Students at Person High School learn many practical skills using the Electrical Trades program. They are able to apply their learnings from other courses especially math.
One hundred twenty-six sophomores representing all Pitt County Schools attended the first Career Connections Expo on March 11th at Pitt Community College. Students were given the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities related to specific program areas of their career interests. The departments that participated in the Expo were: Architectural Technology, Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Early Childhood Education, Gaming & Design, Health Occupations, Human Services, Paralegal, and Welding.

This video focuses on the health aspect of the program that is offered to Health Sciences Academy students. These students participated in the first Health Sciences Academy Day at Wayne Community College. Thirty-three students in grades 10 & 11 participated in hands-on activities designed by Science & Biotechnology, Nursing, Dental, Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy faculty at WCC. Overviews of careers and opportunities in Allied Health fields are presented.

This video focuses on the engineering aspect of the program that are offered at Charles B. Aycock Engineering Academny. Students are engaged in projects such as Battle of the bots. Fifteen sumobot robots were built by students in the CBA engineering academy. Students came to Wayne Community College to finish construction and programming their robots with the help of second-year engineering students at the college. Sumobot competition piqued the students' curiosity in electronics.
Project E2, which began as a program solely for educators, has been enhanced to include students. Each month student/teacher teams from a given cluster from each high school visited the corresponding area at Surry Community College and a business/industry in the area. Students and teachers were able to see the educational opportunities available at SCC first-hand, as well as the employment opportunities available in the two-county area.
College Tech Prep Conferences are an excellent way to bring together career-oriented educators such as career development coordinators and school counselors in order to provide up-to-date information about College Tech Prep. This podcast steps viewers through the event components used successfully by Wake Tech Community College and the Wake County Public School System for many years. Included are examples of program content that can be replicated easily in any location.

Summer Technical Institute is a summer day camp for students who have graduated from the eighth grade and will be entering high school in the fall. The four-day institute is held on the campus of Sampson Community College. During the camp, the students experience several career tracks and develop soft skills such as leadership, team building, oral and written communication, as well as presentation skills.
A Group of Sampson County High Schools' seniors participated in the IGO-IPOD-CTP project funded by CTP. These students toured Sampson Community College, job shadowed and learned how to create their own music and podcasts with Garage Band using MacBooks.

In order to recruit into the Associate Degree Nursing program, the faculty at the community college developed a pilot program entitled: Camp S.C.R.U.B.S. (Students Can Reach Upward, Beyond the Stars) "Be a Nurse". The goal of this camp is to reach a target audience of rising juniors and seniors in high school in order to better prepare a post-high school cohort through dual enrollment. The nurse camp promotes the retention of academically prepared students who will graduate from the ADN program and pass the NCLEX to practice as registered nurses.
To better address academic attainment and skills valued by stakeholders, John A. Holmes High School has initiated a program to add value to student diplomas by offering three academic credentials: Career Readiness Certificates based on the WorkKeys assessment, College Tech Prep Readiness Certificates based on the ASSET, and College University Prep Certificates based on the SAT. Cumberland County CTP Partnership offered 5-day summer camps on the FTCC campus to help students transition from HS to comm. college and expose to career opportunities. In June 2010, rising high school seniors chose from three different camps.
With a grant from Piedmont Biofuels, Craven County Schools bought a used school bus and had a custom-built 40 gallon biodiesel processor and seed press installed on the bus. The Bio Bus will be used by students as part of the local option agricultural education course Renewable Energy and Agriculture.

The tech prep grant was used to supplement the high school academies. The students take their beginning courses at their local high school and then finish their academy at Edgecombe Community College. The students earn a certificate from Edgecombe Community College after their completion of the academy. The focus this year was on the Health Science Academy along with the Electronics Academy.
Edgecombe Community College and Edgecombe County Public Schools have a strong partnership, which has added afternoon academies for our high schools students. If a student completes the academy, then he/she is awarded a certificate from the college. In order to create a smooth transition from high school to college, these academies lead directly to a diploma or degree from the college.
The Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Center, North Carolina Northeast Partnership, Edenton-Chowan School System and College of The Albemarle sponsored the Career Futures Forum in April of this year. Students will explore the careers, skills, and trends of various career paths associated with their chosen cluster, as well as have the opportunity to network with individuals who work in some of the career pathways associated with the cluster.
