After some yammering, the guys talk about new products they are about to release. Keith has an expansion pack for Action Cats! coming out for Tabletop Day, and Andy is releasing Get the MacGuffin and Anatomy Fluxx this week. Andy talks about AwesomeCon and how well the first ever Get the MacGuffin tournaments worked out. Keith has more to say about Ready Player One, having read the book again in preparation for seeing the movie, and they discuss some of the basic issues they have with the entire premise, from a world builder's perspective. Keith compares and contrasts it with a book called Anno Dracula. Then they get into answering a listener's question about how much you need to know about the history of an art form in order to become a creator, leading to discussions of how inventors build upon earlier works, issues that come up when working with someone else's intellectual property, and when you need to consult with an expert on specific subject matter. They discuss their collaboration on Cthulhu Fluxx at some length. Lastly they talk about Timeless, and the challenges of creating a compelling time travel show.

Please Subscribe to us on iTunes and Stitcher - http://hoopod.podbean.com/feed/ I thought long and hard about publishing this one. After what Tyrolin and Joey pulled...you know how long it took me to get out of there? And the mental scares I now have, you have no idea what I had to do to get home... Thankfully time moves faster there so in our world I only missed a day. The horrors I had to endure... I did meet a nice Vampire named Angel though. We were friends for a while, then he went savage...I'd rather not talk about it. Anyways these two talk about Tyrolin's delusions of grandeur, Lara Croft, Tyrolin's new book deal, Tabletop Day, Presidents, Lizard invaders and Twins. People say that I only like games that have a strong theme and stay away from Euro's. Well the first part is half right and I actually like a lot of Euro games. So on Episode 43 I'm going to give my Top Ten "Dry" Games, which is a subjective list to say the list, but essentially these are games where the theme is non-existant without being simply an abstract game. There are a lot of games with pasted on themes, but these ones have incredibly thin veils. Prior to that though there's plenty of first impressions including some new titles, Valeria and Thunderbirds as well as an older title, The Adventurers: The Temple of Chac. And the "One More Game?" segments pays homage to the recent Captain America: Civil War craze by taking a look back at Marvel Legendary - have all the expansions kept it alive and does the setup time get in the way? 00:00 - Tabletop Day & UK Games Expo 06:10 - First Impressions - Valeria: Card Kingdoms 11:36 - First Impressions - Thunderbirds 16:56 - First Impressions - The Adventurers: The Temple of Chac 21:25 - One More Game? - Marvel Legendary 30:15 - Top Ten "Dry" Games 52:37 - Conclusion

Nerd stuff with a sports twist this week with Episode 30. Fav finally gets to play a game as T-Mac takes over as gamemaker (ahem, subtle Hunger Games reference, ahem) with a Baseball and Superhero themed game. Lots of news and movie talk of course. Catch up on The Cast's TableTop Day extravaganza. It was a big day filled with LOTS of games...Dice Town, Hive, Blueprints, Dixit, Terra Mystica, Seven Wonders, Citadel, Pathfinder, Cards Against Humanity to name a few. A special episode for this session, where I talk you through my 32 hour charity gaming marathon that I undertook for Tabletop Day, though I guess that makes it Tabletop Weekend really! Apologies in advance - I forgot to implement my makeshift pop filter before recording - won't happen again on the next one! :-(

We’re back at posting new episodes every Thursday, and each episode will be about 20 - 30 minutes long. We're back from hiatus! Go us! Welcome to Season Two of Vox Republica. We've preempted our own podcast this week about Part II of gaming canon to instead share an interview we had at our TableTop Day event with Aerjen Tamminga. Aerjen is a Boston-area game designer, Director of BostonFIG, and he is currently running his first Kickstarter for the game Pleasant Dreams, which is going on right now! In this episode, we talk about his game (naturally), but also about various communities and resources that help when diving into being a first-time designer. Some of the groups mentioned are: Game Maker's Guild Meetup Game Maker's Guild Resource List Board Game Designers Forum BoardGameGeek Forums Kickstarter Best Practices Facebook Group Jamey Stegmaier's Kickstarter Lessons James Mathe's Design Notes Aerjen also recommends checking out some communities for playing and testing video games as well, because they too can foster good relationships and even teach tabletop designers a thing or two. These include: MIT Game Labs Boston Indies Boston Post Mortem OK, now we're off to PAX East! For the gaming news bulletin, check out our Weekly Roundup. We’d love to hear from you! Please leave feedback in our forums, or via email at podcast@cardboardrepublic.com. You can also reach me on Twitter or BoardGameGeek. A conversation about our experience on Tabletop Day becomes a minor discussion on the role of Tabletop in the hobby. Then, we manage to pull ourselves together long enough to review the card game, For Sale!
This week we talk about having homebrew on tap again, the importance of the Eagles and Tabletop games!
In this one we update you on the upcoming Tabletop Day fund raiser event, talk about the new games we’ve been playing (in which LUKE is the one talking about Netrunner). We also talk about the Dark Dungeons movie project … Continue reading →
In honor of Tabletop Day (which was Saturday), we invited King of the Nerds/Outbreak:Undead creator Ivan Van Norman on the show. As both a gamer and a tabletop gamer, Ivan schools us (and you) on the different types of tabletop games, what they offer that video games cannot, and what are the best way to dip your video gamer toe into the tabletop waters. Plus, we take a walk on the Burnside to give our first, spoiler-free impressions of Bioshock, play Twitter games, and more!

Another episode of the podcast in our new format of just one topic or segment per episode to make them a bit shorter. Having said that, this episode is nearly 50 minutes, but I assure you is well worth it! Tabletop Day is the latest initiative from the Geek and Sundry team, who are hell bent on making sure as many people as possible are aware and, hopefully, join the board and role playing game fan-base. Tabletop Day invites gamer to get out and play games in a public space. At your local games store, your library, a pub, in the street… Any game you like (be sensible!) and that you think people will like. Get it out there and start enjoying the crowd. To hear and learn more about it, I interviewed Boyan Radakovich, associate producer of the show Tabletop. I got to talk to him about the how and why of Tabletop Day, the genesis and the ideal future the whole production team would like to see coming true. And a couple of announcements about some very special places where some games could be played. And I kid you not when I tell you some are out of this world! For the last few minutes, we have a message from our site and I explain what to do if you’d like us to take a look at your game and review it! As always, we’re more than happy to receive your feedback and to do so you can email us on podcast@gmsmagazine.com or leave a voice message by clicking the tab to the side! Look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy the show!

Once again we put word to microphone and, with our tongue so stuck in our cheeks that we’re amazed it doesn’t pierce through our faces, we bring you another episode of the podcast with much hilarity and a very healthy dose of silliness. And a lot more, of course. We have a good discussion about Tabletopday.com and Kara gives us her opinion from the point of view of someone who works in a games shop. Just in case you don’t know, Tabletop Day is the initiative that Felicia Day, Will Wheaton and their team have come up with to encourage and incentivise people to get out there and play games in the open. A pub, a library, a restaurant… if it has a table, play a game. If it doesn’t have a table, get a deck of cards out! Me, having played Cosmic Encounters for the first time a few days ago – even though I’ve had the game for two years. Don’t ask… – and I was quite taken by the simplicity of the game and how easily it can turn anyone (and everyone!) around the table into a ruthless negotiator thirsty only for colonization. Tremendous! Dr Reddy, on the other hand, has been playing X-Wing and he’s hooked! All my fault, I have to say. I was the one who told him that the UK Championships will take place at the UK Games Expo and now he wants to win. But he plans on doing it in a different way… And talking about Star Wars, we mention the full size Millennium Falcon project, which is something I didn’ tknow about and the people behind the project deserve a huge amount of credit. It’s truly terrific! Lastly, we answer a question from one of our listeners, Joe Salinas, about the game Nuts. As always, we’re more than happy to receive your feedback and to do so you can email us on podcast@gmsmagazine.com or leave a voice message by clicking the tab to the side! Look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy the show!
Welcome back everyone to a new, shorter episode of the podcast. First of all in this episode we announce the winner of our “leave us iTunes feedback” competition. Cloudster, you’ve got yourself a prize! We also talk about Tabletop Day, the new, and rather awesome, initiative by the nice guys at Geek and Sundry, to get us gamers to go out and play somewhere else: A public space! Video below! And our topics for this episode are “How do you handle difficult situations at the table” and “how do you protect your game”?
