Babylonian Goal Year Periods in Astrology

Astrologers Chris Brennan and Patrick Watson explore the ancient timing technique known as Babylonian goal year periods, which can be used to identify repeating transits and events over very long spans of time. Recovered from the astronomical diaries of Mesopotamian sky watchers in the first millennium BCE, these periods demonstrate how the visible planets repeat their exact zodiacal placements and phase relationships with the Sun over predictable intervals. Our discussion breaks down the math behind these synodic cycles and highlights how repetition is the ultimate key to prediction in both mundane and natal astrology. By examining compelling historical case studies for each of the traditional planets, from the 1929 Wall Street Crash to major breakthroughs in modern communication technology, we show how tracking these ancient cycles allows astrologers to identify profound historical recurrences and project future events with stunning accuracy. As AI becomes more embedded into business technology, that natural interface is becoming increasingly important — not just for human-to-human conversations, but for the way people interact with machines, applications and automated services. In this episode of Cavell Cloud Conversations, Patrick Watson is joined by Michal Podoski, VP of Product Management at Dstny, to explore how voice is evolving beyond basic calling and becoming a strategic platform for service providers. The discussion looks at the challenges communication providers face when bringing next-generation voice services to market, including integration complexity, speed of delivery and the need to package capabilities in a way that customers can understand and buy. Patrick and Michal also discuss how voice can help service providers move from treating AI as a feature to building services that can be monetised, bundled and scaled. The episode also considers where voice is heading next, including the role of mobile, the growing convergence of AI and automation, and how providers can prepare for a future where voice becomes one of the primary interfaces between people, machines and business systems.

"Black Butterflies" The Vancouver-raised Rebecca Foon grew up with parents who were artists and activists, so it's no surprise that she became an artist and an activist herself. Let's start with the artist part. The Juno-award winning cellist, singer and composer Rebecca Foon has been in so many bands it's hard to keep track, so this is a partial list. No stranger to the post-rock and experimental world, Foon has been in Set Fire To Flames, Fifths Of Seven, A Silver Mt. Zion and the Gorecki Symphony Of Sorrow with Colin Stetson. She's also recorded under the Saltland moniker and she's the co-founder of the modern chamber ensemble Esmerine, whose 2013 Dalmak record won them a Juno. Under her own name Foon put out Waxing Moon in 2020 and the follow-up is the rather stunning new album Black Butterflies. Filled with sonorous vocals, inventive percussion and wondrous, sneaky rhythms, the reflective trip-hop groove of Black Butterflies summons the work of everyone from Massive Attack to Portishead. Redolent with rhythmic precision, musical dexterity and the kind of sonic architecture that builds worlds in the sky, Black Butterflies is a dose of real magic. Foon has collaborated with a list of luminaries like Laurie Anderson, Grant Hart, Nick Cave, British Sea Power, and Patrick Watson. As an activist and environmentalist, she's a member of the sustainability and climate change consulting cooperative Sustainability Solutions Group. A creative force powered by grace, Rebecca Foon is a real treasure. www.rebeccafoon.com www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com Stereo Embers: IG + BLUESKY: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

This time we got the chance to speak with Oscar-nominated filmmakers Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski (Madame Tutli-Putli), directors of the wonderful stop-motion short The Girl Who Cried Pearls. As well as the new film, we discussed their career paths, their unconventional production method and "whatever you do, don't teach them anything!"Thanks to Nadine from The National Film Board of Canada for her help setting this interview up. Presented and produced by Chris Perkins.Show notesIn Montreal, at the dawn of the 20th century, a poor boy falls in love with a girl whose sorrow turns into pearls. He sells them to a ruthless pawnbroker, who hungers for more. Tempted by greed, the boy must choose between love and fortune. The choice could damn his soul. From the Oscar-nominated team of Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski (Madame Tutli-Putli), this meticulously crafted film is a testament to the magic of stop-motion animation. With handmade puppets, mesmerizing narration by Colm Feore and a haunting score by Patrick Watson, The Girl Who Cried Pearls is a timeless parable of desire, deception and the price of innocence.

Canadian singer and composer Patrick Watson has been making records for almost a quarter century – with a cinematic blend of indie rock, cabaret pop, and chamber music that has made him a favorite of film directors and music supervisors.  His latest record, Uh Oh, is the result of a pretty big uh-oh moment for a singer: Watson lost his voice. He thought it was broken forever, and wrote a collection of songs and collaborations with other people - voices that he wanted to hear: among them the artists Charlotte Cardin, La Force, Martha Wainwright, and Klô Pelgag. Luckily, Watson managed to get his voice back;  he performs in-studio with his frequent collaborator, the singer/songwriter La Force.Set List: 1. Lonely Nights 2. Peter and the Wolf 3. House on Fire
