Isabel Carlos (Coimbra,1962), é licenciada em Filosofia pela Universidade de Coimbra e mestre em Comunicação Social pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa com a tese «Performance ou a Arte num Lugar Incómodo» (1993). É crítica de arte desde 1991. Assessora para a área de exposições de Lisboa'94 – Capital Europeia da Cultura no âmbito da qual foi curadora das exposições colectivas “Depois de Amanhã” no Centro Cultural de Belém e “Do Sublime” no Museu do Chiado.Foi co-fundadora e subdirectora do Instituto de Arte Contemporânea, tutelado pelo Ministério da Cultura entre 1996 e 2001, onde entre outras tarefas foi responsável pela aquisição da colecção de arte contemporânea mostrada em 2000 no Centro Cultural de Belem na exposição “Initiare”.Foi membro dos júris da Bienal de Veneza em 2003, do Turner Prize em 2010, The Vincent Award em 2013, entre outros. Em 2004 foi directora artistica da Bienal de Sidney e curadora da exposição “On Reason and Emotion” que mostrou no MCA, na Art Gallery of New South Walles, no ArtSpace e no Royal Botanical Gardens. Em 2007 organizou para o Instituto Camões a exposição “Troca de Olhares” que foi mostrada em Maputo, Luanda e Mindelo. Entre 2009 e 2015 foi directora do CAM_Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisboa. Entre 2023 e 2024 foi administradora delegada deste museu assegurando a transição entre direcções. Em 2019 mostrou a colecção de José Lima, no Palácio de São Bento, Lisboa. Entre 2019 e 2022 integrou a comissão de aquisições de arte contemporânea da Camara Municipal de Lisboa. Em 2023 organizou “Hello! Amit Singh, a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra, discusses Hindutva, a political ideology encompassing the cultural justification of Hindu nationalism and the belief in establishing Hindu hegemony within India, as well as the dangers it poses to religious minorities today. Covering Narendra Modi's trajectory from Gujarat's Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014 to the Indian head of state, Singh explains how the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and other far-right Hindutva groups have created conflicts between Hindus and Muslims in order to destabilise communal balance, Singh describes how India's colonial past has been polarised by far-right Hindu nationalist groups who have aimed at Christian, Muslim and other Indian minority religious groups in order to create division within India on a social level, while Modi and other BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) cohorts have enacted draconian legislation which is aimed at maintaining the Hindutva majority status with the political and bureaucratic plateaus while conterminously creating conflicts throughout the country. Covering the recent history of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the only Indian territory with a Muslim majority, Singh contends that the application of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which divides Kashmir into regions while artificially populating the area with Hindus, is all part of a greater plan by the BJP to further sow sectarian divides politically which nourish the growing social divide between religious minorities and Hindus, while completely abandoning the forty-second Amendment of the Indian Constitution (1976) whereby the Preamble to the Constitution asserts that India is a secular nation. Boaventura de Sousa ​Santos, Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Coimbra, discusses his professional training from law, to the philosophy of law and then to sociology, covering his time studying in Cold War Berlin, then Yale in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and his eventual involvement with the World Social Forum and his efforts to densify class struggle. Bouncing off his recent article on cancel culture, de Sousa Santos analyses the “narcissism of belongingness” and how identity politics is sabotaging the left, where the connection to the political economy is lost to the language of inclusion. Analysing the weaponisation of victimhood and lies that are used to create narratives that uniquely rely upon the perverse assumption of female innocence and male guilt, de Sousa Santos observes the current social discourse and protofascistic regimes of our times, where the Inquisition of the Dark Ages has returned. Noting the rise of social fascism, which he believes may potentially slide into political fascism, de Sousa Santos argues that the proliferation of victimhood narratives creates the subject as a type of inert res extensa, in Cartesian terms, that simultaneously negates the Spinozean notion of human potentia, something he believes will ultimately kill the feminist movement. A agricultura regenerativa é um sistema onde a produção agrícola acontece ao mesmo tempo que propicia condições para a recuperação da natureza. O sistema é descrito como um processo que melhora a saúde do solo e restaura o ambiente degradado, o que acaba contribuindo para a produtividade. Conversamos com um dos mestres no assunto, o engenheiro agronómico João Coimbra que usa um modelo originário da Austrália.

En 1817, la aprobación de la reforma de Hacienda impulsada por Martín de Garay implantó un sistema tributario que tenía en la contribución general del reino su figura central. Un impuesto directo que gravaba esencialmente el ámbito rural y la renta agraria. Desde un punto de vista general, sus principales caracteres son bien conocidos, así como algunos de los obstáculos que afectaron a su desarrollo. Sin embargo, otros factores que contribuyen a explicar su evolución y su colapso final, abordables desde una perspectiva regional y local todavía poco desarrollada, han recibido menos atención. En este texto se trata de cubrir parte de esa laguna interpretativa a partir del uso de fuentes derivadas de la aplicación de la propia contribución en el noroeste español, concretamente en el área gallega. Su análisis revela importantes problemáticas con matices territoriales entre los que cabe destacar una serie de comportamientos sociales identificados como resistencia fiscal campesina. Unveiling the Challenges of Maternal Health for Black Women in Portugal.In this new episode of Narratives of Purpose's special series from the 2025 HIMSS European Health Conference, host Claire Murigande speaks with Carolina Coimbra, a doula and activist for pregnancy and childbirth rights.Carolina is also the co-founder of SaMaNe, an association which aims to address the disparities in maternal healthcare experienced by Black and Afro-descendant women in Portugal, particularly through rigorous data collection and community engagement initiatives. Carolina mentions her role as an advisor in the Portuguese Parliament, where her advocacy work has culminated in the approval of a groundbreaking national law, the first of its kind in Europe, that defines obstetric violence.
