It’s hard to resist a good rom-com. Who cares if the tropes are things we’ve seen a hundred times before. The heroes have the same stereotypical jobs. Everyone is very pretty. Someone’s fiancee gets dumped in favor of the person they met two day ago...wait. Maybe not all the tropes are so great after all. No one ever accused movies and TV of being real life - but that doesn’t mean we didn’t believe way too many of the things we were seeing. We thought high school was the be-all-end-all and that you could rent a fabulous apartment on a part-time salary. We thought court cases would be interesting and that forensic labs did fast turnarounds. We actually believed the science in Jurassic Park.
