Sometimes all it takes is a good designer (and the right game) to take what would otherwise be a mechanic we don't like, and utilize it in a way that feels right. We take a look at some mechanics that we usually don't love, and the games that turned us around on them. Liz, Jeremy, and Jason geek out and go gaga over more delivered Kickstarter projects! Jason begin by gushing over the uberly cute Rescue Polar Bears (7:19 - is that a word? it is now!). Rescue Polar Bears is a family weight cooperative game that evokes Flash Point: Fire Rescue. In other words, right in Jason's wheelhouse! Liz then chimes in with Holding On: The Troubled Life of Billy Kerr (16:59). This cooperative game about giving palliative care to a dying man has caused quite a stir since being announced. Liz and Jeremy share some thoughts about the hype. Jason leaps back in to talk about Champions of Hara (31:53), an adventure game with hand management that evokes one of the truly great solo games of all time... well, you know. Finally, everyone jumps back in to talk about the adventure themed Euro game, Archmage (42:59). This is another beautiful (and on time!) production from Starling Games/ Game Salute.
We’re putting out all the fires this week with Flash Point: Fire Rescue! It’s a co-op, action point based game where you rescue people from a burning building while racing against the fire threatening to bring the building down on everyone’s heads! And it’s got lil’ chibi firemen minis! So cute!
Sometimes expansions help breathe new life into games, other times they make a game actually playable. Other times they just add some cool new bling to the game!
This week Peter, Mike and Partick Hillier talk about Flash Point: Fire Rescue and discuss different ways to integrate player and AI turns in CoOps. Chicken coop games! How many games could there possibly be about chicken coops? Wait, hang on, I'm getting an update here - turns out we're talking about co-op games! Cooperative games are great fun, but why are so many of them so difficult?
Weddings, holidays, the aftermath of MLGX and off to Germany for Essen Spiel 2017, with extra Bratwurst. Making progress with Destiny and wasting time with Idle Balls and Wiz Khalifa weed farm Saving lives with Flash Point: Fire Rescue
Gencon is right around the corner, so Albert and Julius are excited to talk about some of the games they are looking forward to hearing more about. Sadly, although GenCant is happening this year, GenCant SoloCon didn't get arranged for this year. Regardless, Albert and Julius take a brief run through their wishlists from Gencon releases, and talk about a few other games on Kickstarter. After the rush of con games is over, they review Raxxon, the cooperative evacuation card game from PlaidHat Games. As an aside, due to Raxxon's "interesting" distribution model, if you are looking to get your hands on a copy, check the 1 Player Guild forums for a thread with invite codes. (Also, sorry that Albert's microphone was messing up during recording. It gets better if you skip to later portions.) Show notes: News: Finished (by Friedemann Friese) (01:36) Heroes Wanted expansion (03:35) Flash Point: Fire Rescue expansion (05:33) GenCon wishlists (11:49) Raxxon review (26:32)
I am aware that St. Charles is technically a different city than St. Louis proper, but try explaining that to people that have never been anywhere near there.
Kenny and Josh are back for their fifth episode! In the Past, Present and Future the duo discuss cooperative games including: Forbidden Island, Flash Point Fire Rescue, Mansions of Madness (2nd Edition), Ghost Stories, Bomb Squad and Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: Jack the Ripper and West End Adventures. In their Sacred Cow segment, they discuss publishers they love and hate. Finally, they round out the show with a discussion about Alexander Pfister's Great Western Trail.
Sugi starts us off and talks about his Harry Potter Weekend experience. Then we discuss the Rising Sun Kickstarter launch date! Days of Wonder's Quadropolis has a new expansion that adds more tiles. Unfortunately, a brick and mortar store is closing due to the Asmodee policy and we go in length our thoughts on this. Dice Forge brings custom dice to a beautiful design. Tabletop is back with their next playthrough of Monarch. Hex is excited about seeing a run through of SUPERHOT: The Card Game from Rahdo Runs Through. Flash Point Fire Rescue is our feature game this week and we have all played it! You can comment or leave feedback on Twitter: @thirstygamers_ And as always stay thirsty for games my friends!
An introduction to who we are and what we're doing here. We talk about 10x10s, Ninja Turtles, poisoning horses, Star Trek/Gate, and mostly just blab about nonsense. But hey, Jared fights a sinus infection in this episode! Please don't sue us, Disney.
Today on the 5: Amid the flurry of board game reviews I did a while back, I forgot to review Flash Point: Fire Rescue.
It's Pax eve and Dave's joined by Dan and Ja... actually just Dan again this week for a discussion about beer, Talisman, beer, Hive, Flash Point: Fire Rescue, and beer! We have a look at Flash Point Fire Rescue this week (one of the games requested during the contest). First though we have a look at a few games we've played in the last few weeks. Railways of the World 01:40 Voyages of Marco Polo 06:24 Thurns and Taxis 13:05 Friday 20:43 We then have a look back (24:55) at a game we all really enjoyed (well, most of us anyway) - Dungeon Petz. We've all played it since right? Right? Why or why not? We then delve into Flash Point - this is an early cooperative game for the group, does it still hold up? With 2 (potential) alpha gamers in the group, how does this game handle that? What do we think about the interesting theme? What about the random fire spread and random points of interest? And we end off as usual with our final thoughts on the game.
Ambie, Cassadi, and Crystal discuss 18xx games, Seasons, and Awesome Kingdom, along with our "Accessory" of the Week - drink accessories, games that are "hot," and the origins of the word "shelfie."
Essen is just around the corner (literally, took me longer than I hoped to get this episode out!) and I'm excited to be going to it. This will be my first appearance and I've already caused my wallet harm by pre-ordering many games including some big deluxe sets. And there's plenty more to go yet! Join me in Episode 36 where I'll give my first impressions on Voyages of Marco Polo, Red Dragon Inn and Cacao, my Top 10 Games I'm Looking Forward To At Essen and kickstart a new pilot segment that I like to call "One More Game?". 10:05 - First Impressions (Voyages of Marco Polo) 13:26 - First Impressions (Red Dragon Inn) 16:16 - First Impressions (Cacao) 18:47 - One More Game? In this episode of the Start Space Podcast, we take a look at the genre of Co-op games! Doesn't everyone love working together with their buddies? Continuing our theme, we review the co-op game, Flash Point Fire Rescue!
It's over six months late, but we finally get around to wrapping up our Extra Life weekend long board gaming event that raised money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. We played twenty four hours of board games across three days and raised over two thousand dollars for charity (over $2000!). We're very proud of what we accomplished in our first year and are looking forward to more success as we continue this annual event in our community.Mostly, Jim spends this episode grasping for that word for the structured play mat that you play cards to in popular hobby games and stages an intervention for Adrienne's recent addiction.Thank you to all our Extra Life supporters. For this special Quick Look episode of The Long View, I examine the game Police Precinct including an overview and review of this new cooperative game from designer Ole Steiness from Common Man Games. Along the way, I compare and contrast this new offering with such cooperative classics as Pandemic, Shadows over Camelot, and the more recent Flash Point Fire Rescue. Finally, we get the perspective of a special guest and young gamer, Sophia, who shares her opinions about what makes this game different from others in this genre. Thanks, as always, to www.gamesurplus.com for their generous sponsorship of The Long View, and thank to YOU for listening!
In this episode, I review Flash Point: Fire Rescue, published by Indie Board & Cards. I've really enjoyed playing this game. I also do an unboxing of D-Day Dice which I received the other day. Oh yeah, and I ramble about the goal of gaming. Flash Point: Fire Rescue on BGG. Flash Point: 2nd Story on Kickstarter. D-Day Dice on BGG. The Battle of Red Cliffs on Kickstarter.
