Datshiane Navanayagam speaks to Angie Chioko and Nika Kokareva about clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance, in order to return safe land to their communities. At the end of 2024, The Landmine Monitor Report revealed that children suffer disproportionately from landmines across the world. The remnants of war remain in the ground for decades, claiming civilian lives, long after the fighting had ended.Angie Chioko is a Supervisor at the Mazowe Camp in Zimbabwe, working for The Halo Trust. Zimbabwe is one of the most heavily mined countries in the world. The minefields were laid in the 1970s during a civil war by the country's ruling army. In Zimbabwe today, the landmines cut off access to water supplies, pasture land, and cause children to take longer routes to school. Nika Kokareva is a Team Leader in the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine, working for Mines Advisory Group. The country has seen a rise in landmines and unexploded ordnance since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. —Here are 3 big things you need to know—   One — President-elect Trump is picking former Wisconsin Representative Sean Duffy for the role of transportation secretary.  Duffy served in the House from 2011 to 2019 and was a member of the Financial Services Committee.  He left the House in 2019 after one of his children had a heart condition, and currently hosts a show on Fox Business.   Two ---- A new state law is aiming to curb auto theft in Michigan.  Around the state, there were over 25-thousand vehicles stolen in 2023 and between 85-and-90-percent were stolen by thieves using Auto ProPad devices.  Those devices allow thieves to program a blank key to start a car. The new law took effect last month to make possessing a ProPad without a legitimate purpose punishable by five-years in prison, and ten-years if someone uses it to actually steal a vehicle.   And number three — Parts of Florida are expected to feel what's left of Tropical Storm Sara.  Remnants of Sara dissipated yesterday morning after bringing more than three-feet of rain to Honduras.  The National Hurricane Center says the storm could bring tropical moisture to the Sunshine State and the northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday.

Some histories are lost with time, but remnants of their existence remain. Off an unmarked trail within the park, sits an old abandoned cabin that in its hay day was a popular place for tourists to visit. It was once filled with people from around the world, coming to see Anna Wolfsdrom's famous Tea Room for themselves. Anna managed to open a hugely successful business in a time it was not common for women to do so, but she didn't stop there.
