Australian songwriter Courtney Barnett joins entomologist Jessica Ware to explore the science and symbolism of the praying mantis. From ancient folklore to evolutionary behavior—including its infamous mating habits—they unpack what this strange, still creature is really doing… and why we can't stop projecting meaning onto it.

You don't rise to your goals. You fall to your systems. In this episode of Dear Young Person, we talk about habits — the invisible patterns shaping your life every single day.You are a creature of habit. You sit in the same seat. You follow the same routines. You think the same thoughts. You react the same way under pressure.Your life is not built by what you intend to do.It's built by what you repeatedly do.In this conversation, we unpack:Why resisting bad habits rarely worksWhy replacing habits is more powerful than removing themHow your environment quietly shapes your disciplineHow identity is formed through repetitionDiscipline becomes easier when you build the right system.Your habits are voting for your future. What are they voting for?#DearYoungPerson #Habits #AtomicHabits #SelfDiscipline #PersonalGrowth #FaithAndLife

Prolific, five-time James Beard Award-winning cookbook author Dorie Greenspan is the queen of sweets, and she just released her 15th cookbook, Dorie’s Anytime Cakes. Famous for her beloved World Peace Cookies and many baking books, including one she wrote with Julia Child, it's not surprising that Dorie wants to start and end her last meal with dessert. What's wrong with eating dessert first, anyway? Rachel chats with Ayurvedic counselor Jodi Boone about the life-bettering benefits of starting your meal with sweets. And when Dorie told Rachel she ate the same exact lunch every single day for years, the first person we thought of was Donald Gorske. Gorske has eaten almost nothing but McDonald's Big Macs since 1972, putting his current Big Mac count at over 35,000. Rachel called the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin native on his flip phone to learn why the man eats two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun ... Every. Milton Tyree continues his explanation of Customised Employment in this, his second presentation for the Opening Opportunities conference. This time around, Milton encourages the listener to avoid being a ‘creature of habit' by making unhelpful assumptions about people with disability and employment. He explained that creatures of habit use traditional job development methods like the old "place and pray" strategy, where job seekers are simply placed into available roles, regardless of whether they're a fit for the individual. Milton explains how the key to successful job development lies in the process of "Discovery," which involves understanding the job seeker's skills, interests, and essential working conditions. Families can then use what they learned in Discovery to develop a Customised Plan for Employment and a visual resume, which is a method of effectively communicating positive attributes to employers. This approach encourages a more personalised path to employment that benefits both job seekers and businesses. You can watch Milton's presentation on our website. The presentation transcription is also on our website. On our website, you'll also find:all the presentations from our Opening Opportunities conference in 2023many other resources about helping a person with disability find meaningful employmentevents related to employment and other topics relevant to people with disabilities seeking to enjoy a typical life. Many thanks to Osher Marks, who is the voice of this season of the Imagine More podcast.

Episode 2364 - On this Monday's show, Vinnie Tortorich and Anna Vocino chat about various topics and discuss how you can become a creature of habit and more. https://vinnietortorich.com/2023/07/creature-of-habit-episode-2364 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS You can watch this episode on Vinnie's Fitness Confidential YOUTUBE channel - A CREATURE OF HABIT Today's episode starts with a discussion of Vinnie's friend Don Coddington and a few other friends. (2:00) He shares some items from his recent camping trip. (8:00) Vinnie is now planning a trip to the Grand Canyon next year. He also emphasizes the need for caution and experience when going mountaineering. (10:15) And you will learn a bit about the term "sherpa". Anna brings up James Clear's book, "". (17:30) Speaking of habits, this segues to recipes and being a creature of habit in how we eat as well. Establishing a habit can take a range of time, from 60 days to 8 months or even forever. (30:00) Anna also mentions the book "", which breaks up the year into quarters so you can achieve new habits. (32:00) Vinnie talks about consistency. (36:45) He uses rowing as a goal; he doesn't just want to row on his Concept 2 rower, he's interested in learning from the local rowing club. It makes him wonder about people who aren't interested in learning. This leads to a discussion about people who call Vinnie and express the frustration of "it was working, now it's not." (46:00) Many times people's habits get disrupted because support at home is limited. Or people aren't fully into it like they think, or they try to "jimmy the system", which doesn't work, especially long-term. He gives WW as an example. Anna talks more about how to stay on track even if you don't have a lot of support at home. (53:00) They chat a bit about retired Navy SEAL, endurance athlete, and author David Goggins. You can find his book "" here. They chat about Anna's husband's softball league and more rowing. [the_ad id="20253"] PURCHASE BEYOND IMPOSSIBLE (2022) The documentary launched on January 11!
