“Try to evolve into innovative ideas. Farmers are very important, but you should try to turn their mindsets into business people...that's definitely what will change the landscape of the food industry and will bring it more innovation and more sustainability.”  - Joaquim Macedo de Sousa   Episode Description: The Habitat for Business Innovation in Strategic Sectors (HIESE) serves as an innovation space that promotes entrepreneurship in rural areas. Launched in 2016, this business incubation facility in Quinta Vale do Espinhal, Penela, Portugal has 15 offices that accommodate companies in the critical early stages of their business. HIESE offers various services including physical and virtual incubation and acceleration programs, internationalization, training, and business planning.     Business incubation is a process employed to help start-ups innovate and accelerate their growth. Learn more about this and other business development programs on this episode as Justine talks with Joaquim Macedo de Sousa, Executive Director of Rural Smart HIESE.  Joaquim shares the idea behind incubation and why it is especially needed in rural areas.  Justine and Joaquim also discuss how HIESE can help you turn your ideas into a successful business, how much it costs, how to apply (and get accepted) and more!  Entrepreneurs have a unique “DNA” that makes them distinct, and also capable of creating impact in a shorter period of time. The key is to continuously develop and make that impact sustainable. Failing is an expensive lesson, so before you launch, tune in and learn how you can turn hurdles into golden opportunities!  Connect with Joaquim Macedo de Sousa:  Born in 1978 in Braga, Joaquim lives in Coimbra, is married and has four children. Full Text of ReadingsFourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 101All podcast readings are produced by the USCCB and are from the Catholic Lectionary, based on the New American Bible and approved for use in the United States _______________________________________The Saint of the day is Saint Elizabeth of PortugalElizabeth is usually depicted in royal garb with a dove or an olive branch. At her birth in 1271, her father Pedro III, future king of Aragon, was reconciled with his father James, the reigning monarch. This proved to be a portent of things to come. Under the healthful influences surrounding her early years, she quickly learned self-discipline and acquired a taste for spirituality. Thus fortunately prepared, Elizabeth was able to meet the challenge when at the age of 12, she was given in marriage to Denis, king of Portugal. She was able to establish for herself a pattern of life conducive to growth in God's love, not merely through her exercises of piety, including daily Mass, but also through her exercise of charity, by which she was able to befriend and help pilgrims, strangers, the sick, the poor—in a word, all those whose need came to her notice. At the same time she remained devoted to her husband, whose infidelity to her was a scandal to the kingdom. Denis, too, was the object of many of her peace endeavors. Elizabeth long sought peace for him with God, and was finally rewarded when he gave up his life of sin. She repeatedly sought and effected peace between the king and their rebellious son Alfonso, who thought that he was passed over to favor the king's illegitimate children. She acted as peacemaker in the struggle between Ferdinand, king of Aragon, and his cousin James, who claimed the crown. And finally from Coimbra, where she had retired as a Franciscan tertiary to the monastery of the Poor Clares after the death of her husband, Elizabeth set out and was able to bring about a lasting peace between her son Alfonso, now king of Portugal, and his son-in-law, the king of Castile. Reflection The work of promoting peace is anything but a calm and quiet endeavor. It takes a clear mind, a steady spirit and a brave soul to intervene between people whose emotions are so aroused that they are ready to destroy one another. This is all the more true of a woman in the early 14th century. But Elizabeth had a deep and sincere love and sympathy for humankind, an almost total lack of concern for herself, and an abiding confidence in God. These were the tools of her success. Each week we sit down with a guest to discuss Mission and Evangelism in Scotland and beyond. Our guests this week are Steve and Anna Griffiths. Born in Mutare, Zimbabwe, Steve trained as a doctor. He met his English wife Anna in Harare (who came on holiday to Zim and never went home!) After learning Portuguese in Coimbra, Portugal, Steve & Anna served in northern Mozambique in medical and church work. They then joined OMF, learning the Khmer language and working in Cambodia where Steve was a technical advisor to the leprosy programme of the Cambodian Ministry of Health. Asked to move to OMF Headquarters in Singapore, Steve & Anna shared the role of Director for Personnel based in Singapore for the last twelve years. They have two children Joshua and Aimée, both in medical school at present. Steve and Anna moved to São Paulo in Brazil – and are busy getting the rust off their Portuguese. -- The Axe and the Tree: https://www.10ofthose.com/uk/authors/... -- #christian #church #mission #evangelism #podcast #scotland #christianity #freechurchofscotland #fcos #gospel -- Check out our site for more info: https://generation-mission.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GenerationMi... On today’s very special episode of Songmess we’re kickstarting our 10-episode Pride series with guest Thales Coimbra; a Brazilian lawyer entrenched in São Paulo’s LGBTQ+ community and working in HIV / AIDS advocacy. We’re diving into Brazilian queer history, paying tribute to musical legends and the new generation bearing the torch of revolution, touching on past and present political strife and delving into the meaning and need for Pride. This is a long one, filled with laughter and poignant conversations. The first Pride march was a riot, and it’s important to remember our history while learning about the battles our siblings in different corners of the world have fought along the way. This 10-part series is both an opportunity for you, the listener, to discover new music while remembering that queer and trans artists should be supported every day, every month. Not just in June!!! Happy Pride, and we hope you enjoy! LEARN MORE ************** To learn more about this topic, start your googling with these keywords: Amplitude - The distance between the crest and trough of a wave. Bathymetry - The measurement of depth of water in oceans, seas, or lakes. Nazaré Canyon - An undersea canyon just off the coast of Nazaré, Portugal, in the eastern North Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest submarine canyon in Europe, reaching depths of about 5,000 meters (16,000 ft) deep and a length of about 230 kilometers (140 mi). Plunging Breaker - Occurs when there are rapid depth changes. The crest of the wave becomes very steep, and the rear of the wave violently plunges over the front. Reef Break - A location where waves break over a reef, often amplifying them. Spilling Breaker - Occurs when the seafloor slopes gradually. As the wave becomes unstable, energy is dissipated by water spilling over the crest of the wave. Swell - a slow, regular movement of the sea in rolling waves that do not break. Wave period - The time between waves. Ouve aqui.
