earthy smell when rain falls on dry soil
POPULARITY
Petrichor is the name of the unmistakable earthy, musty scent with a hint of moss, that always comes with freshly fallen rain after a long dry spell.

Второй называется In Real Time и его обозревал в 2023 году. Jazz Messengers The Smile of the Snake - это классический трек в духе Jazz Messengers, в котором фортепианное соло с хитрыми переплетениями трубы напоминает творчество Miles Davis с Herbie Hancock.

On Episode 125 of the Guest Speaker Series, the multi-talented singer, producer, composer, and instrumentalist, Johan Lenox, returns for his third appearance. This time, we recorded the episode inside of Landsdowne Pub in Boston, ahead of his opening performance at House of Blues for 070 Shake's Petrichor tour. Johan catches us up with what he's been up to since his last appearance on the show, including the release of his second full-length studio album ‘I Guess We'll Find Out' which hit all DSP's back in March 2024. However, much of the material on the album is still deeply relevant today regarding the political and social climate, and even the impact of the recent LA fires, which Johan & Mike talk at length about. Johan also talks about his experience conducting an orchestra for A$AP Rocky at Rolling Loud in Thailand, having a heavy hand in production for 070 Shake's Petrichor, as well as the visual experience that was made into a ballet, and so much more. Special thanks to Mass Effect for helping us with production on this episode, and for a surprise segment!

Vahn Black is a vocalist based in Atlanta, and in this episode we focused on her project celebrating Gladys Bentley, including Vahn's fantastic album Petrichor. Born and raised in Detroit, Vahn grew up in a melting pot of music and this aided her in cultivating her soul-charged, jazz infused sound, marrying her reverence for vocalists like Sarah Vaughn with her love of producers like J Dilla. We talked about her musical education, her career path, her research into Black history and culture, her joy of collecting vinyl and some of her other creative outlets. It was interesting to hear about her contrasting experiences with work, life and music in Detroit, New York and Atlanta. As a composer Black has lent her artistry to various art mediums from short films to interactive performance art. In 2023 she was selected to perform at NPR's Tiny Desk on the Road Tour stop in Atlanta, and for those listeners who are fans of Vahn Black and those who are discovering her, I hope you'll enjoy this conversation which is punctuated with her music. In the world of big wall climbing and wingsuit BASE jumping, @chris_mcnamara was a leader and innovator, claiming the first wingsuit BASE jump of the Grand Canyon (where he almost died twice in the same jump) and one of the youngest people to ever climb the West Face of El Capitan. As the founder of Supertopo, which evolved into GearLab, McNamara's interests also evolved beyond climbing and the dangers of BASE jumping. It was when he moved to Lake Tahoe over a decade ago and discovered trails, mountain biking and specifically TAMBA, where he found his new passion. Always the dopamine-fueled thinker and dreamer obsessed with first ascents, “BushwhackNamara” immediately started asking “what if”? What if there was a mountain bike singletrack around Lake Tahoe? What if there was a trail from Susanville to Mammoth called Sierra Camino? What if there was a mountain bike trail from Canada to Cabo called Orogenesis? The dopamine was flooding his brain with possibilities, and a decade later, Chris and his wife Tor have been instrumental in funding the trails renaissance happening in Lake Tahoe.2:00 – Recording in the Toyota Sunrader RV up on top of Monitor Pass off Highway 89.3:30 – Introducing Chris McNamara, legendary big wall climber and early wing suit BASE jump pioneer and now a big trails advocate.7:00 – Chris and his obsession with long distance trails, and the Orogenesis Trail, a trail from Canada to Cabo, as well as the Sierra Camino.10:00 – The dopamine fix associated with thinking and ideas. Imagine if every kid had the opportunity to act on their dreams. A world where someone saw them, believed in them, and gave them the skills to go after those dreams. In this podcast episode, Alexandra chats with Paul Dreisbach from Petrichor, an organization in Cameroon building capacity, framework, and models of sustainable growth through football. Paul has worked with partners like LaLiga, Liverpool FC, SoCal, Portland Timbers, Nike, and Adidas through his consultancy work mainly in the space where sport, purpose & profitability meet. Tune in and get insights on the world of sports, how it provides opportunities for kids from all different backgrounds, and the difficulties of getting the support, funding, and sponsorship for women's football. We also talk about the challenges of recognizing privilege and how to help solve problems that you historically were part of creating. As well as how perhaps we can't change our biases but what we can do is to try and not act from them. Finally, we discuss how society plays such a big role in what we deem risky and not. Many of us dive headfirst into marriage (said to have a 50% success rate) but spend our entire life building up the courage to make small steps towards a dream like changing careers or building a business. Kind of crazy!Find out more about Paul Dreisbach here: Linkedin and on his websiteFind out more about Petrichor here Connect with the Circular Entrepreneurs here: InstagramIf you want to work with Alexandra, you can find 1:1 coaching packages hereIn order to keep growing this beautiful community I would love for you to follow, share, rate & review the podcast.XxAlexandra Hosted on Acast. TEDLASSO might've been shutout at the Golden Globes, but he won big by appearing in today's NYTimes crossword, thanks to Nate Cardin, constructor and (by his own account) TEDLASSO fan. ‘From virtually any soil a high-quality wine can be made. The use of geology to promote the quality of a wine is thus merely a marketing tool.' This is an episode that may ruffle a few feathers. We speak to two wine-loving geologists, Professor Alex Maltman and Dr Geert-Jan Vis (the latter responsible for the quote above). Both of them raise serious questions about the line the wine world often endorses about how geology (think: limestone, schist, granite) influences wine.Vis calls the notion that geology and soil influence wine style, ‘romantic b*llocks'. Maltman says it's, ‘over-hyped' and writes, ‘simply saying a wine comes from a particular rock doesn't convey anything about what I might expect from a wine.' And yet we regularly see wine literature talking about limestone or granite, Kimmeridgian or Jurassic (and so on) and linking this explicitly to wine quality and style. And this isn't even to get started on the topic of ‘minerality' in wine…So what gives? What's really going on here? To what extent can geology and soil be seen to impact the vine and wine? Or, to flip it round, to what extent do experts think that the role of geology and soil is over-rated and misunderstood when it comes to wine? It's important to say we're not being deliberately controversial or trying to undermine the concept of terroir (the notion that specific places produce wines with specific characteristics). What we're doing is asking questions and challenging a set of prevalent assumptions which we feel is…well…questionable. We're aware this episode might provoke debate so please feel free to get in touch. Send us a voice message via Speakpipe or you can find more details to get in touch on our website. All details from this episode are on our website: Show notes for Wine Blast S4 E20: No Schist Sherlock - How Wine Gets Rocks Wrong. This is the first in a loosely-connected series of programmes in which we'll tackle tricky or controversial issues in wine, from minerality to microbiology and yeasts. All with the aim of provoking informed debate, challenging questionable opinions and seeking clarity above all. Thanks for tuning in. Here's to the joy of wine - cheers to you!Ps and if you don't know what petrichor is – we've got the answer…
