We are so thankful to have Sidnee Peck, from Source Global, and Brian Stinson, from Peak Fleet on the podcast. We were able to go a little deeper in the conversation around values, alignment, and company culture being intentional. Sidnee talks about how their CEO and Founder, Cody Friesen, was very intentional about growing the strong company culture from day one. A company culture needs to be both organic and intentional and that is truly what he has tried to do. This intentionality starts during the hiring process with making sure that each hire truly is the best fit. Sidnee even discusses an example where there was a company hire that was brought on and shortly after it was revealed that the person was not the best fit. Sometimes it can be better to leave the seat empty instead of filling it with the wrong fit. Brian brings expertise to the table from his background and experience working with Intel, to the position he holds now as the Culture Engineer with Peak Fleet (we love that title name). He has worked with many companies, from start ups to larger organizations, to help build and develop their values which allowed for a very fluid conversation with Sidnee. There was so much to talk about and definitely not enough time- there will have to be a part two to this conversation. This episode is great for any listener and we really mean that. We talked about values, cultural alignment, misalignment, growing culture intentionally and organically, working together on a purpose and mission, having inspirational leaders at the forefront, growing a cultural legacy through storytelling and more. This conversation is for both leaders at the top and employees striving to grow to the top. At the end of the day, culture is not one size fits all. It can be difficult at times, but it is not rocket science. Thank you to our sponsor Catholic Education Arizona! For many people around the world, drinking water is a concern. For some, there is no infrastructure to provide water clean enough to drink. For others, the infrastructure isn't maintained or has purposely been let to degrade. No matter the scenario, an improved drinking source can make life better and more convenient. The most efficient way to accomplish this is by using an integrated hydro panel from Zero Mass Water. The company offers two different solutions. The consumer product is called Rexi and looks just like a standard solar panel, and are installed on top of the house. These panels use the electricity generated by the solar panel on top to produce water directly out of the air. The water is then stored and made available inside the house through its own, unique plumbing. The standard installation runs the water to a separate faucet in the kitchen in one of the accessory slots. But, producing water isn't the same as producing clean, drinkable water. Normally, drinking water has certain minerals in it, which is what gives it a taste. Admit it - you've got your favorite brand of bottled water. That's because each brand has its own mineral makeup. Rexi is no different, as the system integrates a mineral mix after the water is cleaned. It makes the water taste great, even for people who normally don't enjoy drinking water. In addition to the Rexi, Zero Mass Water also produces systems for entire communities. They call these large arrays Fields, and can be built in varying sizes. At CES, we saw a small implementation of 10 panels installed in the courtyard in front of the Central Hall and got to taste the water, as well. For more information about Zero Mass Water's hydro panels, check out the company's website.Interview by Scott Ertz of F5 Live: Refreshing Technology and Christopher Jordan of The Talking Sound.Sponsored by: Get $5 to protect your credit card information online with Privacy. Scientists from the University of California, Berkeley have developed a prototype that can produce drinkable water out of dry air. The device is enclosed in a box-like container, which contains a “metal-organic framework” (MOF) and a condenser plate. The sponge-like MOF absorbs water vapor, while the plate collects the condensed vapor. The prototype runs on solar power and operates on a night-and-day cycle. The MOF absorbs water during nighttime because low temperatures and high humidity ease the process. During daytime, the water evaporates outside the MOF and then condenses on the side of the box-like container. To test its effectiveness, the scientists placed the device in a desert in Scottsdale, Arizona, which has an intensely dry environment. The device was able to produce seven ounces of drinkable water after an entire night-and-day cycle. The scientists said that despite the low amount of water collected during the test, the prototype can be modified to improve its efficiency. Currently, the scientists are in the process of developing a cheaper and more efficient version of the MOF. They are hopeful that the future commercialization of the device will be helpful for people living in dry climates. Similarly, a start-up company called Zero Mass Water also produced a solar-powered equipment that pulls water out of air. Called Source, the device collects water vapor using an air filter. After passing through an airtight system, water vapor transforms into liquid form. The device is also capable of adding calcium and magnesium to the water. According to the company, Source can collect an average of four to 10 liters of water daily.

Fine Music Radio — So you’re in the desert, any desert, far away from infrastructure, how do you ensure a supply of drinking water? No, this is not another episode of Survivor. Well, you can be clever and engineer condensing the night-time dew off your tent, or look around for a dry river-course and dig down in hope…. good luck! OR you could have a Source hydropanel, and get quality drinking water out of air and sunshine. No connections required, no batteries. Just air and sunlight. What promises to be a game-changer in the supply of safe potable water is the hydropanel, manufactured by Zero Mass Water. Cody Friesen is the founder of Zero Mass who make the Source panels. Yhey’re based in the desert state of Arizona. Friesen is a materials scientist, entrepreneur and much more. I chatted to him at a demonstration of the Source hydropanel in Cape Town earlier this week. The principle underlying this amazing technology is hydroscopic materials and you’re probably familiar with at least a couple of them – sugar absorbs water from the air and becomes lumpy and soggy. It’s hydroscopic.
