Jo and Cathy meet with Ashar Aslam, a post-doctoral climate researcher at Leeds University who studies tropical storms. They discuss Jo and Ashar's 2025 collaboration as part of Leeds Cultural Institute's Creative Labs programme. This brought scientists and artists together to think about climate change: Jo and Ashar decided to explore what happens if you recontextualise the climate as a living entity. How do people respond to this proposition? Is it too hard to imagine, or conversely, could it be a way of engendering more care for the climate, and prompting a shift in thinking that leads to pro-environmental behaviour? We hear about Jo and Ashar's experiences of discussing this with friends and colleagues, and listen to ‘Climotherapy' – the sound art piece they made. ‘Climotherapy' documents responses collected as part of the project, and shares meteorological information on the nature of storm formation. With thanks to those we interviewed including Ronika Cunningham, Diane Greenwood, Katie Jukes, Arundhati Kalyan, Kathryn Loftus, Alison Ruck and Sam Williams.
Dave makes a dish from his past, Marco Canora's gnocchi from his days at Hearth. It's been over 20 years, but Dave can still remember the kitchen like it was yesterday. Food serves as time travel, taking him back in time as he makes this 2-ingredient dish and a beurre monté. Grateful for his time there and reminiscing on what he learned, Dave also does a lot of work with only 2 ingredients, resulting in a dish that is fluffy, pillowy, and delicious. In an industry where every brand is racing for a piece of the lifestyle pie, Brooks Running has stayed remarkably obsessed with one thing: the run. But as the running community undergoes a massive cultural shift—moving from solitary miles to a booming, community-driven movement—the brand is finding itself in a new position of influence. In this episode, Mike Peck, Vice President of Creative at Brooks Running, pulls back the curtain on Brooks' "Creative Lab," and explains why he feels he has the coolest job in the business and how his team operates like a nimble agency within a global brand. We also dive into the brand's evolution, from its "Run Happy" roots to its recent high-impact campaigns and partnerships with running communities across the globe, as well as with high-profile runners, including the "superhuman" Cynthia Erivo, ahead of the Boston and London Marathons. Peck shares how Brooks balances technical performance with cultural relevance, the importance of showing up authentically (including in the social media algorithm), and why being "worthy of being cool" is all about staying true to the community that keeps them moving. campaignlive.com Music - Take you Out by Lucid Tides, courtesy of Triple Scoop. “Worldbuilding is how humans make sense of the world. It's how we learn to play.” — Chris Eyerman Worldbuilding is how imagination permeates and becomes culture. It's the practice of creating meaning people can experience and belong to. In this episode of Object Subject Form, Simon speaks with Chris Eyerman, creative director, worldbuilder, and business architect shaping the future of storytelling through sport, media, and technology. As the founder of TRBLMKR Sports and creative lead for Luka Dončić's brand 77X, Chris is redefining what it means to build worlds around athletes, bridging creativity, commerce, and community. Before founding TRBLMKR, Chris helped pioneer transmedia storytelling alongside Ridley Scott at 3AM, turning films like Prometheus and Alien: Covenant into immersive digital experiences. He later led TikTok's Creative Lab, guiding the platform's creative direction during its rise to a billion users and changing how culture spreads online. Together, Simon and Chris explore how worldbuilding extends beyond film and gaming into fandom, brand ecosystems, and personal identity. They discuss the tension between creativity and business, the power of empathy in leadership, and why understanding both emotion and structure is essential to meaningful storytelling. The episode centers around the athlete-creator economy, the psychology of building trust and lore around people, and how new technologies, from AI to social platforms, are expanding the relationship between creators, culture, and ownership. This conversation is about designing culture, and how the worlds we build shape what people believe in, belong to, and build next. – Chris' Website: https://chriseyerman.com/ – Connect with Chris on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chriseyerman/ – Lore Drops Substack: https://loredrops.substack.com/ – TRBLMKR Sports: https://www.trblmkr.co/ – Connect with Simon: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simonclowes/ – Object Subject Form on Instagram: https://instagram.com/objectsubjectform

With climate change causing unprecedented extreme weather, fluctuating temperatures, and rising sea levels, only one thing is certain: the future isn't going to look like the past. And yet, all of our risk analysis models are based on past data from historical patterns that no longer hold true. How can businesses make intelligent decisions on building for that future while protecting themselves from tomorrow's risks? That's the question that motivated Rich Sorkin to found Jupiter Intelligence, a climate risk analytics firm with a mission to help organizations build resilience and mitigate the effects of the changing climate. As co-founder, CEO, and chairman of Jupiter, Rich has combined his wealth of entrepreneurial experience and expertise in emerging technology to successfully scale the company since its launch in 2018, leveraging cutting-edge science, real-time data, and advanced modeling to achieve next-level climate risk insights and analytics. Rich earned an economics degree from Yale before attending Stanford's Graduate Business School in 1986. Whether researching under a Nobel Laureate, cutting his teeth at Apple, or leading game-changing technology to market at firms like Creative Labs, Zip2, and Kaggle, Rich is ever at the forefront of innovation and entrepreneurship.Hear Rich share why a change in perspective led him to launch Jupiter Intelligence, what the current assumptions about climate risk are missing, and how the startup is leveraging generative AI and real science to enhance risk analysis for the future.Episode Highlights00:00 Rich Sorkin on the impact of climate change 00:49 Conor Gaughan introduces Rich and Jupiter Intelligence06:30 Early interests and work for a future Nobel Prize winner at Yale10:55 Emerging tech, mapping trends, and career in Silicon Valley 17:41 Entrepreneurial lessons, Zeus, and the origin of Jupiter Intel22:50 What Jupiter solves, climate infrastructure, and risk management31:08 Misconceptions, driving change with data, and generative AI40:46 Aligning profit with purpose, innovations to watch, and leaving a legacy49:24 Where to learn more and conclusion50:06 End credits If you liked this episode, listen next to Max Evans of ClimateAi on Dorm Room Entrepreneurship and AI-Based Climate SolutionsMore on Jupiter and Rich Sorkin:jupiterintel.comlinkedin.com/company/jupiterintellinkedin.com/in/richsorkin Connect with Conor Gaughan on linkedin.com/in/ckgone and threads.net/@ckgoneHave questions, or a great idea for a potential guest? Episode 151: The Built Environment Futures CouncilHow can we thoughtfully integrate AI into the architecture practice and collaboratively shape a sustainable and innovative future for all?On this episode of Practice Disrupted, we explore the work of the Built Environment Futures Council (BEFC) and its mission to thoughtfully integrate artificial intelligence into architecture and infrastructure. We are joined by key members of the BEFC – co-founders Randy Deutsch and Matthew Krissel, along with committee member Amanda Nicole Bridges. Today, they discuss the power and potential of AI in architecture, its impact on industry practices, and the ethics of integrating it into the daily workflow. First, Randy and Matthew share how BEFC started and explain how their vision attracted diverse experts from various backgrounds to form a national council. Then, the panel discusses how architects can embrace AI as a tool for positive change while learning from past trends and highlights the value of diverse perspectives for the future of architecture and design. We also touch on the ever-evolving role of architects, share advice on efficiently using the extra time freed by AI, and present ways to promote collaboration across industries. If some of what architects currently do can be done through technology, I don't see that as a full job replacement. To me, it's really exciting to think about more people having access to architects. If we don't have as large of a scope of work on every project, and our role is really specifically targeted towards helping clients ask the right questions, then it actually frees us up to work with more clients. It could lower the bar of entry to something that's more affordable and readily available for more people. I don't see how that is a hindrance. I see that as a great aspect that could lead us to live in a better design world. - Amanda Nicole BridgesTo wrap up the conversation, the group shares what the future holds for BEFC, such as exploring various funding streams and unique engagement strategies. They also encourage you to get further involved with the expansion of AI in the field and explain how you could work with BEFC in the future. Tune in next week for an episode about using research to tell the story of architecture. Guests:Matthew Krissel FAIAMatthew is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and founder and director of Creative Lab 3, design-driven architecture practice working to bring exceptional design to more people and places, inspire change, and transform our collective future. Amanda Nicole Bridges, AIA, NOMA, LEED APAmanda N Bridges is a licensed architect and educator in San Francisco. She is currently a Senior Architect at Siol Studios, an integrated architecture, interiors, and landscape design practice, and an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University and the University of California Berkeley teaching architecture studio. In this episode of The Negotiation, we welcome back to the show, Charles Lavoie, VP of Marketing & Head of Creative Labs at WPIC Marketing & Technologies and longtime guest of the pod. In our conversation, we explore the transformation that China's e-commerce scene has witnessed due to the rise of Douyin, which has provided global brands with a new platform to connect with Chinese consumers We examine how Douyin fostered consumer trust by initially incentivizing local brands to lower their prices, gradually cultivating a habit of buying through the app. As trust in the platform increased, larger international brands joined the mix. Today, Douyin hosts not just discounted items, but serves as a launching pad for innovative brand initiatives and drives substantial revenue. Charles dives deep into how the brand strategy on Douyin differs from Tmall and the comparative advantages of each platform. Our discussion also touches on Little Red Book Pinduoduo, and how these platforms reshape brand strategy. Finally, Charles also explains why a comparable video-driven social commerce platform has not emerged in the West. Enjoy this insightful conversation on some of the most significant trends in China's retail marketing landscape! Topics Discussed and Key Points: ● Rise of Douyin● The difficulties of growing Douyin-like platforms in the West● Most successful product categories on Douyin● The process for brand store setup and operation on Douyin● Marketing on Tmall vs. Douyin● Livestreaming and influencer collaboration on Tmall vs Douyin● Keyword bidding and consumer intent● Attribution in closed ecosystems: Understanding consumer behaviour, tracking data importance● The rise of micro-influencers in China● The impact of Little Red Book● The culture of excessive discounting in China● Pinduoduo and brand strategy: platform potential, consumer behaviour, collaboration strategies● Impact of AI on search engines● Lesser-known platforms and trends in China

LW1359 - Cultural References So many times what makes a photograph interesting is a cultural reference that may very well be obscure to certain viewers. A terrific example is old cars in Cuba. But those old cars are a cultural reference that only makes sense if you know they are indeed old cars. If we don't know what's happening because we're not from that culture, all the references and subtle connections are easily lost. This is why it's so important for the photographer to be their own docent. You might also be interested in. . . Every Picture Is a Compromise, a series at www.brooksjensenarts.com. and... LW1357 - We Don't Know Large In the last dozen years or so, photographs have gotten much larger. This is no doubt due to the increasing size of digital printers and the pressure of marketing photographs for increasing prices. But we should be honest with ourselves about size. We photographers are wee kittens compared to the lions of the painting world. Through an invite by a mutual friend, I had the opportunity to visit the home of Anne Helms, Ansel Adams' daughter. I had a most unexpected but important revelation during that visit that has influenced my thinking about prints ever since. You might also be interested in. . . LW1356 - A Print Is Not a Screen I love prints for their tactile presence. I love that I can see them without an intervening device. But that said, my eyes delight in viewing the greater dynamic range, shadow detail, brightness, and life of a digital image on a high definition screen. I'm too old and too stubborn to let go of prints, but with each passing year I'm more convinced that the future of photography is in digital imagery. I'm a bit sad about this. LW1344 - Purpose Driven Photography Why do you do photography? Fame? Money? Technical challenge? LW1342 - One Sheet, Many Images The traditional presentation method for fine art photographs has been to mat the photograph and then frame it for the wall. That's still a great method for showcasing an image. But, what if we use today's printing technologies to create a layout of more than one image on a single sheet of paper? Why not display a "trilogy" or a "Seeing in SIXES" project printed onto a single sheet of paper, then matted and framed for the wall? LW1339 - Your Response to the World When you go out to make photographs, what are you hoping to accomplish? Is your goal to copy the world? LW1337 - Galen Rowell vs Wynn Bullock It's been my experience that most photographers eventually arrive at a fork in the road. They are presented with an aesthetic choice that makes all the difference. Do you follow the path of Galen Rowell? Or do you follow the path of Wynn Bullock? Both answers are correct, and there is only your aesthetic choice that determines which path you should follow. How much research is enough for writing copy and creating ad content? We all know that effective marketing is all about researching your customer avatar, unique product features, and why buyers buy from you. However, if you're like most marketers, you're probably not doing enough.
