alternate sitcom called "Rivals." Patrick Duffy turns out to deliver the worst performance, Geography Corner invades the discussion thanks to Step By Step's exterior shots and Justin picks a new "Best of TGIF" series.

Carol Horton, PhD is a writer, educator and activist. She works at the intersection of mindful yoga, social science, and social justice. Carol serves as Vice President of the Yoga Service Council and was a co-founder of Chicago's Socially Engaged Yoga Network. In her desire to make yoga accessible to all she has taught yoga in underprivileged areas such as Chicago's Cook County Jail, a drop-in centre for homeless women, a residential foster care facility, and a community health centre. Shannon asked Carol Horton to be a guest on The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast after reading Carol's thoughtful blog post called Yoga: Beyond the BS. Carol discusses the negativity surrounding yoga, especially in social media. She brings up the shadow side of yoga, such as the commercialization and commodification of yoga, with the intention of being critical in a balanced fashion. It is her wish that yoga teachers employ honesty and discernment as they navigate the yoga world. From Carol's first yoga class in a church basement to her profound healing and spiritual experiences while practising, it is clear yoga has meant a lot to her. Carol doesn't believe that yoga culture needs to be taken down with critique but rather respectful discussions in conjunction with work so there is power behind the discourse. Carol believes in supporting and nurturing the good and calling out the bad so we don't lose the teachers that can make profound changes in the lives of others. 2:20 Shannon's thoughts on the negativity in the yoga world and connecting with Carol Horton's blog post Yoga: Beyond the BS 7:25 How Carol got started in yoga and how it evolved into her current work 11:55 Difficult childbirth was a profound experience in Carol's life that shifted her perspective on yoga and saw the importance of trauma-informed yoga 15:00 Lying in savasana and slipping into a “spark of consciousness” 19:30 What led Carol to write the blog post Yoga: Beyond the BS 26:10 Problematic aspects of online discussions, social media as a culturally powerful medium and online bullies 30:25 When Carol thought about walking away from yoga and why she didn't 35:00 The positive and negative response to Carol's blog post 38:50 Is there a place yoga teachers can go to for fruitful discussions? 41:30 Carol's editing work for the book: “Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System” 43:40 Carol's desire to see healthcare (including yoga) accessible to all; working with those in homeless shelters, foster homes, prisons and more to help those who've experienced trauma to heal 52:10 How to contact Carol 53:50 Shannon's final thoughts Links Carol Horton's Website Blog Post: Yoga: Beyond the BS Book: Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System Editor: Carol Horton PhD The Yoga Service Council Forrest Yoga Website Embodied Philosophy Podcast The Connected Teacher Facebook Group Follow The Connected Teacher on Youtube Book a Consultation Call with Shannon 5-Day Content Creation Challenge Define Your Yoga Niche Online Course Yoga for Pelvic Health Teacher Training Mama Nurture Teacher Training (RPYT) Gratitude to our Sponsor Schedulicity
Carol Cain is a full-time travel blogger, but lives in New York City. She travels the world solo and writes about her adventures; often times they’ve been sponsored by companies. Oh, and by the way, she also has kids and a husband. Carol is proof you can get out there and travel, by yourself, even when you have a busy family to take care of. When Carol first traveled solo, at the young age of 17, she felt empowered. Carol has a serious travel bug, and doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. Key Takeaways: *When was Carol’s very first solo journey? *Carol travelled to Italy at the age of 17, and it was very empowering to be on her own and make mistakes. *Growing up in a very strict Latino household, Carol was always afraid she wasn’t living up to the expectations of others. *Carol also had to overcome a cultural barrier. Latinas don’t typically travel solo. *Carol has a husband and kids, and still travels solo. So many times strangers were worried about who was taking care of her kids while she was in a foreign country. *What does Carol do for work? *How does someone become a travel blogger? *Does Carol travel in groups when she goes on a sponsored trip? *Carol fell in love with Ireland and Scotland, and she’s going to be bringing her family this fall to see these countries! *What tips does Carol have for those who want to become a travel blogger? *Tell the truth, always. The first episode of Radio Phonic Audio's new series Medical Drama Hospital. When Carol must choose between Dirk and Matthew, she finds advice from an unlikely source, their ex-wife.
Carol’s journey began at a very early age. She might not have realized it then, but certainly she does now. When Carol was 4 years old, she used to tell her Mom and favorite aunt, “When you die, please continue talking to me…because you can.” Carol just knew in her heart that she’d be able to communicate with them, when they passed. Today she often does talk to her favourite Aunt T.J.One night, when Carol was 5 years old, she was wakened by voices next to her bed. She knew it was not her parents and was petrified to open her eyes. All she kept hearing was, “She’s perfect for it.” The following morning she told her Mom. But her mother didn’t really know what to say other than, “It’s your imagination.” For 2 weeks after, Carol camped in her closet. She was terrified to sleep in her bed. She now realizes and knows it was Arch Angel Michael. In her twenties, Carol used to go to spiritual circles in Montreal to listen to mediums and receive messages. Carol would always know who would give her a message and when she would be picked. Time after time was she was told in messages that she was a born channeler. Carol knew then, it was true. She was also told that she should do this to help others. Carol’s fear for years was, “How do I make a living doing that?”Carol’s previous work experience includes training, teaching and management. Carol has trained thousands of people across North America in motivation skills, affirmations, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), sales, customer service, starting a small business, merchandising and telephone techniques. She has also created and customized training materials, her entire career.1angelmessenger@gmail.com
