». Evidemment. "Black Butterflies" The Vancouver-raised Rebecca Foon grew up with parents who were artists and activists, so it's no surprise that she became an artist and an activist herself. Let's start with the artist part. The Juno-award winning cellist, singer and composer Rebecca Foon has been in so many bands it's hard to keep track, so this is a partial list. No stranger to the post-rock and experimental world, Foon has been in Set Fire To Flames, Fifths Of Seven, A Silver Mt. Zion and the Gorecki Symphony Of Sorrow with Colin Stetson. She's also recorded under the Saltland moniker and she's the co-founder of the modern chamber ensemble Esmerine, whose 2013 Dalmak record won them a Juno. Under her own name Foon put out Waxing Moon in 2020 and the follow-up is the rather stunning new album Black Butterflies. Filled with sonorous vocals, inventive percussion and wondrous, sneaky rhythms, the reflective trip-hop groove of Black Butterflies summons the work of everyone from Massive Attack to Portishead. Redolent with rhythmic precision, musical dexterity and the kind of sonic architecture that builds worlds in the sky, Black Butterflies is a dose of real magic. Foon has collaborated with a list of luminaries like Laurie Anderson, Grant Hart, Nick Cave, British Sea Power, and Patrick Watson. As an activist and environmentalist, she's a member of the sustainability and climate change consulting cooperative Sustainability Solutions Group. A creative force powered by grace, Rebecca Foon is a real treasure. www.rebeccafoon.com www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com Stereo Embers: IG + BLUESKY: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Playlist:The Smiths - Heaven Knows I’m Miserable NowTurnstile - I CAREMk. gee - AlesisThe Strokes - The Adults Are TalkingROSALÍA - A PaléYves Tumor - Gospel For A New CenturyKing Krule - CellularNudozurdo - Ha Sido DivertidoOrville Peck - Buffalo RunBlack Country, New Road - Chaos Space MarineBig Thief - CertaintyWhitney - No WomanGeorgia - 24 HoursJessie Ware - What’s Your PleasureArca - MequetrefeCharli xcx - party 4 uDepresión Sonora - La Ley del PobreDepresión Sonora, Bb trickz - Todo Da IgualAlice Wonder - iii. Canadian singer and composer Patrick Watson has been making records for almost a quarter century – with a cinematic blend of indie rock, cabaret pop, and chamber music that has made him a favorite of film directors and music supervisors. His latest record, Uh Oh, is the result of a pretty big uh-oh moment for a singer: Watson lost his voice. He thought it was broken forever, and wrote a collection of songs and collaborations with other people - voices that he wanted to hear: among them the artists Charlotte Cardin, La Force, Martha Wainwright, and Klô Pelgag. Luckily, Watson managed to get his voice back; he performs in-studio with his frequent collaborator, the singer/songwriter La Force.Set List: 1. Lonely Nights 2. Peter and the Wolf 3. House on Fire

What happens when you build a career being a singer-songwriter and then you permanently lose your voice? That's what happened to acclaimed musician Patrick Watson, whose life was completely upended for months due to that traumatic surprise. Without being able to sing his own music, Patrick turned his attention to writing and composing music for other people to sing. He thought he'd never sing again, but after saving his voice using a hyperbaric chamber, he decided to make a record with a variety of singers to help him out. Patrick joins Tom Power to tell the story of how losing his voice became a catalyst for his new album, “Uh Oh,”

???? He joins Tom to talk about his work on “So Long, Marianne” and his relationship with the late Canadian icon.
